Over one million readers have fallen in love with Ava's bestselling Dare Valley and Dare River series...come join the family.

USA Today Bestselling Author Ava Miles presents a sweet and emotional friends-to-lovers story about the power of new beginnings.

The last thing international photojournalist Lucy O'Brien expected when she returned to her hometown was for her mother to ask her to shoot photos for a 'Calendar Girls'-like calendar...

Of course, it's all for a good cause--raising money for breast cancer. Lucy agrees to help--ribald photos and all. It's not like she's told anyone her secret reason for coming home: that a recent trauma overseas threatens her livelihood. But her longtime BFF, Dr. Andy Hale, isn't letting her keep secrets from him. He understands heartache. After losing the love of a lifetime, he's now a widower raising a young son.

Everyone in town is wondering if the boy-next door and the zany traveler will finally move from friends to lovers. At first, the sparks of attraction fly amidst their easygoing banter over ice cream cones. But there are deeper feelings at work here, and both must uncover the seeds of their new beginnings together, realizing there's nothing more powerful than love and friendship to pave the way.

4.5 Stars Ava weaves her magic once again. I love how the title fits so well with the book because for Lucy and Andy it's a calendar of new beginnings. The emotion this one grabs out of me. Lucy is doing what she loves but from the accident overseas the life and career she once knew may be over. She has no one to turn to, but her best friend Andy. Andy would do anything for Lucy. Once they're back on the same continent sparks of attraction ignite and takes their friendship in a whole new direction. Are the risks worth it? Lucy's future so uncertain she doesn't know how to handle the here and now let alone think about the future. Lucy is also struggling with her relationship with her mom. It takes some hits in this one, but can they find their way to each other. Previous characters in the series make appearances and sometimes steal the show. The whole concept of the calendar in this book is truly beautiful and heartwarming. This book sucks you and hold you prisoner until you finish. This story is about 2 best friends: Lucy & Andy. When Lucy comes back home to recuperate from injuries, she and Andy realize that the feelings they have had for each other are stronger than they both knew. There are obstacles to work through, which they are able to do, and they both come to the realization that they want to be together forever.I received an eBook copy from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. The Calendar of New Beginnings by Ava Miles is the ninth in the Dare Valley series. This book finds us spending time with Andy Hale and Lucy O’Brien, who have been best friends since kindergarten. How many people in this world can say they’re lucky enough to have remained friends with someone from kindergarten, much less a best friend? I’m thankful that I can say I still have a friend from kindergarten. We’ve lost contact a couple of times but we always find each other again. It’s so wonderful! I really enjoyed Andy & Lucy’s story about that scary transition between friendship and love. I thought Ms. Miles handled all the worries and fears that one faces in that situation quite well. It was shown and talked about, but it didn’t over-power the scenes or the book. I also thought how the characters took the needs and feelings of Danny, Andy’s son, was authentic. I found all the things that Lucy is going through with being a photographer but having her vision damaged to be very fascinating as well. I’m a photographer, albeit an amateur one, and learning about the way Lucy has honed her skills and how she’s dealing with the adversity of having her vision damaged felt real, raw, and honest to me. My main job is in a library. I can only imagine how I’d feel if through some freak accident, I wasn’t able to work in a library anymore. It’s daunting to think about and that anguish shines through in Lucy without over-taking the story. I’m thrilled that Ms. Miles has started including a map of the town in her Dare Valley series as well. I love maps in general. The use of them for fictitious places helps me get into the story better as I’m able to visualize where people are moving to and from around the town. Yet, despite how well-written it is and how wonderful the story line is, there’s something about the book that just feels “off” to me. I’m not even sure what it is. There is more family conflict in this one which may be setting off my inner anxiety about such things. Also, Moira, Andy’s sister, who is also the main heroine in the next Dare Valley novel, was more active in this one, but she has a pretty substantial role in the story so it’s not like she’s showing up with no purpose. I don’t know what it is that I’m feeling; it’s just “off” somehow. That’s why I only gave it 4 out of 5 stars. I certainly recommend this book to anyone interested in a good romance novel. It is well-written, it is highly enjoyable, and it’s entirely probable that you won’t feel like it’s “off” at all. All in all it’s another great addition to the Dare Valley series. [** I received a free ebook copy of this book from the author in exchange for my fair and honest review. My review was not influenced by this, nor was I compensated in any other way. Andy and Lucy have been best friends since they were children. That’s not to say that they never felt more than just friendship, they just never revealed that to anyone, not even each other. Their careers forced them apart physically, but they never lost that friendship, even when Andy fell in love, got married and had a son. Unfortunately, Andy lost Kim to cancer a few short years later. He’s had to struggle to try to move on from her, but is in a much better place. Lucy spends most of her time traveling from one country to another as a photojournalist. Taking pictures that tell a story is who she is, not just a job. When an after an attack injures her eyes that affects the way she sees and can take photographs, she returns home to heal and and to try to figure out where she goes from there. Andy and Lucy’s friendship picks up as if they hadn’t been apart so long, but neither of them expected that seeing each other again would bring back those feelings from long ago. They both struggle with the attraction, but the love behind it makes it easier for them to give in. Lucy is afraid that Andy won’t be able to handle it if and when she decides to go back out into the field, and struggles with making long term plans, while Andy can already see the rest of their lives together. He just has to make her believe in them and he does a beautiful job of showing her. Another great book in the Dare Valley series, Andy and Lucy’s story is an emotional, romantic and heartwarming read. I received an ARC for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review, all conclusions are my own.

I love this series by Ava Miles!! The Calendar of New Beginnings is the ninth book in the series and is Lucy and Andy's story. They have been best friends since they were children and the few times an attraction started they each put a stop to it because Lucy's plan was to leave home and never return. She had big dreams. She wanted to take pictures and travel the world and for years that is what she has done, but she recently suffered physical trauma and an injury that could jeopardize her career and everything that for years she thought was important. Coming home to rest, teach at the local college and work on a special photo assignment that the local residents are doing for charity she hopes will get her mind off her injury and give her the rest that she needs to heal, but the special assignment has some people worked up and Lucy finds it more stressful than it needs to be. Andy is loving having Lucy home where she is safe from harm and hopefully will heal from the trauma that she recently has suffered, but having her close also brings back old feelings and even though he is okay with that he also feels sadness because it means he is moving forward in his life that no longer includes his deceased wife. I was given an ARC for an honest review. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.

I have anxiously been awaiting the newest book in Ava Miles Dare Valley series and it didn't disappoint! The Calendar of New Beginnings was a quick read for me because I had a hard time putting it down! The characters are well developed, the story line feels realistic and it has all the emotional tugs I've come to expect from Ava...I laughed AND I got teary eyed (in a good way!) I love meeting new characters in Dare Valley and visiting the familiar ones! This is my favorite Ava Miles book so far (although really, they are ALL my favorite!) I have read all of Ava Miles' books and I have to say this is probably one of my favorites. From the beginning, the emotional tugs at your heart make you want to settle down somewhere comfortable and read this story until the end. This is another story about the Hale family in Dare Valley but you do not necessarily need to have read the previous stories to thoroughly enjoy this emotional tale. This is a keeper. Ava continues to invite us in to her books as if we were friends of the Hales and residents of Dare Valley. While Ava’s works are fiction, Andy and Lucy are more than characters in the hearts of readers. Andy is a single dad still grieving the loss of his wife while raising his son and working as a doctor back in his hometown surrounded by his family. Lucy is Andy’s best childhood friend, world famous photojournalist, who has experienced the tragedy of the war, and is suffering from the most crippling injury of all…possibly permanent vision lost in her dominant eye. Lucy has returned home to Dare Valley to regroup and teach a semester of photojournalism under the famous Arthur Hale while waiting for her vision impairment to declare itself acute or permanent. Little do Andy and Lucy know but unexplored feelings from childhood may lead to more than just friendship. However, can they overcome the events of their past to bring awareness to the community about breast cancer with the help of their ever-mingling moms’ unconventional ways? A terrific new chapter in the Dare Valley series! "The Calendar of New Beginnings" is the latest installment of Ava Miles's Dare Valley series. It features Lucy, a war photographer who returns home to recover from an incident overseas; and her life-long best friend, Andy, a doctor who moved back home to Dare Valley with his young son after his wife passed from breast cancer. Lucy's and Andy's mothers come up with an idea to make a calendar to raise money for cancer research, and hire Lucy to take the photos. Between her class at the local college, dealing with her mother, and working on the calendar, Lucy and Andy both find that the spark they each had for the other in high school has never really gone out. The book shows a different side of the cancer battle: the side of those who lost someone due to cancer. So many stories focus on the cancer patient themselves but ignore what happens to those left behind. As someone who has lost family members due to this horrible disease, the message of this book really struck a cord with me. I cannot wait to see what Ms. Miles comes up with next! I received an eBook copy from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own.

This is another wonderful addition to Dare Valley and the families that live there. If you haven't experienced a trip there yet, don't wait any longer. Another “must read” from Ava Miles. This newest novel in Dare Valley continues the tradition of Hale family stories. This time is the story of photojournalist Lucy O’Brien and Dr. Andy Hale. Two childhood best friends realizing they can be much more than that, finding another special bond, having romantic feelings for each other. They have been friends for better and for worse. Their friendship surpassed Andy getting married and losing his wife and mother of his precious son, Danny, as well as Lucy’s dangerous assignments overseas. Working and living in war torn areas of Africa and the Middle East. Lucy captures the terror, pain and life in general, in her pictures. Lucy was injured in an attack and her vision is affected. She returns to her home town, Dare Valley, to take a break and to heal from her injuries. She doesn't want to tell her family the real reason why she came home. All Lucy wants to do is hide, but she cannot hide from her best friend, Dr. Hale. Their story is handled with deep understanding and humor. I love how Ava Miles connects all characters within the stories. Andy played a pretty big role in Natalie Hale's story, his sister. We watched him trying to heal and dealing with life after losing the love of his life, his young beautiful wife. He is a strong and wise guy. You will fall in love with him in no time. Andy's mother, April, and Lucy's mother, Ellen, are both hoping that Andy and Lucy get romantically involved. April and Ellen would like for Lucy to take photos for a calendar to raise money for breast cancer awareness. It will be a calendar for those that have lost someone to cancer. They would like for the calendar to have the people showing a little skin...not total nudes. The calendar is called “The Calendar of New Beginnings”. You need to see what happens next. This is another emotional, yet realistic and funny story. A wonderful book with great love, forgiveness, tears of happiness and family. I received an eBook copy from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own.

The Calendar of New Beginnings is another story set in Dare Valley. I really enjoy reading Ava’s stories set in Dare Valley. The characters become old friends. This story is about Lucy and Andy. They are both from Dare Valley and knew each other before college. Lucy never let the relationship go past the friend stage because she always wanted to be a photojournalist. Andy met another woman , got married, add a child and then his young wife dies of breast cancer. Lucy comes back to Dare Valley as she is healing from injuries on the war front. She has a problem with her eye and questions if she will ever be able to do the work she loves. Lucy and Andy encourage each other to work through their fears and find happiness with each other. I wish the Calendar story was a little more seen in the overall story but I loved this book. I received an eBook copy from the publisher for the purpose of ab honest review. I absolutely loved The Calendar of New Beginnings. Ava Miles has always touched my heart with the books she writes and this book is no different. To me, one of the best relationship is where the couple are best of friends and Lucy and Andy have such a relationship. Best friends since kindergarten, being there for each other through happiness and sadness has kept their friendship going strong. And now, they find themselves drawn to each other. I love their story and their journey to finding each other. It is a really sweet, poignant and heartwarming story. My favorite lines in the story: "You help me get in touch with my heart. You always have. And today... today you put me into a deeper connection with my heart than I've ever experienced." "You've always helped me feel my heart too, even when I didn't think I had one left." These two sentences are just so touching that I couldn't help tearing when I read this. The secondary characters in the stories are really wonderful too. Love Lucy's dad and Grandpa Hale. How nice to have people like them in your life. Really just can't get enough of Dare Valley and the people in them. Looking forward to more great books by Ava Miles. ** I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

The Calendar of New Beginnings is a wonderful book full of love, friendship and family. Lucy O'Brien is a photojournalist from Dare Valley that has been working and living overseas in war torn areas of Afghanistan and Africa. She captures life in pictures. Lucy was injured in attack on one of the villages. Her vision has been damaged. She needs to take a break and go home so that she can heal from the injuries. While healing, Lucy will teach at the Emmits Merriam School of Journalism in Dare Valley. Lucy and her mother have always had a different relationship. Her mother would like one thing, while Lucy would like another. Lucy would like to avoid this power struggle with her mother. Her mother, Ellen would like Lucy to shoot pictures for a calendar. It will be a calendar for those that have lost someone to cancer. Lucy has been fortunate to have her best friend, Andy Hale, Andy Cakes, since childhood. Andy lost his wife Kim to breast cancer and is raising their son Danny. Andy and Lucy have stayed friends, and only friends. She was grateful she never risked their important relationship. Lucy has decided to keep her injuries a secret. She does not want to tell Andy, but decides to anyway. She needs to have someone to talk to about her vision difficulties. Andy's mother April and Lucy's mother are both hoping that Andy and Lucy get together and create more grandchildren. April and Ellen have a new project for Lucy. They would like Lucy to take photos for a calendar that they have organized to raise money for breast cancer awareness. They would like for the calendar to have the people showing a little skin...not total nudes, but using props to cover the appropriate anatomy. The name of the Calendar is called The Calendar of New Beginnings. Andy and Lucy are having fun with their friendship. They have always been able to share everything with one another. Lucy knows that losing Kim was huge loss for Andy. Lucy is able to rent a cottage. Lucy begins teaching as well as working on the calendar. Lucy and Andy start seeing each other daily and talking. Lucy starts to recognize that there are times when she looks at Andy that it makes her all warm inside. What is this feeling? She sometimes had an attraction to Andy in high school, but never acted on it. She was planning on leaving Dare Valley, she needed to block out this weirdness, it would hurt them if they gave into the moments of attraction. Lucy and Ellen have a complete falling out over the pictures that Lucy has taken for the calendar. Ellen is mad that all of the pictures show sadness and she wanted happiness. Andy was upset and went to Lucy's mom house and showed her the picture that Lucy had taken of him when he thought about Kim. Lucy and Ellen apologize to each other and Lucy finally shares with her mother why she is home. This is a wonderful book with great love, forgiveness and family. My favorite passage from the book is "You've always helped me feel my heart too." he said quietly, "even when I didn't think I had one left." I received an ebook copy from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review. All conclusions are my own.

Latest Dare Valley Success. This is a story of two friends since kindergarten finding their way back to one another. One (Andy Hale) a widowed doctor with a young son who lost his wife to breast cancer. The other an award winning photographer (Lucy O'Brien) who was recently injured in an attack on a village in the Congo resulting in not only physical injuries but also the loss of partial vision in her right eye. While family and friends think she is home to teach at a local college not knowing the real is so she can hopefully regain not only her strength but also her vision. While home her mother requests that she take pictures for the calendar of new beginnings featuring their local friends in the buff. A wonderful story of love and healing. It was fun visiting with all our Dare Valley friends especially Grandpa Hale. I received and e book form the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review. Ava Miles has done it again! This is a great story of two friends that grew up thick as thieves, went their separate ways to chase their career paths, and then are brought back together 20 years later. Lucy has become an accomplished photojournalist that has covered the stories and areas in the world that most would only cringe at. Andy became a doctor that is raising his 5 year old son on his own after the death of his wife. Over the years they have remained close and leaned on each other during the hard times. Now that Lucy is back in Dare Valley, she is facing one of the hardest times of her life, and is leaning on her best friend Andy to help her through. Lucy's mom has come up with a "project" for her to work on while she is back in town. Her mom wants her to put her skills as a photographer to use to create a calendar that will raise money for cancer research. What her mother isn't aware of is the true reason Lucy is taking time away from her illustrious career. During her last job overseas, she was injured and now she is struggling with her ability to take photos. Andy and Lucy try to fight the mutual attraction they have for one another because of their life long friendship. But eventually, love wins them over. Great read! This was a beautiful story of how to find love again after life-altering heartache. Lucy and Andy have been best friends since kindergarten. Even with all of her dangerous world travels through war torn countries, they have been there and supported one another through everything. Even the death of his wife Kim. But now Lucy is back home and he knows something is wrong. Explaining how her injuries will possibly forever change her life, Lucy has a hard time coming to terms with what she's supposed to do. But Andy is there for her just as he's always been. And when the attire they have felt off and on throughout their friendship becomes known, they take the chance on love. New and scary to say the least, Lucy finds a love in him that she has never felt before and Andy has leaned to open his heart again. But will Lucy rip it apart once her travels take her away again? Can they come to terms with all that has changed and learn to love through it all or will fears ruin their love and their friendship? This was such a beautiful story and one I highly recommend!!!

Andy Hale and Lucy O'Brien had been best friends forever, bonded by platonic love. Their loving friendship had endured long periods of separation, loving relationships with others, horrific trauma, and deep sadness. Now they are reunited in their hometown as Andy is recovering from the loss of his wife to cancer and Lucy confronts the dilemma of her future after a physical and psychological trauma experienced during an overseas photography mission. Their deep understanding of each other will test and ultimately strengthen their love. While Andy and Lucy explore their relationship, other bonds broken by cancer are realized and celebrated by the production of the Calendar of New Beginnings. The making of the calendar precipitates a furious disagreement between Lucy and her mother which resolves eventually. The theme of learning to live through the loss of a loved one abounds. This book is packed with new beginnings. A calendar could be made without the connection of death. The description of Andy's and Lucy's physical love was absolutely beautiful (I was jealous!). Danny's revelation to his father about his mother's visits made me teary. And Moira's new path leaves me eager to read her story. Ava Miles continues to impress. Each book introduces us to more well-rounded characters in complex associations demonstrating her expanding comprehension of what it means to be human.
