From the Okefenokee Swamp comes a frog with a wide mouth that he just loves to use. He's particularly interested in the eating habits of other creatures found in the great outdoors—that is, of course, until he comes upon a big green one with lots of teeth who finds wide-mouthed frogs simply delicious.

As a teacher, I have enjoyed reading this book to Kindergarten and 1st Grade students for years. As a grandmother, I have fun reading it to my grandchildren. I was first introduced to the book by a reading teacher when I went back to college. Children love this story and want it read over and over. They like making their mouths big and then very small like the frog in the story. Books like this help kids fall in love with reading and learn to read with expression. Reading should be fun for kids, and this book is fun! I hope this never goes out of print because I give it as a gift often and always recommend it to student teachers.

As a pre-school teacher I can say that the children in my class enjoyed this book! It is fun to see and hear them recite the story along with the grand finale. We still talk about the wide-mouth frog and our frog unit has been over for months.

Very simple text about what animals eat. Super pop-ups that kids will love.

This is a GREAT book to read aloud to preschoolers. The pop-ups do their own thing when they open the book and they are easy to see and not too delicate. When I did storytellng events for the 2-5 year old crowd, this made them howl every time. Slightly open and close the books just a little when each character speaks -- the pop-up is focused on the mouth and it makes the character "talk".Read this book to a smaller group, a group that can understand the rules about being kind to books, or one with their parents around. If you don't heed this advice, you will find that several kids will want to grab the bigger pop-ups..

I thought I would be able to read this book and keep it far enough away from my 7 month old baby's grasping hands. The rat's nose and whiskers were torn off by the 2nd read. Completely my fault. Pop-up books always look cool, but I wasn't a fan of the story.

This book is as fun for adults to read as it is for the children who listen. One of our favorites.

This book is terrific for elementary science teaching! The book can engage children in making observations about animal diversity--and more specifically--form and function. The adorable pop-up designs can lead into technology design by giving children ideas for making their own pop-up animal story books!
