“Crunch crunch crunch. Teeth are strong and sharp. Crunch crunch crunch. Teeth can help you chew. But teeth are not for biting. Ouch! Biting hurts.” Sooner or later, almost all young children will bite someone—a friend, a parent, a sibling. This upbeat, colorful, virtually indestructible book helps prevent biting and teaches positive alternatives.

The companion to our best-selling Hands Are Not for Hitting Board Book, Teeth Are Not for Biting gives reasons why children might want to bite. Little mouths feel sore when new teeth come in; sometimes kids bite when they’re hungry, tired, cranky, frustrated, angry, bored, distressed, or seeking attention. Author Elizabeth Verdick suggests positive things children can do instead of biting: chew a chewy toy, drink a cold drink, get a hug, tell a grown-up. This book also includes helpful tips for parents and caregivers.

In this installment of the "Best Behavior Series" toddlers learn that teeth are not for biting, even if they are teething and they hurt. It gives simple, practical alternatives, such as chewing a toy, drinking a cold drink, or talking to adult. The simple illustrations are warm, brightly colored, and friendly. The text is in a well sized font, and doesn't interfere with the story. Parents will like to read this story to their 2-4 year olds and will especially appreciate the good tips on what to do instead of biting.

We have a 19 month old who is a big biter and after trying everything else we could think, I bought this book as a last ditch effort. We read it each time she bit and the biting lessened. It has almost stopped. I think it helps to see the pictures and hear the repetition.

My daughter started biting at daycare. We bought this book and after a few weeks, no more biting. I'm sure it's not the book alone. The book is very colorful and there are different families throughout talking about biting. The back also has a note to parents and caregivers on how to deal with biting. This book is a current favorite of my daughters, so it must not be too preachy or monotonous.

My 18 month old is biting at daycare and I purchased this book to read with him. He actually sits there and listens as I read and looks at the pictures! Hopefully the message will sink in eventually!
