The first book in the 1797 Series is a great, fast paced story of romance. Roadblock along the way give you strong H/H and of course a HEA. Highly recommend.

The Duke of Abernathe is a great friend to have. He’s wild and charismatic. However, he’s vowed that he’ll never marry even though he’s never told anyone why. Now his sister’s friend Emma has asked him to help her to gain the attention of other men. He agrees, not realizing how easy it is to be around her. This was a quick and fulfilling read. The author does a great job in really showing the characters in a limited amount of time. I really enjoyed the story and highly recommend. **I voluntarily read and reviewed this book

James Rylon, the Duke of Abernathe, was the unwanted heir. He forms the 1797 Club consisting of ten friends who are going to be dukes. The club members support each other and help teach James what he needs to know to be the Duke. Emma Liston is an wallflower that needs to be married. Her father has been absent for a while, but every time he returns, he brings a new scandal. When he returns, her chance for marriage will be gone. Emma meets Lady Margaret, James' sister, at a ball and they become fast friends after Emma helps them with their mother. Margaret invites Emma to a country party. James realises that he can help Emma and develops a plot to pretend he is interested in Emma so she can gain the attention of others. Along the way, James realises that he is attracted to Emma to the point he doesn't want another man to have her. When her father returns with disturbing news, can James truly save her? This is a great beginning to the 1797 Club Series! I loved James, Emma and Margaret. (I can't wait for Margaret to get her HEA.) I wanted to smack Emma's mother for how she treated Emma. The best part of the ending was how James put Mrs. Liston in her place! I can't wait for the next book in the series.

4.25* This is another great start to a series that has caught my full attention. One of the thing that I can say about Jess Michaels is that she can make me cry in a prologue more times then any other author. In this first book we meet janes Rylon the Duke of Abernathe raised by a father who treated him with contempt, a mother that drank her sorrows away and a sister Meg who he adored. When he was young he and his friends formed The 1797 Club made up of their friends who were to be Dukes. They became his extended family. Emma Liston is a wallflower because she's to intelligent for her own good and nothing to offer a future husband. She's watched James from afar, he's always made her nervous. He's larger then life to perfect, the golden boy and way to handsome. Then one night at a ball she helps Meg with her mother and everything changes. James starts to notice all the things he's never noticed before and he starts to crave getting to know her better. They strike up a plan to help ea h other out but the more time spent together the more they begin to need each other. Their grand plan just might backfire on them. I can not wait to read the next book and Meg gets her HEA.

Miss Emma Liston is a wallflower and needs to marry, the problem is she’s a wallflower and she has no prospects to marry. While Emma and Lady Meg, the Dukes’ sister, are together talking at the ball when Meg's mother joins them, it is obvious that she is drunk and about to cause a scandal. Poor Emma is no stranger to scandal, her father gambles and is hardly around and she helps Lady Meg avoid a scandal. James the Duke is worried about the gossip and Emma’s involvement in helping Meg. James is concerned about his family and who gets close to them and he approaches Emma and he finds he is actually intrigued by her. The two strike a bargain where James helps Emma find a husband and by his interest in Emma will help to keep all the ladies of the ton from bothering him. Emma and James both have troubled pasts with their parents, will they let their past and their parents define them or keep them from finding true love and happiness that neither thought they deserved. I received this book from net galley for an honest review.

This was a great start to what I know is going to be a great series by Michaels!! Just think, 10 eligible dukes and their stories, I can't wait!! I loved Emma!! She was one of those woman that because of her past, just doesn't know how great she is. She is first befriended by Meg when she helps out with a sticky situation. Meg, seeing how great Emma is, brings her into her inner circle where she ends up spending more time with Meg's brother James, the Duke of Abernathe. Emma's attraction to James is instant, but she knows that a duke is too good for her. James has been through a lot in his life that left him determined never to marry. But he is more than happy to pay some attention to Emma to help her on the marriage mart. But once he starts spending more time with her, he doesn't like the way he feels when he thinks of her going to another man. James keeps denying his feelings, but when the time comes that he might lose Emma, he steps up to the plate and doesn't allow that to happen. I loved watching both Meg and James grow as people while their relationship came together. Meg began to see her own worth as James began to see that he can't allow his father to dictate is decisions from the grave. I can't wait for the next book in the series, Her favorite Duke, which features Meg and Simon, the Duke of Crestwood. I just knew there was something between them while reading this story! Michaels does an awesome job of tying her series together!

I read this book in one sitting!!! It was my first book by Jess Michaels and I am looking forward to the rest of the 1797 Club! I love the idea of this group of men banding together to grow, learn, and inherit together. James and Emma's story was a great way to start! At times I felt that it moved quickly buttt when the tension is there why fight it ;) The tension was strong and hot. I felt that both of their troubled pasts really made them have a deeper understanding of each other- they are both able to empathize and provide support for their parents continuing theatrics. That being said- Emma's parents really were the worst. I can appreciate James' mother's issues based on her past. I enjoyed The Daring Duke and look forward to rest of this HOT series.

The Daring Duke: The 1797 Club by Jess Michaels is the first book in her highly anticipated Regency, "The 1797 Club" series. Whew, get ready to be scandalized, wildly surprised, dangerously threatened with sizzling passionate. "The Daring Duke" definitely heats up the pages of this incredible story of James and Emma. The 1797 Club, consists of ten men who would all be dukes. And so this amazing saga begins.... This is James, the Duke of Abernathe, who is wild, charismatic, charming, and Miss Emma Liston, a longtime wallflower with an absentee father. She needs to marry before her father does something scandalous. So she decides to enlist the help of her friend Meg's brother, James. Filled with scandalous actions, an absentee father, secrets, passion and romance with a few surprises along the way. Can friendship, turned to passion equal a lifetime of love and HEA? Well written with Ms. Michaels' usual aplomp, her in depth characters, her vivid descriptions, her usual intrigue and her style for the romantic. Readers will be captivated by James and Emma's story. The secondary characters, definitely need stories of their own! I was sweep away with "The Daring Duke". Be prepared to be carried to a place where anything can happen, including happiness, and a daring road to finding your forever kind of love. Sizzling hot! Fast paced, page turning kinda of story! A must read, for sure! Can't wait to read Book 2. Once again, Ms. Michaels has created a spellbound romance! Fans of Jess Michaels, sizzling romance, surprises, Regency romance, daring Dukes and the fiery woman who tame them, will fall in love with "The Daring Duke". Another hit for Jess Michaels! Strongly recommended! I received a complimentary copy. Rating: 4.5 Heat rating: Sizzling Reviewed by: AprilR

Count on Jess Michaels to push through the envelope and get right to the heart of the matter. Wicked entertainment, full of scandal, secrets and romance. The Daring Duke is a fantastic tale of sensuality that stirs the heart while tempting everything else. In an act of desperation, wallflower Emma, seeks out life of the party, James' (Duke of Abernathe) help. What begins as a pact between friends becomes a romance that just may last a lifetime. The Daring Duke is emotionally stunning, and of course this is Jess Michaels, so salacious as well. Prepare to scandalized and equally surprised.

The Daring Duke by Jess Michaels A 1997 Club Novel #1 Ten teens at boarding school form a club to assist one another as they grow into their positions of being dukes one day - The 1997 Club - this series is already plotted out to have ten volumes starring the ten who form the club. In this the first book, we meet James Rylon – once the Earl of Pullman – now the Duke of Abernathe. We find out more about him as we also find out whether or not he will find a HEA and if so, who he will end up with as his duchess. At one of the season’s events Emma Liston is in her usual position maintaining her wallflower and bluestocking status while chatting with Meg Rylon when Meg’s mother shows up in need of assistance. Emma helps Meg with her mother and a friendship between Emma and Meg begins to form. When James, Meg’s brother, comes to check on his mother he meets Emma and then dances with her and he is somewhat intrigued…for a number of reasons…though not the usual reasons he becomes interested in a woman. Emma’s parents are a pain in the patoot. Her mother has one thing on her mind and that is to marry Emma off to guarantee she, the mother, will be secure in the future. Her father is a scoundrel and absentee husband who usually returns home only after having created a scandal. James’s parents are higher born but have been equally if differently problematic. He has his sister and his club mates that stand in place of the brothers his parents did not provide. Neither Emma nor James has any desire to marry but with society and family the way it is they realize that at some point in time they will probably end up with someone whether they want to or not. With Meg wanting Emma around more and more there is plenty of opportunity for James to observe and spend time with Emma. There is time to flirt, communicate, share and be together while both maintain that there is nothing between them…though they make others in the group believe there is. Whether or not James will wise up and realize that a vow made to spite his father still has validity is one question to be answered as is what Emma is willing to do to please her parents and society. Will the two find a HEA, and if so, will it be together? This was a fun read and great introduction to the series. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series in which I do believe that Meg, betrothed to one of the club members, will have to decide whether marriage to that person or perhaps to another is best for all involved. I have never read another book by this author but look forward to reading more of her books in the future. Thank you to NetGalley and Victory Editing-The Passionate Pen. This is my honest review. 5 Stars
