In a quiet university town, amid the crumbling ruins of a mansion, ten aspiring writers devise a most unusual experiment. . .an experiment that goes chillingly, horrifyingly wrong. . .

It begins when two of the wannabe authors challenge each other to the ultimate test of inspiration. They're Eve and Angela. They're both devastatingly beautiful. . .and devastatingly competitive.

Now, a violent storm has plunged the house into darkness. The doors are locked. The phones are dead.

And one writer's imagination is about to run wild. . .

Semyon Taruskin is a ladies man, a charmer and a lover with a dangerous undertone that rings him with an attraction for a lot of women. He is surprised when he finds himself wanting more than a laison with Angelica Harrow. She is running from slavery, in London, from being sold by her brother. There's not a great sense of place with this one or time but it kept me reading. The characters did spark and the sex was fun, but they're nothing major.

I really like the Semyon, but Angelica for her education, is as smart as bag of rocks. Even after she knows Semyon and his kinsmen have preternatural powers; she decides to leave the Pack house. Semyon had done everything in his power to protect her, but Angelica leaving the mews is HER fault that Hinch finds her.

Angelica Harrow feels fortunate to have escaped from her odious stepbrother Victor Broadnax. In London she obtains work as a "coat check" girl at a ball. Russian werewolf Semyon Taruskin, renowned for his way with the ladies, is attracted to her. However, before he can do anything about his regard, she vanishes. Semyon knows something is not quite right even with Angelica's vanishing act. He begins a search for her, but had not expected a fight to the death with a more powerful supernatural being over who claims Angelica. His advantage is love enhances his prowess, but he failed as the evil St. Sin forces him to act wickedly at a sex club in front of a malevolent crowd. The latest Pack of St. James paranormal Regency romantic suspense (see WILD and WANTON) is an action-packed thriller that is even darker than the previous entries as the underbelly of London's seediest is exposed. The story line is fast-paced but owned by the cast as, the werewolf, the lady in trouble and the vile villains make Noelle Mack's portrayal of early nineteenth century London vivid but gloomy.
