She was in the wrong place...

Fiercely independent and adventurous, Poppy Bridgerton will only wed a suitor whose keen intellect and interests match her own. Sadly, none of the fools from her London season qualify. While visiting a friend on the Dorset coast, Poppy is pleasantly surprised to discover a smugglers’ hideaway tucked inside a cave. But her delight turns to dismay when two pirates kidnap her and take her aboard a ship, leaving her bound and gagged on the captain’s bed…

He found her at the wrong time...

Known to society as a rascal and reckless privateer, Captain Andrew James Rokesby actually transports essential goods and documents for the British government. Setting sail on a time-sensitive voyage to Portugal, he’s stunned to find a woman waiting for him in his cabin. Surely, his imagination is getting the better of him. But no, she is very real—and his duty to the Crown means he's stuck with her.

Can two wrongs make the most perfect right?

When Andrew learns that she is a Bridgerton, he knows he will likely have to wed her to avert a scandal—though Poppy has no idea that he is the son of an earl and neighbor to her aristocratic cousins in Kent. On the high seas, their war of words soon gives way to an intoxicating passion. But when Andrew’s secret is revealed, will his declaration of love be enough to capture her heart…?

I have read all of Julia Quinn's books - and enjoyed all of them. As I read The Other Miss Bridgerton, I had a smile on my face almost the whole time, except when I was turning the pages fast in one "hairy" part, wanting to get through it and get back to smiling! Her dialogue is so witty, the characters so funny and charming, that it's almost impossible not to read the whole book in one sitting.

I generally find this author’s work outstanding, but this book left me disappointed. The plot felt contrived and the dialog lacked wit...two things I’ve never associated with Julia Quinn previously.

Wonderful characters. Plot under-developed and stodgy. Better luck next time.

While it wasn't Ms. Quinn's best work, I felt that "The Other Ms. Bridgerton" was a cute story. I was impressed by the fact that Ms. Quinn wrote Poppy as someone with brains. Poppy, after being in the wrong place at the wrong time, finds herself abducted and on board Andrew's ship. He recognizes her name, and realizes that his family and her's are acquainted, but she is not aware of this. He cautions her to stay in her cabin for the duration of the voyage, knowing that it is unsafe for her on deck. Instead of being contrary for the sake of being contrary, Poppy actually listens. They become friends and their friendship develops into more. There is mutual respect, adventure, and longing. I also liked the fact that they give each other the benefit of the doubt and don't go jumping to the worst conclusion every minute. I would think this sort of this would be harder to write. it is very hard to keep something like that interesting for the readers, but due to Ms. Quinn's talent, she manages it.

Her stories have so many qualities I enjoy in historical romances: handsome heroes, strong women, adventure and secrets...and of course happy endings. I'm never disappointed.

Third novel in the Rokesby series, we are once again meeting another of the Bridgerton family. Here we find Miss Poppy Bridgerton at loose ends; so she has agreed to spent time with her pregnant friend while the friend's husband is away. Now Poppy is kind. stubborn, witty, smart and a little too curious for her own good. She wants to marry for love or not at all. So while off exploring the beach near her friend's home, she find herself in a pickle. Now we meet Captain Andrew James (a Rokesby in truth) who is not what he seems. While his current occupation is fulfilling, it was never his passion and he is at a crossroads in his life. Enter Poppy. Can two strangers, thrown together in untenable circumstances, living in close quarters, find their true selves and their true destiny? You'll have to read The Other Miss Bridgerton to find the answers. Another of Ms. Quinn's excellent, imaginative novels. Dear reader, don't miss it! (less)

Such a fun story! Poppy is a wonderful heroine--her almost-unending curiosity and great imagination (the stories she makes up in her head are laugh-out-loud at times) made her a delight to read. Andrew is her perfect hero--as long as you can forget that he's been lying by omission to her since they met. (It's too darn easy to forget, too--they keep you completely distracted: first by their antagonism toward and aggravation with each other, later with the actual danger Ms. Quinn throws them into, and finally just with the sheer deliciousness of Poppy and Andrew.) I'm a sucker for spy heroes/heroines, so I especially loved Andrew's true profession for much of the book (though I definitely appreciated that he realized he was nearing the end of that particular career, since it doesn't lend itself well to family life). Ms. Quinn did a nice job using forced proximity here--even though Poppy spends a lot of the book trapped in the captain's cabin of a sailing ship, she managed to keep both our and Poppy's (and Andrew's!) interest going. Poppy's curiosity and imagination helped quite a bit here, as did plenty of slow burn romance deliciousness. Though I have to admit I was nearly as anxious as Poppy was for her to set foot on dry land at last, even though that excursion didn't go quite as planned. (Does it ever...?) Though this is the third book in the series, it should work fine as a standalone. Billie, Poppy's cousin and the heroine from book 1 plays a small role here, and the couple from book 2 are mentioned in passing a few times--you do not have to have read their books to appreciate Poppy and Andrew's, though, as this book is very much about the two of them. The narrator of the audiobook did a great job, as always. Her posh voice and accent adds an extra layer of authenticity to the story. Rating: 4 1/2 stars / A-

Excellent. Love it! Thanks !

Ms. Quinn's stories seem to be getting simpler. This book was very straight forward in following a basic plot. Not sure why we had to have the "big drama" except as a reason to separate them before the "big romanctic ending". Adding that created many holes in the story that went unanswered for me. Nice educational description on earthquake architecture in late 18th century tho. I enjoy stuff like that.

This is my favorite of the Rokesby series. Very witty dialog and likable characters.

Absolutely love Julia Quinn!! Her stories are so wonderfully written...great storylines, witty, intelligent dialogue, and charming characters. My only complaint is that I hate for them to end. This one does not disappoint. Ms. Quinn, please write faster, I beg of you!

anticipated, yes . . . had fun, adventure, romance . . . You get just what you expect from Julia Quinn's historical romance. You get adventure, mischief, humor, romance and just a bit more. The Bridgerton's treat you like family or very close friends. This one little Bridgerton find that some of her independent nature has bound her to a ship and its captain. What could she possible get in to with no place to really go? I love the Bridgertons and the Rokesbys. Find them all together makes this read just that much more to enjoy. I had a really good time.

The Other Miss Bridgerton is a Bridgerton’s Prequel by Julia Quinn. This was a really good book. There were some hilarious scenes that had me laughing out loud. Poppy Bridgerton is too curious for her own good. While exploring the coast, she comes across and smuggler’s cave and is caught by said smugglers. Kidnapped and taken to a ship she is held hostage on board the Infinity. Captain Andrew James is stunned to find a Bridgerton in his cabin. But he has secrets that must be kept. Poppy doesn’t know his real identity and he must keep it that way. “His hair was a rich warm brown, sun-streaked with gold and pulled into a devilish queue at the back of his neck. His face was quite simply perfect, with full, finely molded lips that tipped up at the corners, leaving him with an expression of permanent mischief. And his eyes were blue, so vividly so that she could discern their color from across the room.” This was another great book by Quinn in an already amazing series.
