With the candid quirkiness of Awkward Family Photos and the confessional intimacy of PostSecret, Ransom Riggs's Talking Pictures is a haunting collection of antique found photographs-with evocative inscriptions that bring these lost personal moments to life-from the author of the New York Times bestselling illustrated novel Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. Each image in Talking Pictures reveals a singular, frozen moment in a person's life, be it joyful, quiet, or steeped in sorrow. Yet the book's unique depth comes from the writing accompanying each photo: as with the caption revealing how one seemingly random snapshot of a dancing couple captured the first dance of their 40-year marriage, each successive inscription shines like a flashbulb illuminating a photograph's particular context and lighting up our connection to the past.

This was not a good book for a Nook. Really hard to read. I was hoping this book would be along the same lines as his 1st novel...RADAR...

I paid how much for this? Was hoping it'd be like his other book or at least longer then 25 pages

I've been waiting for this book for months. Finally get it, pay $10 for it, and it's only 25 pages. I bought it on my Nook so I can't see half the pictures. It reminds me of a coffee table book...a little bit interesting, but not something I would buy. Too bad I bought it.

So sorry to see the bad reviews below! You should the synopsis so you know what you're buying. This is a beautiful book --366 pages long, by the way, that is a great compilation of moments frozen in time. Vintage photos that, at first, may not "say" anything until you read what was written on the back of the photo. Can make you laugh out loud or take your breath away. As a collector of old photos, as an artist, as a person interested in history and culture, I loved this book. And yes, this IS So very "Ransom"!! What an incredible talent you are, Mr. Riggs.

This is a wonderful book full of old found snapshots with the original inscriptions included. Some reviewers here have commented that it is only 25 pages long, but that is not correct. The photo pages are not included in the page numbering. Also, I read this on my Nook with no problems. For those of you complaining about the small images -- just double tap on any picture and you can re-size it to your liking to see it closer up. Then just tap "Close" and you will be back in place. That is true for any Nook book! Ransom Riggs' new book (second Miss Perrigren book)will be released January 14th.

If you love old pictures I think you will like this book! It is full of pictures, the pictures say it all! I love my copy and find it very interesting to see the past. Buy the paperback not the nook version! I hope Riggs does another book like this :)

I ordered this book to read on my Nook Tablet and enjoyed it very much.  True, the photographs are quite small, but the story is engaging , well written and had enough meat in it to be a page turner for me.  It is quite appropriate for young teens, as the story  winds its way through the feeling of singularity that strikes many when they hit the teen years.  Many young people spend valuable time struggling to fit it and this book extolls the values of encouraging each individual to develop their talents without regrets.  Warning ahead, might to be the anchor book for a series.  I liked it very much.

I can see why people with original nooks wouldnt be able to view this well, but on my nook tablet it was formatted beautifully and more than 25 pages.

I was so hoping for a real book. I loved this author's previous book. But this one... I am sure that I could have found my own family pictures that were more interesting than these. And to think that I spent $10.99 on this "book". It was only 25 pages!!! What a rip off! Can I get a refund Barnes and Noble????????

The book, if I received it in it's entirety, would get a 5 star rating. I only received 25 pages. So for the book.....Yes.....Loved it!  Right up my alley!  I love old photographs with a hint of history written on the back. *****DO NOT BUY THIS PARTICULAR VERSION>>>>IT IS ONLY 25 PAGES***** I contacted support and they said they were sending the issue to the content people.  If it is fixable, I will hear from them in 7-10 days, or they offered me a refund. I am waiting for the 10 days, as I really was looking forward to this! Why they don't disable this, I don't understand!

This book was excellent!    I read the paperback version, not electronic.   I laughed, I cried, I was amazed, and it causes one to really stop and think.   It sounds like the poor reviews were from electronic book users.  If you love antiques, history, and old photos, you will loves this book.  Great job Ransom Riggs. By the way, I am another person like Mr. Riggs who has been sifting through old photos at antique stores for years and years, in many different states.

I can't believe I paid so much money for this crap. This so-called book has 25 pages of found photos but no story. You can't even see all the features of the pictures on the Nook! The person who says 366 pages is obviously referring to a different book than this. I feel cheated. I won't trust this author again. Buyer beware!!!

This book was amazing! Its sad to see so many bad reviews. If you are familiar with Ransom Riggs you know that is very much his style! Its a great coffee table book. I am so happy I purchased it. Its like nothing I've ever seen before. Especially for lovers/collectors of old photographs. GENIUS!

Thank goodness I read the review from Jan. 8, 2014 that explained about the number of pages issue and also explained how to enlarge pictures. I am so glad I bought it on my Nook tablet. It had me laughing hard and tearing up. I really enjoyed this book.

I wish they would put number of pages where a person could see them. When you pay more than $1.00 you expect to get more than 50 pages. Total waste of good money.
