About the Author
California native Jack Vance (1916-2013) was one of the greats of science fiction. He was the author of dozens of sci-fi books and fantasy novels, including the popular Lyonesse and Dying Earth series and the Hugo and Nebula Award-winning book The Last Castle. In 1997, he was honored as a Grand Master by the Science Fiction Writers of America. He died in Oakland, California.

This is written by J.M. Walsh, a different author. This is not a pen name for Jack Vance. Walsh is an Australian writer, while Vance is an American writer. The style is not at all like Vance's writing.
This book is not by Jack Vance. Possibly it might be by Algernon Blackwood as he wrote a story (not read by me) of the same name. This might be a good story except that I was in the mood to be reading Vance and this is not his voice at all. Nor is any title of "The Lost Valley" listed in the Vance Integral Edition. I am informed by someone at the Vance estate also that this book is not his. Some kind of mix-up. Maybe good, but I can't say, having put it down only a quarter way in...
