Overview

At a time when teen idols such as Britney Spears and *NSync are dominating the pop culture landscape, '70s heartthrob David Cassidy returns to the fold with Then and Now, a mix of re-recorded favorites, covers, and new material. Fans who discovered Cassidy as a member of TV's fictional Partridge Family will be thrilled to reminisce via solid, new versions of faves such as "I Think I Love You," "I Woke Up This Morning," and, of course, "C'mon Get Happy." Elsewhere, Cassidy goes for a more sophisticated, Neil Diamond-like sound, using backup singers and lush string arrangements on PF cuts such as "I'll Meet You Halfway" and his Top Ten cover of the Association's ballad "Cherish." When he's not re-creating his own hits, such as the 1972 solo smash "Rock Me Baby" or the 1990 comeback hit "Lyin' to Myself," the onetime pin-up pays homage to the Lovin' Spoonful ("Do You Believe in Magic") and Bill Withers ("Ain't No Sunshine"). The one new song, "No Bridge (I Wouldn't Cross)" (Young & Gifted Mix), co-written by '60s pop singer Lulu, recalls Jon Secada's "Just Another Day" and is already a U.K. dance hit. With Then and Now, David Cassidy effectively connects the quaint efforts of his young pop star past with the more mature and polished sound of his present and future.

I watched the Partridge Family when I was a kid, and enjoyed it very much. It is nice to hear these songs some of which I don't remember hearing before. When I listen to this CD it puts me into a good mood. Some of my favorites songs on the CD are Some Kind Of Summer, No Bridge I Wouldn't Cross, Sheltered In Your Arms, Rock Me Baby, and. Ricky' s Tune.
