Overview
One of Christian music's best-loved singers and songwriters, Watson opens his 16th record with an anthem of encouragement, "A Little Unusual." It's appropriate, considering the personal trials that gave birth to this group of songs. A devastating illness and the death of his father may have left Watson shaken, but he's emerged with a renewed faith and conviction that's evident throughout this record. On "The Blood of Jesus," a criminal appears in heaven to explain "it was the blood of Jesus that opened heaven's door to let me in." On "Turning into Dad," Watson pays sweet homage to his father with the tender line, "I could do a lot worse than turning into my dad." Watson continually urges listeners to look beyond the things of this world, and while he never promises the road will be easy, his songs offer comfort to fellow travelers.
