Jacob, a tinker's apprentice, has never backed down from an adventure, but when a swarm of Deadlands creatures shatters the peace of Ancora, he'll face trials the likes of which he has never imagined. Forced out of the Lowlands, Jacob and his friends seek shelter behind the towering walls of the Highlands, only to uncover a terrible darkness at the heart of their city.

There are old wounds in the forgotten places of the world, and some are soaked in blood.

Jacob and his allies flee into the Deadlands after the fall of Ancora. Charles, the enigmatic smith, hopes to find answers in the desert city of Bollwerk that could prevent a war.

Their enemies are many, and here Jacob will learn the cost of life in the Deadlands.

The world dies in war only to be reborn. It is the way of things, and always will be.

Forged in the Deadlands crucible, and armed with the knowledge of their true enemy, Jacob, Alice, and their allies bring the fight back to Ancora. The wounds cut deep in their darkest hour, but in the end, vengeance will light their path.

It strikes me that there doesn't seem to be a explanation for the stars that are given. So I thought I'd start giving my take on it. 1 horrible no redeeming qualities. So far I've never given a 1. 2 blah but there are redeeming qualities. 3 ok worth reading. 4 great but there's something off. 5 loved it. So now about this trilogy. I'd call it a everyone book I'm 55 and loved it. A great series, I want to say more about this story but I absolutely hate spoilers, so I won't do it to you by going into details. The narrator brings the story to life. Reasons I enjoyed this audio book: Wonderful characters, Page-turner, Great world building, Unpredictable, Original, Easy-to-read/listen, Entertaining, Action-packed. Bookshelves/tags: adventure, collection, dystopian, futuristic, romance, tragic, young-adult. This Audio book was given to me at my request from the publisher, author or narrator and I provided this unbiased voluntary review.

The series starts out slow but picks up pace. Even the slow parts keep you interested. Once the pace picks up, it leaves you breathless and wanting more.

Its sold as yound adult fiction but i'm 49 and i loved it .it follows the adventures of jacob and alice they try and prevent a war which will destroy their home ...i dont like spoilers so thats all the storyline i'll say ...what made me love this book were the amazing world building skills Mr.Asher shows ,and the diversity and depth of the charachters who you will find yourself rooting for all combined in an action packed storyline is a good clean read though it does contain the violence you'd expect in a time of conflict ...i recommend it for pre teens and up ...but fair warning once you start it is VERY hard to put down ...
