From New York Times bestselling author Megan Hart comes an emotionally charged novel that explores the secrets and lies that can destroy a family...forever.

Home isn't always the place you go because they have to take you in. Sometimes, home's the place you can't escape, no matter how far or fast you run.

Janelle Decker hasn't been home in a long, long time. She ran away years ago, barely in front of the tragedy that rocked the small town of St. Mary's, Pennsylvania. Only one other person knows the part Janelle played in what happened back then. One man who took the blame for himself.
Gabe Tierney stayed behind to face the terrible consequences of the accident that left one younger brother permanently disabled and the other doing whatever he can to avoid them all.

When Janelle returns with her twelve-year-old son to get her life in order and take care of her dying Nan, it should be easy for her and Gabe to rekindle their former friendship – except that Gabe can't forgive Janelle for abandoning him, and Janelle can't reconcile her part in what happened back then.

There is no moving forward until you stop yourself from looking back, but will Janelle and Gabe be able to face their lives ahead? Or will their secrets and the lies they told keep them prisoners of their shared past?

"A tense look at dark secrets and the redemptive power of truth." – Kirkus Reviews

About the Author

Megan Hart writes books. Some of them use a lot of bad words, but most of the other words are okay. She can't live without music, the internet, or the ocean, but she and soda have achieved an amicable uncoupling. She can't stand the feeling of corduroy or velvet, and modern art leaves her cold. She writes a little bit of everything from horror to romance, though she’s best known for writing erotic fiction that sometimes makes you cry. 3.5 out of 5 My experience of Megan Hart to date has been with her oft-deliciously dirty erotic romance, so I was intrigued to see this title marketed as more of a straight romantic fiction novel. I suppose, like myself, most will know Megan for the erotic stuff, so if you are expecting one of those, this is not one. I'd probably shelf The Favor in the fiction with romantic elements basket. So what did I think of The Favor? I actually enjoyed this, despite it being a departure from my usual romances. Megan Hart has done a really good job of creating a raw and often painful portrayal of how mistakes and secrets can rule your life even decades on. Janelle Decker and the Tierney boys, Gabe, Anthony and Michael were always a tight group. However an accident (and more than a few secrets) ends with one permanently damaged, one running away and family relationships broken. Upon Janelle's return twenty years later, and despite their best intentions, Janelle and Gabe revisit the teenage romance interrupted all those years ago. However the dark secrets of the past have a way of coming back to haunt them. The use of flashbacks to tell the story did get a little confusing on occasion, but generally was pretty well done. The romance (and by extension, the sexy times) were pretty light on. However, this wasn't really an issue for me with this book not being such a strict romance. All in all, this was definitely different to any Megan Hart I've read before, however I have to say it's a departure from the norm that I really enjoyed. Note: I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I liked this book, but it is a dark and slightly tragic story. If you're expecting romance, find another book.

This book is very different from other books from this author. I went in expecting it to be full-blown romance but it turned out to be more about overcoming the traumas of the past than romance itself. It is a very sad story, full of flawed and hurt characters, but very well developed as it is the norm with this author. It is also dark, immersing the reader into the minds of the characters and their dark past slowly. Sometimes it was too slow though, which is why I gave this book 4 stars instead of 5. Still, this is a unique story that is worth reading.

The author danced around some pretty serious abuse issues throughout the entire book leaving the reader to fill in the blanks. In the last few paragraphs she wraps it all up...nice, neat, and tidy...but so very unsatisfying. The overall story was not that good but I was hoping that sooner or later the author would actually let the reader know what had transpired in the past. Save your time and money. There are much better books out there!

Have you ever dreamed you were dreaming and you woke up with all the emotions of something real? This book was too real, too sad, and too painful. It is the picture of my stinking, lonely life. Why did i make myself read it? Now i remember why i read so many stories about people needing love. Most of us never find it.

I love Megan Hart books, and The Favor is another great book to add to my collection.  I would love a second book to follow up this one.

Another great story from Megan Hart. It's an emotional journey, but definitely worth the time. It's hard to read her books and not feel what the characters are experiencing. If you like MH's other books, you'll like this one too.

What's with the Discussion Questions at the end? Is this school? So strange! Bizzare book went back and forth, Dark story. Disturbing. A horrible story with too many twists and turns in the subplot. Unwholeome characters doing repugnant things. Sick stotyline.
