About the Author

A recovering criminal attorney, Judy K. Walker has enough spare letters after her name (and student loan debt) to suggest that insatiable curiosity is something fictional Tallahassee PI Sydney Brennan inherited from her creator. Fortunately, Judy’s curiosity rarely involves murders.

Born and raised in West Virginia, Judy returns to her roots in her latest project, the Appalachian thriller Dead Hollow trilogy, beginning with the book Prodigal. She writes from her home in Hawaii, where she is surrounded by husband, dogs, cat, and assorted geckos. If she's not tapping away at her computer, she hopes she's in her snorkel fins.

These books are horrible - no real plot just a social justice warrior leading character. If another character is on the "wrong side" they are a hollow cliche. The first book would have been a more interesting if the poor little mistreated prison guard whom the main character immediately trusts turned out to be a secret serial killer who stalked her or even just taunted her to find him, then this book might have stood a chance of being interesting. Instead the reader is forced to wade through unending self-satisfied hogwash. Other reviews stated that these books are like the Kinsey Malone books, but they are nowhere near that level of writing since most of the books are preaching and just weird. These books are more the genre of Sara Paretsky - a trip through the looking glass into a warped perspective.

I bought this set, as they reminded me of Sue Grafton's Kinsey Millhone books. I will probably get the rest of series too.

Originally, I found the 1st book in the series, "Return to Lazarus", in the FREE section of the NOOK shop. I thought it was great, and I left a 5 star review. Then, I looked up the rest of the series. I took a chance on the next 2 books in the series being as good as the 1st and purchased this three-book compilation. I'm glad I did, because they are excellent! The characters are interesting, the plot points are intriguing, and the pacing is strong. I immediately bought books 4 and 5. If you're a fan of the excellent Kinsey Milhone series ("A is for Alibi", etc.), you'll likely enjoy this series, too.

PI Sydney Brennan has a knack for getting in serious trouble. She follows every lead even when it puts her in serious danger. If there is corruption in the panhandle of Florida she will uncover it. Looking forward to the next installment.
