This is a great example of realistic fiction because it is so true to life as it was written by someone who experienced what the main charactar, Laura went through. The author used parts of her own life to write the book and that makes it very realistic. It is also a great example of realistic fiction because it helps us to see into other people's lives and it helps us to see interactions between Laura and her dog Jack in a way that many people can empathize with.Media: charcoal

Laura's great stories made accessible to early chapter-book readers. Warning: it does include the part where Jack dies - a part I cannot read to this day without tears.

Though I am not a dog person, I felt very fond of Jack as he protected the Ingalls family. This is a few stories about Jack in the big woods, helping the girls in Plum Creek, and finally dying. They are all of course excellent stories, and, though it is very sad when Jack dies, animal lovers are sure to enjoy them along with Little House series fans (and it might be a good way to get children into the Little House books).
