TEAR ME APART by J.T. Ellison is electrifying! You'll start out thinking one thing, and by the end of the book it's all turned upside down. My first read by this author will most definitely NOT be my last. The author has a natural way of detailing vivid details in a relaxed way that makes you feel like you aren't being inundated with new info at ever turn, even though the story is quickly developing into more than we were ever expecting. Mindy Wright is a 17 year old skiing sensation, but when a crash ends her season and sends her to the hospital with a broken leg, she never expects that this will be the least of her worries shortly. While in surgery to repair the damage to her leg, doctors discover she has an aggressive form of leukemia that quickly turns into a nightmare. When she's in need of a bone marrow transplant, imagine the surprise when it comes to light that her parents aren't really her parents! Secrets unravel as the plot goes back in time here and there to bring us the story surrounding how she came to be raised by Lauren and Jasper ... and as it all starts to get a little too close to the truth, danger starts lurking it's ugly head! I highly recommend this story to anyone who loves a story filled with intrigue, secrets and lies. There is an amazing story underneath these secrets and watching it unfold is riveting!

Mindy is only 17 years old and already has made quite a name for herself as a competitive skier. She is on the way to eventually getting on the Olympic team. She has an accident while skiing at an event and breaks her leg. During surgery, her doctors find out that she has leukemia. Mindy has been tired lately but she assumed it was because she was training so heavily. She is very sick and soon needs a stem cell transplant or she will die. Her parents are tested to see if they are matches. That leads to the discovery that they are not related to her at all. Who are her biological parents? Why did nobody know that she was adopted? The novel rotates between Mindy, her adoptive mother, her aunt and her biological dad. And in between that there are letters between two friends from years ago that you try to figure out how they are related to your present day people. It does sound like a lot of characters rotating between and to keep track of, but it worked and seemed fine. I did enjoy this one, it was a good story that kept me interested

This book is (wonderfully) not at all what I was expecting when I picked it up. Where I was expecting a typical psychologically thriller, this is something more akin to a character drama, with a mystery and a twist of thriller mixed in, and I LOVED it. Once I picked it up, I burned through it within two days as I was genuinely curious to see what the twists were going to be. The characters in this one are all interesting, a little flawed and very complicated and I love that in a story. I really enjoyed how J.T. Ellison moved the story back and forth between present day and the letter writing between Leisel & V decades before. It was the perfect way to unravel small clues to where the story was going, without letting the cat entirely out of the bag. Anytime I became convinced I knew where the story was headed I found myself wrong, and guessing again. I don't want to reveal too much, as this is one that you deserve to enjoy without hints of spoilers, but I will say that I didn't see the ending coming, and I LOVED how it played out. Books that can surprise me get my highest praise, as it seems more and more difficult to do. TRIGGER WARNING: I would be remiss if I did not mention - this book speaks frankly about cutting and suicide, so if either of those are triggers for you, please do proceed cautiously (or possibly take a pass on this one). While both topics are explored in great depth, it is done with care. I think it is terrific that authors are discussing these topics more openly as it helps advance and normalize conversation around mental health issues, however I would never want a reader to end up harmed by a plot. An amazing follow up to Lie to Me - this one will not disappoint bookworms who are looking for the next great character drama suspense to keep them guessing.

Tear Me Apart is the latest book from J.T. Ellison. Seventeen year old Mindy Wright is a world class skier, on track for the Olympics. An accident during a race leaves her with a broken leg. To compound things, a routine blood test reveals Mindy has cancer - and that she is not related to the people she calls Mom and Dad. Now how could that be? Yep, mom Lauren had to know right? So why has she kept that from both Mindy and husband Jasper. Who are Lauren's parents - can they find them in time for a stem cell transplant? Lauren's sister Juliet is a DNA expert with the Colorado Bureau of Investigations and starts the ball rolling to save her niece. Tear Me Apart is told in present day with flashbacks to the past in the form of letters between two teenagers. The truth is in those missives and is slowly revealed as the book progresses. My suspect for 'whodunit' was decided early on in the book, but the journey to the final answers is a twisty road. There's a lot packed into the 500 pages of Tear Me Apart - suspense, mystery, family drama, secrets. sports, romance, medical and mental health issues and more. The characters leave no doubt - you'll be firmly behind some and cursing others. (And there's a great dog!) The book moves along really quickly, with lots of action. A few plot points niggled at me. One of them being where and with whom the letters ended up. But it was easy to let that go in the run up to the final pages. Tear Me Apart is another great read from J.T. Ellison.

The last couple of months it seems I've been on a mystery/thriller/suspense kick and I've been reading everything I can get my hands on in this genre.  Today's post is no exception - I was browsing NetGalley recently and thanks to my blogging association with them, I was able to request and receive Tear Me Apart by J.T Ellison.  Because I've read a few of her other books, I knew what to expect, and because I fell in love with her 2017 standalone thriller, Lie to Me, I was pretty excited to read this one. Mindy Wright is 17 - she's an increasingly popular competitive downhill skier who is in the running to make the Olympic team. All Mindy must do is ace her competition...... but then it happens, Mindy suffers a falls and ends up being hospitalized for the injury to her leg with surgery pending. Shockingly, during surgery, the doctors discover that Mindy is sick with an aggressive form of leukemia and needs a stem cell transplant.  Both of Mindy's parents undergo routine screening and it is then that they discover that neither is a match.......neither parent is biologically related to Mindy! Mindy’s mother, Lauren, has always known but never told anyone, even her husband, Jasper, nor her sister, Juliet. The question is why? And who are Mindy’s parents?  Lauren has a lot of hidden secrets, but they're nothing compared to her desire for her daughter's ability to succeed and she will make sure that no one will get in the way of what she wants most.  The story is told from multiple points of view across the book in separate sections. In each section more and more layers of this story are revealed as readers get deeper and deeper into the years of lies and secrets. Even though there are different points of view and different time, I was totally hooked from the beginning of this story and kept flipping pages because I needed to know how it was going to turn out. Tear Me Apart is a story that brings mental and physical illness issues to light.  It also shows readers just how far some people will go for those they love. I especially appreciated Ms. Ellison's touching note at the end of the book where she mentions her inspiration and her support of suicide prevention.  I was provided with a complimentary electronic advanced reader copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for my post.  I was not required to post a positive review, but have chosen to do so because it was such a great story!

I received a complimentary e-book copy of Tear Me Apart from MIRA via NetGalley. Tear Me Apart by J. T. Ellison is a suspense filled story about that you won't be able to put down. Mindy is 17, during a race that could qualify her for the women's Olympic ski team, she crashes. Her leg is severely broken, while in surgery to repair the break, the doctors realize that she is suffering from an aggressive form of leukemia. Mindy doesn't respond well to the chemo, the doctors say that her only hope for survival is a stem cell transplant. Mindy's parents, Lauren and Jasper, as well as Mindy's aunt, Juliet, are her only living relatives. Not only are they not a match to donate stem cells but their DNA profiles prove that Lauren and Jasper are not Mindy's biological parents. The hunt is on for a donor. Juliet will stop at nothing to save her niece's life. However someone has deadly secrets and will stop at nothing to keep the past hidden. This was a great book to get lost in. I loved that the pace never slowed down.

A powerful story of a mother's love and what she would do to protect her child. Lauren's daughter is a super-star skier and on her way to the Olympics. She takes a big fall and comes crashing down. In the hospital, they find she has leukemia which can only be treated with a stem cell transplant. It is then they find her parents are not a match - Mindy is not their daughter. The story has you hanging onto every word and surprises keep popping up as we find out the real story behind the lives of this family. Lies, betrayals and murder find their way into the families surrounding Mindy. Never disappointed in a J.T.Ellison book;

This is my second book by J.T. Ellison and I loved it! We begin with Mindy Wright, a young competitive skier who is preparing for an important qualifying race. You cannot help but get sucked in as she goes through her pre-start ritual, and then takes off, only to end the race breaking her leg. As she is rushed to the hospital for surgery to repair it, Mindy learns she has an aggressive form of cancer, and needs a stem cell treatment to save her life. It should be easy enough to test her parents and Aunt Juliet for compatibility. However, Juliet, a DNA investigations specialist, quickly learns that her sister Lauren, Mindy's perfect, overbearing mother, has been keeping secrets from everyone. This book starts with the intense race mentioned above and does not stop the rest of the way through. You don't know whom to believe, Lauren is hiding so many things but yet is still trying to control the situation (which is quickly spiraling out of control), and everyone is trying to find the truth. Who are Mindy's real parents? What are her current ones hiding? What exactly does Lauren know and why is she acting different? Why do people keep dying? Oh, and just when you think you can relax and it has been solved, Ellison throws another twist and here we go again. The story also deals with difficult subjects such as mental illness and suicide in such a great way. I enjoyed that this kept me guessing, I did not figure everything out, and it did not have a clean resolution which was great for this book. Also, the use of the dog in here was excellent, and that's all I will say on that, you have to read it to understand! Thanks to NetGalley for an electronic ARC of this book to review. All above opinions are my own.

OMG, this book. What a ride Ms. Ellison takes us on with it! Like with the other book I've read from this author ( Lie to Me ) I don't want to give away too much, so this review is going to be light on details. Trust me, you're going to want to discover them for yourself with this one. I purposely didn't re-read the blurb before I picked it up this week, and didn't look at a single review until after I'd finished it--I just jumped right in. I swear I barely even breathed once I got about halfway through--I didn't want anything to interrupt my reading time. I needed to see it through to the end... Tear Me Apart, like Ms. Ellison's last book, is full of plot twists and turns. (Honestly, so much had already happened when I was only at the 25% point it was hard to believe. And yeah, things were only getting started!) You know someone is lying--at least one someone!--and it's pretty clear early on that there's an awful lot of convenient? suspicious? deaths going around, though the why isn't immediately obvious. The who becomes horribly clear as the book progresses, though--and then watch out, because things start to happen really, really quickly and most of them are fairly scary... And that's all I'm going to say, because really, you need to read this one for yourself. Phew! And now I need to decompress...maybe with a nice cup of decaf tea. Though you'd better believe I'm going to take it straight, without any sweeteners at all. (Because that's how I always drink my tea. No. Other. Reason.) ;) Rating: 4 1/2 stars / A- I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Wow! This book had me reading well into the night to try to put the pieces of this plot together. Was Mindy going to survive this awful illness and injury and resume her amazing career as a young skier? The pain in each of the characters in this novel was heartbreaking and yet they were strong. The instinct to care, protect and fight for Mindy was shining through each word written. Not all done right or legal, but nevertheless done in the name of love. The threads all were tied up neatly by the last few pages of this incredibly written psychological thriller, but the slopes were slick at times. I was definitely holding on to the edge of my seat while turning the pages. Excellent!

Tear Me Apart – J.T. Ellison I was fortunate to receive this novel from Netgalley.com as an Advance Reader Copy, in exchange for an objective review. Oh my goodness, this book was awesome!! The story opens in a prologue that describes the first meeting between two unnamed teen women who find themselves sharing a room at a psychiatric hospital, before the opening chapter begins in present day, where Olympic hopeful Mindy Wright is preparing herself for a trip down the mountain in effort to win the championship and secure a berth on the Olympic Ski Team. A snowstorm has started, making visibility dicey, and Mindy hits a flag and crashes, fracturing her leg in the process. Surgery seemingly goes without incident until the doctors tell Lauren, Mindy’s mom, that Mindy has leukemia and needs immediate treatment. As Mindy’s family lines up to be tested for donor suitability, it becomes apparent that none of them are biologically related to Mindy, a fact that stuns the group, as Lauren has always passed Mindy off as her own. Lauren’s sister Juliet, a DNA specialist for the CBI, takes matters into her own hands and attempts to find Mindy’s biological parents, as Mindy gets sicker and sicker. She is successful, and the truth comes gradually to light as Mindy meets her biological father and learns of her past. But the past and the present collide, and a killer will do anything to keep their secrets hidden… I loved this book! It grabs you from the moment you read the first paragraph and doesn’t let you go until you reach the very end – and still you wish it would go on! An amazing edge-of-your-seat thriller that you don’t want to miss!!
