The Squiggle and Me is a perfect story to share at bedtime. It will have both parent and child smiling from the first page to last, and somewhere along the way, they’ll share more than one good belly laugh. That’s a guarantee. Because a squiggle will “never splash in the muddle of a puddle, or sprattle like a frog playing an off-key fuddle.”

About the Author

Roland McElroy grew up in a small town in South Georgia. As a boy, he made up for the lack of excitement in his hometown by daily visits to the local library. The books he discovered there provided him with plenty of action and adventure and led to a life-long love of books, story-telling, and writing.

But writing was not an acceptable vocation, according to his parents, so other career choices were made. He worked at the local radio station as a teenager (hosting his own radio show) and used those skills to work his way through college at the University of Georgia. He even hosted a twice-weekly television show on the statewide public television network while finishing a graduate degree in journalism.

But a career in radio/television was cut short with an opportunity to work with then Governor Jimmy Carter on “Goals for Georgia.” This step into the political arena led him to a young man who aspired to be a U.S. Senator: Sam Nunn. McElroy joined the successful effort to put Nunn in the Senate and was off to Washington, DC in 1972. He spent 15 years with Senator Nunn, first as Press Secretary and finally as Chief of Staff.

McElroy tried his hand at independent political consulting in 1986 and was also head of the Outdoor Advertising Association for a couple of years before returning to the Senate as Chief of Staff for Senator Chuck Robb of Virginia. After a subsequent position as vice president of Government Affairs at the American Forest & Paper Association, McElroy established his own business in 1996 and has been writing for corporate and private clients ever since.

But his love of books and telling stories never waned. When grandchildren arrived, he was inspired to write down the Christmas story he had told his own children, and The Great MIzzariddle became his first self-published children’s book. His first novel, inspired by stories he heard and characters he met at his family’s summer vacation spot, was a challenge he could not ignore.

McElroy is a graduate of the University of Georgia and received his master’s degree at the Henry Grady School of Journalism at the University of Georgia in 1969. He and his wife Bettie live outside Washington, DC in the suburb of Falls Church, Virginia. For more information, please visit
