Gr 6 Up-This well-written and accessible book begins with an introduction that deftly summarizes the extent and severity of alcohol addiction among young adults. Stewart then traces the struggles of four teens, two boys and two girls, who lived in families characterized by poor communication and with parents who were generally in denial about the gravity of their child's problems. In their own words, the four young people discuss how and when they began drinking, how long it continued, and their treatment programs. An epilogue updates readers on how they were doing at the time of publication. Average-quality black-and-white photographs illustrate the text. This enlightening and cautionary title echoes some of the themes of Chris Campbell's personal memoir, No Guarantees (Macmillan, 1993).- Libby K.
