His only goal was survival until he met her...

With nothing to lose, former cop Damon Winter agrees to an undercover op, infiltrating a cult in the dangerous post-Scorpius world. After one look at his new partner, he knows she belongs far away from not only the cult, but from him. She's sweet and kind and has no business being in peril, but she's determined to help. Suddenly, the part he's playing as her man explodes into a passion neither of them had expected.

She hadn't purposefully faced risk until she met him...

April Snyder has survived loss, pain, and uncertainty. Now she's ready to live again. There's nothing left but to make a difference for others, so why not go undercover in the cult? Now all she has to do is keep it professional and ignore her handsome, deadly, overbearing partner, who's too sexy for her peace of mind. Intrigue, risk, and danger make for an irresistible temptation--until enemies close in, threatening everyone they've sworn to protect.

Another great read by Rebecca. This series captures you right away, you don't have to wait to get into the books at all. The hardest part is waiting for the next one to come out!

In the Fifth installment of The Scorpius Syndrome we get Damon and April's story. It's time for us to find out what's going on with the Pure church and these two are the key to exposing them. Neither one have been infected by the Scorpius bacteria and are being recruited by Pastor King. Jax sees this as their chance to make sure the women and children are not being held against their will. It is up to April and Damon to pretend to be interested in joining their church so they can get inside and make sure everything is on the up and up. This also gives Damon the chance to get closer to April. He's been insnared by her from the first time he laid eyes on her. This series is filled with so many characters, more than one storyline and a whole lot of action. Which is why I would suggest starting the series from the beginning. In just this installment we have The Pure church, the struggle of the Mercs and the Vanguards trying to integrate into one group, the President and his Elite Force racing to take over the Reno Bunker and the Twenty gang constantly attacking the borders of Vanguard. On top of everything going on, Rebecca Zanetti brings me the alpha heroes I absolutely love to read about. Her men are pure Alpha. They are dominant, protective and will do anything for the women in their life. Her women are strong, independent and fighters all on their own. Together, these couples are explosive. This series has sunk its hooks into me and I love discovering what is about to happen with each new book. Marcus and Dr. Penelope is next and I can't be more excited for their story. ARC provided by the author.

When tomorrow is an uncertainty, live for today… This is the fifth book in the Scorpius Syndrome series that can be read as a stand-alone, the author provides relevant information where needed, but the read is enhanced if you’ve followed the series. Vanguard and the Mercenaries have joined forces, the transition was not expected to be smooth. One governmental scientific bunker was found with leads to others. The psychotic president is still out there and causing problems for the group. The Pure is still an issue though its former leader was eradicated. Before the apocalypse Damon Winter was a cop of SWAT caliber, he’s a protector by nature. Now the lone survivor of his family he fights for survival on a daily basis. Scorpius didn’t touch him, he remains uninfected, which makes him a good candidate to infiltrate the Pure along with April Snyder, a woman who appears fragile as she has lost the last thing that mattered to her but she’s stronger than she realizes, she found the strength to continue on and now cares for the orphans of all ages. Both being untainted they take on the mission to find out exactly what’s going on inside the cult-like group within Vanguard territory. Doing so they will be pretending they are together but it’s hard to keep things professional when the attraction between them is not imagined. Damon doesn’t have any qualms really pursuing April but she knows the pains of grief and getting involved with someone who might not return from a mission would be additional devastation that she might not come back from. April has to come to terms with living for the moment, letting the future, if there is one, take care of itself. Damon already learned this and knows to enjoy each today. Can he convince April to take a chance? I like returning to this post-apocalyptic world where survivors learn their mettle and work hard for an uncertain future. When you strip away the trappings of civilization it truly is survival of the fittest, and the smartest, and most of all those who can do what needs to be done no matter the emotional cost. Yet even with all that was lost, the political machine tries to regain power but Scorpius turned some survivors into ingenious psychopaths and such men strive for total control of what remains. Can Vanguard and the Mercenaries foil their deadly agenda? Can they become a cohesive unit? This installment is filled with a riveting action and suspense storyline, strong main characters who are human beings with an innate sense of ethos, the kind that become natural heroes and you can’t help but get invested in their outcome. The romance was realistic for the situation and tangible. There’s chaos in the world but within that chaos, there is a measure of order as this group of people seeks to survive. What happens next is the question. Will humanity continue long-term in some recognizable fashion or will Scorpius eventually be its total downfall. This reader looks forward to the next book.

This series is the most believable apocalypse scenario - I love it, and this book definitely just continued the goodness! Can't wait for Marcus and Penny's story. And really hope the Vanguard Mercenaries cross paths with the Brigade soon. These books can't come fast enough!

Rebecca Zanetti has done it again with a wonderful story between April and Damon. She did not disappoint with the characterization of these two totally unique people. April has suffered greatly because of Scorpius (and they all have), but she is especially shattered after burying her young daughter in an earlier book. Now finding her strength and determination grow with the help of Damon and the support of the Mercs/Vanguard coalition is almost as engaging as the flare of heat she shares with Damon. I love this series and enjoyed the return to the Scorpius Syndrome world. They are not a perfect group, but their flaws make them all the more real and interesting. There is so much happening with the reconstruction after Scorpius. It's a hard world, but with strong people and a good plan Zanetti makes me eager to read the next in the series. Don't pass this one up! I was given an ARC for an honest review.

"Now that's EXPLOSIVE!!!" Wow I so love this series more and more with each book I read. Rebecca Zanetti has out done herself once again. How she keeps it all straight in her head and come up with new ways to blow her readers minds is amazing. Winter Igniting is the 5th book in her post-apocalyptic series and it's still going strong. The book is filled with explosive turns left and right, romance, drama, action, I so didn't see that coming moments and a highly addictive love story that you can't help but fall in love with. This book is about two groups the Vanguard's and the Merc's emerging into one group to built a stronger force against the evil of today's world. Things don't always go as well as planed especially when the teams have learned to fight against each other in the past. But Jax the leader of Vanguard and Greyson the leader of the Merc's aren't letting that get in their way. Everybody will live together as one unit or get the hell out. Damon Winter, second in command of the Merc's and April Snyder a Vanguard survivor of the Scorpius virus, who doesn't believe she has anything worth living for, have more important things to worry about. They are going undercover to find out what's happening inside the vanguard compound, where a group who call themselves the Pure have taken over part of the Vanguard territory. The Pure is made up of mostly pregnant woman and children who haven't become victims of the Scorpius plaque. Since neither Damon or April have been contaminated making them 'pure' they are the perfect couple for the job. Jax wants them to go in find out what's happening behind the walls and get out. He wants to demolish the Pure, anyway he has to, once and for all and move on. He doesn't believe everything inside the walls are as 'pure' as the good pastor says they are but more of a cult then anything else and that the people inside are being forced to remain there. What he finds inside the walls was more then even he expected. "April" he said drowsily, "I swear to God, if you dump me again tomorrow after you've come to your senses, I really will tan your hide'"

This book is filled with sexual tension that will have you fanning yourself. The suspense is off the chart and the twist and turns are amazing. Damon Winter, LA cop before Scorpius hit and kill most of the population. He’s a natural born protector always the first to bust down a door and put himself in the line of fire to protect. He’s new to Vanguard territory and he agrees to go on a undercover operation and his partner is the very beautiful and seemingly delicate April Snyder. April has lost everything she held dear and sometimes doesn’t know how she’ll go on. Damon sparks something deep within her that she really doesn’t know how to handle or even if she could. Damon is sexy as hell, bigger then life and such a alpha male protector and he’s way out of her league. They are always bumping heads, he’s constantly telling her what she can’t do and if he puts her over his shoulder one more time she’s going to kill him. Damon was never looking for a relationship and April doesn’t think she’d survive more loss. April has built such a wall around her heart even Damon might not be able to bust through that door. Can her convince her that if nothing else Scorpius has shown them life is not a promise and to live for the moment? This is such a awesome series. In each book there is such intense emotions, nail biting suspense and action that will make your heart stop and have you holding your breath praying that all will be good. This series should definitely be read in order

Pre Scorpius Damon Winter was an LA cop. Now he serves as second in command of the Mercs, the calming force to their leader Greyson Storm. He's got his hands full trying to integrate the Mercs and the Vanguard soldiers and strategizing the take over of another bunker. To top it all off he's running an undercover to discover just what the Pure group is really up to. His partner is shy, quiet April Snyder. She's lost her husband and her daughter to Scorpius and is just going through the motions of living, until she meets Damon. Together they need to discover what the Pure is hiding and who is actively attacking Vanguard from the inside. This is the fifth installment in the Scorpius Syndrome series and each book is better than the last. I thought Raze Shadow was awesome, but Damon is my new favorite alpha in the series. Ms Zanetti has outdone herself with this new chapter. It's a wild thrill ride from start to finish. I had to stop and catch my breath by the end of the story. I'll be on pins and needles waiting for the next chapter..

This is book 5 in the Scorpius Syndrome series. I highly recommend that you read the books before this one so that you understand exactly what is happening in this one. This book builds on the main story line from the beginning. This one is about Damon Winter and April Snyder. Damon is the second in command of the Mercs. He is also best friends with Grey, the main character of the last full book (not the novella that was published in between that one and this one). April is in charge of the kids in Vanguard. She has lost her whole family since Scorpius has taken over and she doesn't feel like she has anything else to lose. They are both sent in undercover to the Pure church to see if the people that are there are truly there willingly or if they are being forced to stay. To the people of Vanguard, it feels like a cult has begun in their midst. Little does April or Damon realize that with this throwing them together, their lives will change even more than they already have. I absolutely loved this book!! We have seen April in the previous books and I know I was hoping that somehow something good would happen to turn her life around for the better. I just never expected to love Damon as much as I did and to see how much he truly loves her and will do what he has to to make her not only happy but as safe as possible. They are perfect together. Not only do they push each other to be better people but they truly make each other happy. Even with as bad as things can get. They had that perfect chemistry, and it was HOT!! This was a great read! Not only was their story great to read but the main story ARC keeps getting pushed further and further and I love it!! I can't wait for Marcus's story next!!

4.5 stars-WINTER IGNITING is the fifth full-length instalment in Rebecca Zanetti’s adult SCORPIUS SYNDROME cross genre Sci-Fi/ UF/Dystopian series focusing on a biological pandemic sweeping the planet that has already killed 99% of the world’s population. This is former cop and SWAT team member Damon Winter, and April Snyder’s story line. For more background information and some history, there is a prequel novella-SCORPIUS RISING-which can be found in the ON THE HUNT anthology (August 2015), and the author’s new novella companion series The Brigade. SOME BACKGROUND: Some of those infected with the biological virus have survived to become something known as a Ripper, but there are two types of Rippers inhabiting the world-one is a zombie like creature who feasts on the living; the other is a survivor whose brain has been altered resulting in a stronger, more powerful enhanced human being sometimes bordering on the sociopathic ideology with delusions of grandeur, obsession and hate. If you are a fan of the series The Walking Dead (or Mad Max), you will see many similarities in the story line premise including the search for food and supplies, attacks of the ‘undead’, and various groups of survivors vying for power and control. Told from several third person perspectives including Damon and April WINTER IGNITING follows several factions of survivors now living in the Vanguard Compound including the arrival of the Mercs (mercenaries), and those not affected by the virus who call themselves the Pure; and the ongoing war for survival against the self-proclaimed president of the United States Bret Atherton, and his Elite Force of soldiers. Damon Winter former SWAT team member in the ‘before’ has been tasked to go undercover with one of the other women who has not been affected by the virus, a woman who has lost much more than most. Enter April Snyder, the woman with whom Damon will fall in love but not before battling for his own life, and the life of his friend, as the Mercs and the soldiers from Vanguard stumble upon more trouble as they search for information and supplies at one of the hidden Bunkers. What ensues is the acrimonious relationship between Damon and April, and the potential fall-out when a suspected traitor begins to take down the compound one explosion at a time. April Snyder has no plans to fall in love but pretending to be in a relationship with Damon Winter has our heroine conflicted about her feelings and emotions as it pertains to the man in question. Damon is an over protective, alpha male who isn’t willing to risk April’s life including the possibility that the Pure are hoping to entice our heroine to the other side. The relationship between April and Damon begins as an undercover assignment wherein our couple must gather as much information at the secret society known as the Pure. . The $ex scenes are intimate and intense; Damon keeps threatening to spank April for defying his orders, and setting out on her own. WINTER IGNITING is a fast paced, energetic, and suspenseful story line with spirited and courageous characters; a complex and fascinating look at a post-apocalyptic future where the survivors are at war with themselves. The premise is intriguing and electrifying; the characters are playful, captivating, inspiring and tragic; the romance is seductive and emotional. Rebecca Zanetti’s SCORPIUS SYNDROME is a thrilling and exciting series you do not want to miss.

I was given an ARC in exchange for my honest review. April Snyder has lost everything, her husband, daughter and all her friends to Scorpius Syndrome. Now she has a mission to do. Acquire information on the group The Pure . Damon Winter is an ex-cop and a member of the Mercenaries. Jax Mercury has them to get as much information as they can. This book has it all right from the start. Explosions, action and romance. Rebecca Zanetti has a true winner in this book. A huge must read. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Another exciting chapter in the Scorpius world! April grows so much in this story due in great part to Damon Winter. I love Rebecca's engaging ability to write - the details allow your imagination to create an internal tapestry to "view" the story. The action, intrigue, romance, and human vulnerability laced through this series makes it almost impossible to put down. I haven't managed to read all of this series yet, but I have read several. They tie together to make an engaging world that draws you in, but each story can be read as a stand-alone story if desired. **I received a complimentary copy of this ebook in exchange for an honest review.**

OH WOWOWOWOWOWOW! I am in total if he was real I would snatch him up as mine LOVE with Damon Winter! I freaking fell head over heels for him from the moment he has come into the picture in Storm Gathering. He is loyal, sweet, caring, protective but he has a inner caveman that I found attractive as can be! He had NO problem laying down the law with April when it came to safety. And the way he took control and action is so incredibly swoon worthy I swore my heart skipped more than one beat! And heroine deserved such care and protection and love like she did. But she has an inner strength that is truly undeniable. I loved both her and Damon to PIECES! Winter Igniting is another amazing heart stopping, intense novel in Rebecca Zanetti's Scorpius Syndrome series that just continued to blow me away! Every time I think things will simmer down, things just continue to rise in action, suspense, and sizzling RED HOT romance. I am HIGHLY addicted to this series. I didn't think this book could top Mercury Striking but HOT DAMN it went above and beyond what I imagined Damon and April's story could be! Winter Igniting gets a INTENSELY SCORCHING FIVE SHOOTING STARS!
