While vocalist/pianist Krall sometimes takes it on the chin for being too understated, I'll take her whisper over the blare of most big-belting divas any day. When I Look In Your Eyes somehow manages a stark lushness even when thickened by arranger Johnny Mande's pasteled strings. Krall's delivery has become quite authoritative of late. While the minimalism of her vocal lines and trio music may exude polish, her emotional commitment can always be felt bubbling just below the surface. There's obviously much more than mood at work in her reading of the title cut, a ballad whose depth is heightened by the song's lovely voice, guitar, and muted strings arrangement.Similarly, the lithe bossa of "Let's Face the Music and Dance" almost equals the cool-headed commitment of the style's Brazilian masters. And anyone who thinks the singer's not in touch with her suggestive side needs to bask in the eloquent lust of Gershwin's "Do It Again." For an extended moment, Krall squelches all charges of prudishness with a mere purr of sensuality.

This is a wonderful album to put you in a calm, joyful mood. Diana sings effortlessly but with great emotion. I find that this serves as both good background music or something to turn up and sing along. My roomate ran right out and bought herself a copy once she listened to mine.

Krall has become one of my favorite jazz performers with her light, classy style that is relaxing and romantic. Her recordings are as good as her live performances. I have been lucky enough to hear her live with the Hampton Big Band and it was an awesome music experience. Krall is someone who has it all when I look for an artist to respect and seek after.

Diana Krall is an elegant and seductive vocalist. This was my first Krall CD which has inspired me to buy more. I first heard her on A Prairie Home Companion where she was a favorite of Garrison Keilor's. When she sings "I've Got You Under My Skin" she gets under yours with her emphatic but not insistent stylings. And "Let's Face the Music and Dance" is the best invitation you'll ever get!

The title track fills my home as I write. Understated, simple elegance, no-where-to-hide-if you ain't got-it arrangements. Lord, I love this CD.

Russell Malone's guitar work behind Ms. Krall is superb as always, but what makes this CD (and even more so the SACD) worthwhile is the sound quality -- it's exceptionally well recorded. Unfortunately Ms. Krall is only adequate as a pop singer and painfully limited when she tries to be a jazz singer, offering up a handful of vocal gimmicks in place of genuine improvisational skills. Heard alongside legitimate jazz vocalists, such as on Ray Brown's "Singers" album, her limitations nearly embarass her. But oh the sound of this recording -- very impressive. The piano really sounds like a piano, a feat few recordings pull off.

It has been written that Barbra Streisand could sing the telephone book and make it sound wonderful. Diana Krall's voice accompanies her music as though the two were one. Miraculous is the word that comes to mind hearing this cd. Now that I'm attuned to her music, I often hear it in the background of new movies. I initially bought it for Let's Change Partners and Dance, but enjoy all the music, including the lively Popsicle Toes, which has become my fave.

Ms. Krall uses all of her senses on this cd. ''Do it again'' keeps me up at night. The pauses she creates make you want more. Her voice and arrangements are superb and she uses her soul in every cut. ''I can't give you anything but love'' has such a great boppin' beat I cannot get enough of it. I credit her with bringing to life beautiful standard songs so that a new generation may appreciate this great music.

I had not heard of Diana Krall until a friend of mine came back from Canada and told me he performed with her. So, as I am always looking for that new artist, I purchased this album. Diana's style is so individual. She is able to combine classic and modern jazz styles and present them for us to listen to in a highly individual way. The title track, ''When I Look Into Your Eyes'' is a wonderful example of a modern ballad and Diana treats it with subtlties only found in great performers. The whole album for me demonstrates her versitality as a vocalist and pianist and has pride of place in vocal jazz collection along with Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn and Australian singer Emma Pask. I love it!

I just recieved my first CD by this wonderful musician and true artist. She has the voice quality of Julie London who I adored for many years. The supporting artists are truly great jazz musicians as well. The combination makes for aboslutley great listening.

Every time I've played this CD in the store where I work, people always ask who the artist is. The selection of songs is great, especially ''I Can't Give You Anything But Love,'' & ''East of the Sun,'' and Krall's voice is very pleasing to the ear.

'why should i care' is a lost song on the listing of the 'when i look in your eyes' cd. is this on purpose? or as a surprise to those of us who are 'diana krazed'? it's tear taking. everything on this cd make the listener mesmorized. the 1928 song 'garden in the rain' from 'love sense' is a long lost goodie. in fact, all of the songs performed by diana are excellent. i encourage everyone to buy all of them.

I first saw Ms. Krall at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, last June of 1999. I was really taken by her coolness, considering the heat wave and the flying insects, she and her band had to endure. She gave an excellent performance under these extreme circumstances. Her rappore with the audience was sincere and intimate. I picked up 'When I Look Into Your Eyes' and I have not stopped playing it in my car since. The first song relaxes me, like magic and I feel like enroute to special place. Track two, Devil May Care, puts a smile on my face, its like there no stopping me. Track five, the Cole Porter standard, I've Got You Under My Skin, puts me in a romantic and sentimental mood. This in essence summarizes my feeling for this entire CD. I have not gotten tired of her yet and plan to buy more of her work.

When I first saw Diane on the Rosie show I couldn't wait to get the CD. I loved it so much I sent one to my mother for a Mother's Day gift as she loves jazz.

This album is fabulous! After a hard day at work,my husband and I look into each other's eyes and ''Krall'' into bed and relax with some good books and her beautiful voice and music in the backround. Our 20 year old son got us started on listening to her and her Quartet!! Can't wait for her next release!!!!

This is one of my favorite CD's. I went to Geneva last year and she seemed popular there. When I came back to the states I bought her cd without knowing anythin about it, and when I first heard it, it was like WOW! The catchy, jazzy tunes reminds me of the classic New York. If you need some tunes to chill to, Diana's the one for you!

Diana Krall treats this collection of mostly standards (Gershwin and others) with the respect it deserves. A nice recording to put on when the lights are low and night has fallen.
