This book isn't enough to stand on it's own. The book description is up front in stating that this is a part 1 of 2, but in all honesty, it's an incomplete story. It lacks the character and plot development to be considered a standalone novel. The author really should have waited and marketed one book. For other readers, I would strongly encourage waiting until the rest of the book is released, since there's not much point in reading this on its own. Here's hoping the second half make the first worth reading...

Love, Lies and Mimi’s Token Snark Raised in the lap of luxury but purposely excluded from it, Rose Marie Hale isn’t your typical heiress. Raised by nannies and tutors who never lasted longer than a few weeks under her grandparents guardianship since birth, Rose has isolated from her peers, without any true attachments. Sharing a room room with another member of the staff, forced to earn her keep since she was a teenager, while grandma Gertie and Grandpa Melvil enjoy a life of leisure. This is all according to the wishes of her mother left in her will so she would understand humility and how to handle all she will inherit upon her 21st Birthday. There is one problem it’s all a lie, and now she has just 4 weeks to find a “suitable” husband or her grandparents will gain complete control of her trust fund and she will be truly destitute. Desperate to live up to her mother's wishes as well as beat her grandparent she tries to enlists the help of therapist Dr Bexley Hughes. In this modern day Cinderella story, Rose tries to outwit her grandparents, find true love in 30 days, and figure out who she can trust. Once again Mimi Jean delivers a twisty tail where nothing is what is seems, assumptions are more than likely incorrect, and surprises are just a page turn away. Will Rose get her happily ever after or will her family win? Packed with the snark and brilliant 1 liners like “you look like an avocado with syphilis” and ending on a minor cliffhanger The Boyfriend Collector leaves you anxious for the finale in book 2 set to come out later this month.

Favorite Quotes: This man doesn’t just have a stick up his @, it’s an entire forest. The maids come and go like lettuce in a vegetable drawer. They’re chewed up or they rot, but either way, they’re gone in seven days. I’m not looking for Mr. Perfect. I’m looking for Mr. Perfect-For-Me. I rub my eyes, disregarding the fact that I still have on last night’s mascara and that I’m going to look like last night’s trash panda, too. My Review: This fast-paced little missive was a quick read with a bit of everything including Ms. Pamfiloff’s trademark snarky humor, family drama involving a naïve and gullible Cinderella-type main character, greedy grandparents, fraud, a hit man, embezzlement, multiple suitors vying to be groom potential, and a wonky will. Oh my, and the story isn’t done yet. I am eager for the rest of the tale, even though I want to give Rose a few good pinches for being so dim-witted and easily deceived.

The Boyfriend Collector is book one in this duet by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff. I have come to expect the unexpected with any book of Mimi Jean’s, and this book definitely fits this description. I would call this a Cinderella story. It is not a cliff hanger. The book comes to an ending. But it is a “to be continued.” Because there is definitely more to our heroine’s story which will be here soon in the second book. Rose Marie Hale grew up in the mansion of her mother’s, a mother she never knew. Instead she was raised by her grandparents. She spent her life being made to feel small, worthless. She was made to work for her keep. She was told that her mother’s fortune would become hers upon her twenty first birthday. Except Rose found the “real” copy of the will. Her entire life was a lie. In reality, her grandparents were greedy and abusive. But also, the will states that she has to marry by her birthday, or the entire estate will go to her grandparents. In desperation, Rose seeks out the help of a therapist, Dr. Bex Hughes. She has a plan. But you know that desperate plans rarely go as hoped. There is one additional glitch to Rose’s plan. She hadn’t planned to fall for her therapist. “She’s a force of nature, and if the right man is lucky enough to catch her wind in his sails, I have no doubt he’d stay by her side forever.” This is told in alternating point of views, Rose’s and Bex’s. If you like strong, determined heroines, then this book is for you. Because just like in the quote, Rose is a force of nature. She doesn’t look back, just keeps looking forward, doing whatever she needs to do to achieve her goals. She might be a little naïve due to the fact that she’s been completely shut off from the outside world her entire life, but she’s a fast learner. As I said earlier, you never know what to expect with Mimi’s books. And this one is just the same. You don’t know who to trust or what’s going to happen next. I can’t wait to see what the next chapter of Rose’s story is.

The Boyfriend Collector is a fun take on a Cinderella story that has an interesting cast of characters and a few little twists and turns guaranteed to keep you entertained until the very end. Rose Hale is the daughter of a famous romance novelist who died during childbirth. A unique will stipulation requires the young Rose to marry by her 21st birthday so that she will have access to her inheritance. However, things are not so easy. Throw in an evil set of greedy, manipulative grandparents and a series of questionable dates and you have a recipe for not exactly disaster, but well yes, disaster. I loved Rose. Given her horrible upbringing, you couldn’t help but be in awe of her positive attitude and sweet nature. She’s a bit naive (and also a bit wary) when it comes to dating and that is part of what made this book so entertaining. Bex is Rose’s therapist who has a process. A process that cannot be deviated from. He is dedicated towards giving his clients the tools they need to be their own hero and it was endearing to watch him struggle with his rigidness and maintaining that professional boundary between him and Rose. The book has it humorous moments as well as some moments of suspense. It moves at a good pace and has an intriguing storyline. The various potential suitors were entertaining. This book does end in a cliffhanger. I received The Boyfriend Collector for free and look forward to the 2nd book, the conclusion to this duet.

Never ever underestimate what Mimi Jean will do to you as a reader. Not ever. Don't even blink. This story was a white knuckle brush with a lot crazy and all the twists and turns that MJ could throw our way! Holy hot pants! Forget the seatbelt, just prepare to be thrown. She brings us a deeply emotional story about Rose, child of a best selling author who lost her mother years ago, while she is still a living legend for devoted readers, Rose lives in her shadow under the cruel and perverse guardianship of grandparents who are too busy depriving Rose of any semblance of life, and robbing her blind. Rose lives as a servant while her grandparents just...... right. Rose seeks the help of a therapist after she learns the terms of her mothers will among other things; and being initially unable to even articulate what she needs during that first meeting with Bex, her therapist. As the story unfolds we watch Rose Marie both break free from her life under the thumb of the crazy family, she begins to stand on her own and decidedly starts making her own decisions. That said, what we get is what Mimi Jean is best at, a windy twisty insane story, suspense, romance and some outright crazy moments, leaving you to wonder what the hell you just read. I'm totally ready for the second half of this story. It's a must read.
