The Tale of Peter Rabbit is a British children's book written and illustrated by Beatrix Potter that follows mischievous and disobedient young Peter Rabbit as he is chased about the garden of Mr. McGregor. He escapes and returns home to his mother who puts him to bed after dosing him with camomile tea. The tale was written for five-year-old Noel Moore, son of Potter's former governess Annie Carter Moore, in 1893. It was revised and privately printed by Potter in 1901 after several publishers' rejections but was printed in a trade edition by Frederick Warne & Co. in 1902. The book was a success, and multiple reprints were issued in the years immediately following its debut. It has been translated into 36 languages and with 45 million copies sold it is one of the best-selling books of all time.

The book has generated considerable merchandise over the decades since its release for both children and adults with toys, dishes, foods, clothing, videos and other products made available. Potter was one of the first to be responsible for such merchandise when she patented a Peter Rabbit doll in 1903 and followed it almost immediately with a Peter Rabbit board game.

By making the hero of the tale a disobedient and rebellious little rabbit, Potter subverted her era's definition of the good child and the literary hero genre which typically followed the adventures of a brave, resourceful, young white male. Peter Rabbit appeared as a character in a 1971 ballet film, and the tale has been adapted to an animated television series.

I loved this when I was a little girl and my mother would read it to me while I sat on her lap. My daughter loves it now when I read it to her. This is truly one of the timeless classics.

I remember reading this book as a little girl and now I read it to my little girl. While reading this book usually results in my daughter rambling on for hours at a time, days on end, about her concern for little Peter Rabit it's clear that she loves this story and she regularly asks for me to reread it. The pictures are beautiful and the story has a good, if somewhat stong, lesson in it. It is a true children's classic and always will be.

I love Peter Rabbit and so do my kids. The narrator is not boring and the flow of the book is good.

This is so cute, but the very the last sentence is missing. Ok more like part of the last sentence. I still like it, but glad I only paid 99cents for it. Save your money tho, if it's messed up it's not worth a penny.

I bought this for a baby shower. We were requested to bring a book instead of a card. This is a book my mother read to me. I read to my daughter. And hopefully, mothers will read to their children for generations to come. My daughter, now age 32, still has here complete "Tales of Beatrix Potter" collection, including the Frederic Ashton ballet on DVD. I have purchased Beatrix Potter books for other children over the years. I think the stories are timeless and the art is absolutely beautiful and understated.

I happened to turn on cable tv and saw this title miss potter. I was curious and decided to watch the movie. Much to my suprise, i watching the story of an author who was a part of my childhood. I never paid attention to the author of the book 'peter rabbit'. I was so touched by the fact that this was a book i used to love to read growing up as a child. Of course it brought back many sweet memories and a time in life that many people have seperated from. I have decided to purchase all of her books for myself because i always enjoyed the pictures in the book. I would like to say that i am now 58 years old and i am so happy to see these books are still available. I feel that all the old books bring people back to there real selves again when there was peace around your mind. Thanks for being there. Bessie wilson, philadelphia, pa

I'm in the 4th grade, and I did a skit of this. This book is about a rabbit named Peter. Peter disobeys his mother while telling him not to go to Mr. Mcgregor's garden because his father was put in a pie. But, he still went and was trapped in their. He eats a lot of veggies, but gets sick, so he gets some parsley. Then he spots Mr. McGregor planting. He runs away but gets caught and sparrows come and tell him that he isn't trying hard enough to get out of the net and escapes but leaves his jacket behind. I think that this is a really great book. I hope young readers like me would read this.

We have this book as a hard copy but when I saw it for the NOOK I "scooped" it up! My daughter loves the story and she gets a kick out of reading on mommy's "computer".

I absolutely love the story of Peter Rabbit. Now my kids get to love it as much as I do! At night I get so busy with putting down kids that I can give my Nook to my 5 year old and she gets to hear Peter Rabbit via read to me. Love my new nook, but better yet love the classic tale of Peter Rabbit being told on it.

Outstanding childhood favorite is available with Nook Kids Read to Me!! My grandchildren ages 6 and 5 love being able to read a book by themselves with the Read to Me feature! The story of Peter Rabbit was as enjoyable to them now as it was to me when I was a child. They have read it over & over! I highly recommend this book!

This book was about a little rabbit named Peter. He loved to be adventurous. One day Peter was playing, and he went into a garden and a man chased him out. The man tried to kill him, but you will need to read the book to find out if he gets killed.

If you dont mind the text being poorly formatted then it is a nice tale. However, I feel that this book was not edited properly.

This story is the sweet little classic we all know and love, BUT, the formatting is not at all as advertised. I expected that the artwork would be juxtaposed with the associated text, but there were quite a few pages of mainly whitespace with a few sentences - obviously the second page of the original two-page book version layout, with nothing special done with the formatting. I wouldn't have made the purchase had I known that.
