About the Author

Jennifer Bernard is a graduate of Harvard and a former news promo producer. The child of academics, she confounded her family by preferring romance novels to . . . well, any other books. I really enjoyed this cute but spicy romance. Melissa is a news producer who thinks her ideal man is going to be someone in the arts or a cultural profession. Harry is a FD Captain who thinks Melissa is a refreshing change from his ex-wife who chewed him up and spit him out. They meet when Melissa's grandmother buys a bachelor fireman at a charity auction, an auction where Melissa meets Harry and blows him off. Through a mix up in communication Melissa and Harry end up on the date instead of the purchased bachelor. There is a strong attraction between the two of them but Melissa is not sure what she really wants. Harry has to patiently prove that he is the guy for Melissa. I liked the fact that Melissa gives Harry a hard time about going out with him, even though he is hunky, nice, and interested. The relationship starts out as a friendship and progresses realistically. Once they get together, wow, it is pretty amazing. There are some complications- snarky ambitious co-workers, trust issues, misunderstandings, but they communicate after a near tragedy and the relationship gets worked out. There are two other storylines going through the book, one involving Melissa's father who has a history of alcohol abuse and one about a young foster child in an abusive situation. The foster child storyline is not as integrated into the book as I would have preferred, but the storyline about Melissa's dad is well done and believable. I had not read this author before and I see that there are additional books planned about the Bachelor Fireman. I think it will be a successful series.

Although this book has all the trappings of a typical romance novel, it’s a little more than that. There’s mystery, humor, devastation, and death. All the sex scenes in the world can’t hide the fact that there is a good storyline here, and it should be shared. Melissa is a feisty character who is endearing, but not as annoying as some female main characters can be. She has strength, even if she doesn’t always see it. Brody is a wonderful leading man with just a hint of mystery. Nelly, however, is by far the shining light of this book. We’d all be so lucky to have a grandmother like her.

Posted on Romancing the Books blog/ Reviewed by Ashleigh/ Review Copy from Personal Collection/ This is crazy! Bidding on a man just based on his looks and not on anything important. This train of thought for Melissa McGuire was just the tip of the ice berg when she is tricked by her grandmother to go to a bachelor’s auction to find a new man. These aren’t the type of men that get under Melissa’s skin, even if they all are built and handsome and heroic and…and…and…not her type at all! Running from the auction seemed like a good idea at the time, until she has to be rescued by someone who makes her blood boil and heart skip a beat. Not knowing his name is a good thing, until he shows up at her door the next day. Melissa is about the get a crash course on what makes her melt, and it happens to be a man with gray eyes and a depth that she didn’t expect at all. Captain Harry Brody didn’t sign up to do the bachelor auction, but knew that it was good for a charity so having his men in there was the next best thing. Being at the auditorium that night was only a fluke. Just being a good captain is what he kept telling himself. But one look at the dark haired beauty with the glasses and Brody is hooked. Knowing who she is only the first step. Knocking her socks off forever is the end goal. Will Brody’s past crashing into his present ruin his chances with Melissa or will he be able to put out this fire before it becomes an inferno? What a great starter to an awesome series! The story of Brody and Melissa was not only suspenseful but full of humor and great sex as well. Jennifer Bernard has come out of the publishing gate at a sprinting pace and with books like this there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight for her. I can’t wait to see what else she comes up with when it comes to these sexy fireman and the women that love them!

This is the book with which I lost my (romance novel) virginity. So let's see what this "romance novel" thing is all about. It's about corniness, sexy time, love (above all, true love), and fun. I was laughing aloud from the opening page where I read "The words on the poster were black, the background an orange fireball, and, front and center, a hunky fireman gripped his hose." Booyah! I'm hooked. How long will it take feisty television news producer Melissa McGuire and hunka hunka burning love fire captain Harry Brody to finally and irrevocably realize that they're truly meant for each other? Spoiler alert: by the end of the book (sorry to spoil that for you). In between a whole lot of soap opera-y goodness goes down (as does one uppity lady newscaster who LITERALLY goes down, um, on some guy). Not a lotta erotica, but a few hot scenes break up the emotional roller coaster. I found the book to be well written, paced, and plotted. The sexy time in it is written above average, which isn't a surprise since the author, Jennifer Bernard, moonlights as a dirty book writer. Ms. Bernard's good at this!Anyway, I had a lot of fun reading this trashy romance novel, and I give it 4 out of 5 stars because, frankly, firemen aren't my gig. Now librarians, that's another kettle of romantic fish. Anyone got an extra copy of Lust in the Library: An Erotic Novella? Note: I received a free copy of this book for review purposes via the Amazon Vine Program.

So, I don't know if I'd me mad, embarrassed, or think I had the best grandmother ever, if she won me a date with a smoking hot firefighter. Well that's what Melissa grandmother, the noisy "Nelly," did in Jennifer Bernard's first book of her new series "The Fireman Who Loved Me." Furious at her grandmother, Melissa gives in to her grandmother and goes on the bachelor auction date, and meets Captain Brody who is her complete opposite. With a romance she thinks is not meant to be and a meddling grandmother, and ex's getting in the way, Melissa and Brody must decide where their hearts lay.A great quick read, I would definitely recommend this to any romance reader. Can't wait to get my hands of the next ¿Bachelor Firemen Novel,¿ and read about the next bachelor from the San Gabriel bachelor firehouse.

The Fireman Who Loved Me is the first book that I have read from this author. With her new series coming out next month, I just knew I needed to try this series out…and quite frankly I was long overdue reading this book, because hot and sexy single firemen??? Oh hot mama…count me in. After reading The Fireman Who Loved Me is the first full length novel of the series, and what drew me in was the first few pages…it is rare for me to get so fully involved in a story within the first pages…but Jennifer Bernard succeeded and I was bursting into giggles on my break at work…I tell you, the stares made everyone think I was a nut case…but I don’t care, it was freaking hilarious. This is probably the moment I fell for the heroine, because she seems very self-assured and confident and so embarrassed to be at a event that showcases men’s bodies (no matter how hot they are), and tries to hide under the table with her grandmother sitting proudly next to her. The grandmohter…now she was hilarious and I wouldn’t be surprised if she would have been a “flower child” back in the day, she is vibrant and wild and so funny to watch her interactions. But what was sweet about this grandmother, is that she is dying from cancer, and she wants her granddaughter happy in love and married before she goes, and she will resort to any means to make that dream come true. Now the one person I didn’t like was the friend, Ella. She is one piece of work, selfish in every way. But there is a little sub plot with a man who is her perfect match in every way…literally. What was also fun was the commaderie of the firemen. I loved them all, and I can hardly wait to read their stories…especially Ryan’s. What made this story quite wonderful was the sweet love story that develops, and the crazy mishaps that happen….but overall this is a blazing hot romance to sizzle your toes. The Cover  I really love the cover..its flirty and playful, and gives off the tone “sweet romance” and I just love those abs on our Fireman….whew he is sexy HOT right? Overall View  The Fireman Who Loved Me is a sexy read to burn you if you’re not careful. It’s a story of fighting for who you love, of crazy circumstances that bring two people together, how opposites really Do attract…and a poignant love story to make you scream for more. DELICIOUSLY ROMANTIC!! Favorite Quotes When I love, I love hard. You’re stuck with me for good. In your news report, you didn’t say what happened at the end of the bumpy ride. You didn’t say what it takes to break the curse. But I know. True Love. the kind that doesn’t go away because of a few disasters along the way. I love you, Melissa.

Jennifer Bernard has created a literally smoking story involving firemen, curses, and the annoying media that surround them. Full of humor and fun, THE FIREMAN WHO LOVED ME delivers and it’s the perfect beginning to a great series. If you like hot fireman who can save you by day and night, this one’s for you!

3.5 stars. Grandmother Nelly always gets to choose her own birthday treat - and for this birthday, it's the bachelor firefighter date auction. When 25-year old sexy firefighter Ryan squicks out, even sexier Captain Brody takes his place. Since Grandmother Nelly had always intended to bail on the date and send her granddaughter, news producer Melissa McGuire in her place, it's the start of a hot romance. Even with an early-bird, "easily digestible" dinner. This book is light, funny, and very sexy. My only dislike is the barriers that keep these two apart seem contrived, and easily dissolved with one good heart-to-heart. There are also interfering, and somewhat cartoonish exes; the books is almost 375 pages, and it dragged more than a little. Good beach read; fun but not earthshattering.

The Fireman Who Loved Me by Jennifer Bernard starts off a sizzling series, A Bachelor Firemen Novel. News producer Melissa McGuire came back to San Gabriel to take care of her beloved grandmother Nelly. Her job has its challenges but none can compare to her matchmaking grandmother. Nelly wins a date in the Bachelor auction who she gives to Melissa. Melissa didn’t need help in her love life but she agrees to go on the date with a local fireman. Captain Harry Brody is a true leader and takes his job and his crew very seriously. He subs for one of his crew on a date that was one in a local auction. He thinks he is taking out an elderly woman, Brody is shocked to see its her granddaughter that he is going to take out. Brody and Melissa are like oil and water, they just don’t mix. But the more they get to know each other their first impressions take a leap out the windows. Seems they can’t keep their hands off each other. Their chemistry is hotter then any fire. But when Brody’s ex makes an appearance will their new relationship survive? The Fireman Who Loved Me is a hot and sexy read. The relationship between Melissa and Brody sets off sparks when ever they are together. Melissa’s relationship with her grandmother is touching and special. This is the first book I have read by Jennifer Bernard and looking forward to many more.

This is the first book in the Bachelor Firemen of San Gabriel series. We are introduced to Melissa McGuire and her grandmother Nelly. Nelly has requested that Melissa join her for her birthday at the Hilton. But instead of their usually yearly sundaes or lunch buffet, Nelly has planned to buy Melissa a date from one of the San Gabriel Fire Department Bachelors who are being auctioned off, for the benefit of the Widows and Children's Fund. Nelly has picked out the fireman she wants, and ends up buying for Melissa. But the Ryan, the fireman she purchases, is embarrassed about taking an octogenarian out on a date. So he asks his Captain Brody if he will fill in for him. Nelly tells Melissa that she isn't feeling well and has her fill in for her. Of course, Captain Brody had seen Melissa at the auction and helped her up after another of the bidders had knocked her to the floor. She though he was their to go up for auction and brushed him off. So imagine their combined surprise when he is the one who knocks on the door for the date. I really enjoyed this book. Reading the prequel, I had gotten a introduction to many of the secondary characters in this book, the firemen of San Gabriel Firehouse, plus Stan the firehouse dog and mascot. They help move the story along and provide a comic relief to this romance.  The curse that supposedly Virgil Rush, a fireman during the 1800's put on the firehouse after his mail-order bride never showed up and left him the laughing stock of the firehouse, plays again and again. But that is the bases for the series after all.  There was a theme of forgiveness that appeared several times and in several ways in this book as well as standing up for oneself and acceptance. I gave this book 4 stars on Goodreads.

Whatever this was aiming for, it failed. Miserably.
