As a resident of the south and an avid pseudo-vegetarian, I adored this take on vegan southern style home cooking. Not only was it a refreshing change of pace from the average vegan cookbooks that are all about substitution-substitution-substitution, it provided an alternative that's full-flavored, full-fat, full-enjoyable, and with practical ingredients you already have in the cupboard. This isn't a diet cookbook--this is your grandma's kitchen, but vegan style. I'm not a great cook by any stretch of the imagination, but thanks to this cookbook I can make a mean jalapeno hush puppy and can you name a single individual in the world (or the south) who wouldn't want one of those at a party, family gathering, or any event ever? Supplying vegan alternatives to meat-eaters doesn't have to be a daunting task--it's as easy as spicy fried cauliflower, sweet potato hummus, and a chickpea "crab" cake recipe that looks as easy as it is tasty. Her fried green tomatoes recipe will keep me up at night thinking about it until I actually make it. It's in the works for next week. Speaking of the "her", Jenne Claiborne is a revelation and her YouTube channel is amazing. Not only are the recipes great, but the book itself is pretty, minimalist, and full of beautiful pictures of Jenne holding her creations. This is a great cookbook for any chef, vegan, vegetarian or otherwise.
