About the Author

Meredith J. Berlin teaches drama, writes and directs plays, and does a little acting herself. The Ghost Light Kids Get Hooked is her first book. She lives in Seattle, Washington with her husband and two children, who love to explore the theater just like characters Maggie and Jacob. As far as she knows, they have never actually knocked over a ghost light.

The inspiration for The Ghost Light Kids Get Hooked came from Meredith's memories of running around in a dark, old movie theater in New York City as a kid. One cold winter morning, Meredith and her friends were standing outside the theater waiting for their school bus. The caretaker of the theater let them come in to stay warm. They crept up to the dark balcony and told each other scary stories. When the caretaker shouted that the bus was coming they hurried out, screaming and bumping into each other and everything in their path.

Years later, while working at a theater in London, Meredith heard some strange tales involving a ghost light. The layout of the theater building in this book is a cross between that theater in London and theaters she has worked at in Seattle, Washington and Washington, D.C..
