Yet another volume from Sony Music Special Products using this title, this is a handy collection. "Under a Blanket of Blue," by Glen Gray & His Orchestra with Kenny Sargent singing, is a beguiling opening ballad, before the collection cuts back to Benny Goodman's ubiquitous "Let's Dance." Mildred Bailey is represented on "I Thought About You" with the Goodman band. Harry James' "Ciribiribin" is one of the hits represented in its familiar rendition, and "Beat Me Daddy (Eight to the Bar)" is present in its outstanding five-minute version by Will Bradley & His Orchestra, with Ray McKinley and Freddie Slack. Anita O'Day shows up in tandem with Gene Krupa & His Orchestra on "Let's Get Away From It All," and Doris Day is featured on "Sentimental Journey." On the sweet side of swing, listeners get the lusciously moody "Snowfall" by Claude Thornhill & His Orchestra, as well as Harry James' "You Made Me Love You." There are no notes, which isn't surprising for the budget price, but the disc offers decent early- to mid-'90s mastering, a step up from Sony's work in the 1980s.
