Callum Hunt has been a hero and an outcast, a force of good and a portent of evil. While the doors of the Magisterium have been open to him, he has never felt entirely welcome. If anything, he has felt others' resentment . . . and fear.

Now, as he begins his final year at the magical school, his place is less certain than ever. With one unique exception, he is estranged from most of his friends. A furtive darkness still hounds him. And the greatest challenge he will ever face is right around the corner.

In this monumental conclusion to the Magisterium series, bestselling authors Holly Black and Cassandra Clare push Callum to the brink of annihilation, showing how magic has the ability to both save and doom, create and destroy.

The Golden Tower Book Review Do you love the idea of magic and supernatural creatures? If so then The Golden Tower is for you. I picked up this book because of my love for the four predecessors and the fantastic cover art of the book. How could you go wrong with a book with dragons, castles, and people using magic on the cover? I thoroughly enjoyed The Golden Tower and I would give it 4.5/5 stars. It did a fantastic job ending the Magisterium series with it being book five. The Golden Tower by Cassandra Clare and Holly Black opens with the main character Callum Hunt returning home for the first time in years only then to find out something big. He’s figured out his best friend Aaron Stewart that was killed in the previous book is still alive within his mind. The Magisterium doors are open to Callum but everyone is shunning him because of what he is foretold to become, the enemy of death. This is shown on page 10 saying “The way other students stared at him and whispered behind their hands was familiar, too, but much less pleasant. Even some of the Master’s were doing it”. The only people seeing Callum as he truly is are his friends Tamara and Jasper, and his master Rufus. There is peace in the magic world until Alex, a devoured of chaos returns from the void. The void is the place Callum sent him into using chaos magic in the previous book and now Alex is out for revenge. This leaves the mages and students of the Magisterium pleading for Callums help. I loved how this book efficiently shows the importance of friendship. Callum joined the Magisterium as a nobody with a closed off personality, wanting nothing to do with anyone in the magic world. This all changed for him once he met Tamara and Aaron. They stayed by his side even when they found out he possessed the soul of the enemy of death. The book shows that friends are such an important concept in your everyday life. Friends are important because they stick with you even through your tough times. Another thing I absolutely loved about this book was the crazy plot twists. These twists leave you with suspense and have you longing to keep reading. I disliked how this book was a bit shorter and felt rushed compared to the four predecessors. I believe the authors took shortcuts because they were ready to finish this series that they’d been writing for five years.. I can relate to this because I’ve taken shortcuts especially in some school things. I absolutely loved The Golden Tower and give it a 4.5/5 star rating. My reason for not giving it a 5/5 rating is because of the pace of this book compared to the other four. This could be fixed with a slower pace and a bit more detail of key points of the story. I’d recommend this story to Harry Potter lovers and anyone who appreciates the idea of magic and supernatural creatures. I read the first book The Iron Trial in fifth grade after seeing it in the book fair and have stuck with the series waiting for each book to come out. This book could be read by all ages but would be most enjoyed by grades fourth to eighth only because the plot might be too predictable for teenagers and adults..

The Golden Tower is the epic conclusion to the amazing series called “The Magisterium”. This book would be considered the fantasy genre and is for ages 8 and up. The Golden Tower is filled with adventure and excitement, taking place in the present day, mostly around the country in the different places the characters travel. Call is now in his last year at the Magisterium, the school of magic. It has a thrilling storyline, where Cal, Tamara, and Aaron are trying to stop a devoured chaos mage, by getting devoured of all the other elements to push the chaos out of him! It even has an amazing twist, one that will leave you wondering, ‘what will happen next?’ Its characters, Cal, Tamara, Aaron, and Jasper all have unique attributes that are continuously seen in this series! Aaron, the same kind and intelligent boy from before, is now stuck in Call’s head, and only Call can hear him. Call is a character always willing to help his friends, and mostly willing to save the mage world. Tamara is still kind to everyone but has a lot of fighting in her. Jasper and Gwenda are characters who were moved into the same rooms as Call and Tamara, and both are kind but Jasper has a mean streak to him. By the time you finish reading this book, you will be wishing it was not the last book! The authors of this book have created a masterpiece of a conclusion to a wonderful series!
