i can’t get enough of this series. And I love ones like this where each new book brings forth some secondary characters, letting their stars shine. Double tough women in danger, alpha men with soft spots for their women and animals, dogs that risk their lives for their humans yet also get up to fun antics, makes this a golden series for me. It’s new danger, new romance, and the suspense keeps the plot edgy and fast. In fact, I’d say this one had the most thrilling scenes yet. When I wasn’t anxious for the safety of the characters, I was tickled by the blooming romance, the snappy, sometimes snarky dialogue, and the antics of the dogs and one crazy goat. I can’t decide who I love more. Katie’s human character’s or her canine ones. Good thing I can love them all! Still an addictive series and one I very much recommend. Callie Beaulieu did another super job narrating this story. Her vocalizations of the characters are familiar and something I’ve come to look forward to. It was a pleasure to listen to her and I’m happy she will be continuing with this series.

Survive the Night was perfect. The story starts off on a suspenseful note. You can tell that Alice has been abused just about her entire life. She lives under the ruling thumb of her brother, someone who deals in shady stuff. You’d think that because she has a bodyguard assigned to her, that she’d be safe. Except, the bodyguard is more of a prison guard and he doesn’t care if he has to use force to get her to do what her brother wants. Needless to say, right from the start you are afraid for Alice. So, when her grand escape takes place, I was on the edge of my seat hoping that she got away. Thankfully she does and her contact sends her to the middle of nowhere Colorado to live with Jules and Grace, two other women this contact has helped escape from a nightmare of a life. You’d think it would be pretty quiet from there on out but not even a quarter of the way in, the author tosses some pretty intense scenes at the characters. Basically, I was on pins and needles right from the start. Survive the Night was perfect. I loved every minute of it. The characters were lovable, there were animals galore, and so much suspense that my heart was racing almost the entire time. Usually I like my main characters to have some sassy snark, but I absolutely loved the shyness between these two characters and how awkward they were when they interacted. Now, I know I loved Run to Ground, the first book in the series, but I dare say that this book exceeded that one. I mean, there’s a part in the book where things are dicey and Sarah wrangles up Otto’s rag-tag group of animals and leads them to safety, and we’re not talking about a simple cat and dog. Oh no! She managed to get a seriously spooked horse to trust her, a sassy goat to follow her begrudgingly through the snow, and a beaten down, terrified, rescued bait dog, to trust her in order to get them out of danger. That scene the author describes of her riding the horse with the dogs and goat following her through the snow storm… goosebumps!

An exciting addition to the Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit series! You'll see several familiar faces in this story if you've been reading this series by Katie Ruggle. The extended characters are a fun group of colleagues and friends who have formed their own little family of wayward souls who they will protect no matter what. When we first see Otto and Sarah together, we know there's going to be something there because he's treating her differently than he ever has anyone previously. It's a fun connection to watch develop. It was a little rushed because danger arrived quickly in their relationship, but it was an enjoyable read! K-9 Officer Otto Gunnersen loves his little piece of heaven in small town Monroe, Colorado. He has a great group of friends, a job he loves, and he's as content as he's ever been in life ... and then he lays eyes on the new woman in town and realizes all that he's been missing! He'd do anything to make her his, and will lay down his life to keep her safe when danger comes knocking! Sarah Clifton would be thrilled if the simple things in life that she's enjoying here in Monroe could become a reality for her, but her past is chasing at her heels faster than she can turn around. All that she wants is to get away from her crime family and the feuding life they constantly lead ... but is thinking a future could ever include a bit of happiness too much to ask?

Sarah lived an absolutely horrifying life before a slightly shady acquaintance helps her flee.  Said contact, who also helped both Jules & Grace (from the first two books), gets her hidden … unfortunately her brother has a big reach and she doesn’t stay hidden for long.  At that point the shenanigans begin.  And what action-packed shenanigans they are!  Luckily for Sarah she has Otto, along with Theo & Hugh, on her side.  And there’s not much that those guys can’t handle.    Some of Otto’s development and back-story might have been rushed a little bit, what with all the bad guys trying to get them.  But we do get a little glimpse of what made him such a gentle giant, with a big heart and a huge protective streak.  And it takes him all of about half a second to decide he wanted to give all his love and protection to Sarah.  He’ll take on just about anything to keep her safe and in his arms.  And he might have to.  I will admit that I was a little sad that the romance wasn’t as detailed as the action portion of this one.  It seemed to me that Ruggle balanced them a little bit better in the first two books … but man did she deliver an edge of your seat thrill ride with Otto & Sarah’s story.  I found myself glued to the pages and wanting to read just a little bit more, no matter how late it got.  That last third just about gave me an ulcer from all of the stress!  If you are looking for an exciting read, this one definitely cranks things up.    (While technically this one can stand on its own it does tie in to the first two stories.  Both Jules and Grace’s pasts come back into play and is tied in, well & logically, with Sarah’s.) *** I voluntarily read a Review Copy of this book. All opinions stated are solely my own and no one else’s. ***

Survive the Night is the third book in Katie Ruggle’s Rocky Mountain K9 Unit Series. It can be read as a stand alone but there will be a few references that will make more sense if you read the other books first. I have read them all and I loved them. The guys in the K9 unit are just like brothers. They tease each other constantly and would die for each other. If anyone threatens someone in their inner circle, these guys will go to great lengths to keep them safe. In this particular book, the whole small town ends up under seige in the worst way. Of all the books, Survive the Night has the most action and I really felt like it was a culmination of everything that happened before. This time, a third woman shows up in the small town of Monroe with a secret. Her name is Sarah and she is on the run from her abusive, criminal brother who is trying to marry her off to a member of another crime family. Sarah has been a prisoner of her brother for most of her adult life and it’s very interesting how she reacts to her new freedom. She quickly falls for the last available K9 Cop whose name is Otto Gunnersen. His friends describe him as a Viking Lumberjack as well as an animal whisperer. In essence, he is a gentle giant who has a way with animals but isn’t that good with people. They are immediately drawn to each other and it’s easy to see that they are meant to be together. Consequently, when everything goes to crap and Sarah’s life is in danger, Otto doesn’t hold back. The action is intense and epic as the entire town almost goes up in flames. The police, the town, a few canines, and a timid horse band together to save the day. I continue to be a Katie Ruggle fan. She does a great job of highlighting the relationship between the police and their canine counterparts. I also like the fact that the love story is somewhat realistic and doesn’t seem forced. All the characters seem to play well off of each other and I couldn’t help but root for their success. There is definitely a serious tone to the book but the author still manages to lighten up the mood when needed. I look forward to the next book in the series. I’m sure that I won’t be disappointed. **Received a copy from the publisher and voluntarily reviewed.**

Another Action Packed, hottie filled page turner from Katie Ruggle! My Review: I received this book via Netgalley, the following is my honest opinion. I have been an avid Katie Ruggle fan and will continue to consume all of her books. I have really enjoyed this series so far and of course jumped at the opportunity to read the next book in this series. I must say that Ruggle does an outstanding job of writing the male heroes that capture my heart, the silent and intimidating yet marshmallow and cuddly inside type of guys. I absolutely adored Otto and his soft way with the animals. I must say though that Sarah didn't really appeal to me, I prefer my female characters to have a little more spine, but near the end when her love of animals really comes out she did really win me over too. I did really like that the romance really took a step back in this book and the action came to the forefront, there is still the romance and a bit of steam but with everything else going on I am glad it didn't take over the book. I also love the twist at the end, it was starting to sound like the series was ending here but we got one more little shock to keep it going. Only 6 more months to wait! My Rating: This one had some ups and downs for me, I adore Otto (though he can't beat George from the previous season) but I wasn't a huge fan of Sarah until she actually did something. It was also very action packed, which I am okay with but it just didn't seem like that much was really feasible. I still give it a rating of a solid Four Paws! Also note, when are we going to see a doberman?! Poor Niko is getting a bit of a complex.

OMG, Otto. I'm not sure I have words enough to explain the awesomeness that is Otto. I mean, the guy took out a wall to make a double-wide stall to accommodate the rescue horse and rescue goat who wanted to be roomies--how can you not love this guy? Survive the Night is the third book in the Rocky Mountain K9 Unit, and though it could be read as a standalone--a new couple, Otto and Alice/Sarah are featured, and Sarah is introduced here--there are some overarching plot threads that tie all the stories together and that look to be coming to a head in a future book if the epilogue is to be believed. No worries, though, you could start here and still have books 1 and 2 read before that happens ;) This is one book that absolutely lives up to its title--the last third or so of the book takes place during one adrenaline-filled, pulse-pounding, edge-of-your-seat night; don't get that far unless you're prepared to do nothing but read until you're finished, because you won't be able to put it down! Sarah and Otto make a great team and a fantastic couple, and with the help of the rest of the series regulars kick some series bad guy butt--So. Much. Fun! Rating: 4 1/2 stars / A- I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Survive the Night by Katie Ruggle is the 3rd book in her Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit series. I enjoyed the first two books in this series, and I thought this one was even more exciting. The theme of this series is a woman is helped to escape her terrible life, and sent to a small town in the Colorado Mountains, to live in hiding. Sarah Clifton, our heroine, is on the run after a mind-blowing escape from her bad brother, who wants her to marry an evil mobster leader. She ends up living under a fake name, with the two previous heroines. The story was very suspenseful from the start to finish, with a lot of action all the way through. The last ¼ of the book had me holding my breath, as Sarah’s life was on the line twice and no one knew where she was. Sarah was a fantastic heroine, who managed to fight her way out of terrible conditions to help her new friends, and animals, as well as herself for survival. K9 Officer Otto Gunnersen, is a sweet gentle giant, who also takes care of animals. He works with Theo and Huge on the K-9 Unit, and envies that they have found their mates; something he does not see happening to him. Otto meet Sarah. The moment he sets eyes on her, at the house that the other girls and their family live in, he is hooked. He is very shy, and in a short time Sarah takes a liking to him. Since Otto lives in a bunker style house, with safe rooms, and tunnels, Sarah agrees to move in with him. The romance doesn’t take long to heat up, as both have not had relationships previously. They were really so good together, and I loved the addition of the two dogs, cat, horse and goat. There romance was so sweet, you couldn’t help rooting for them; and Otto was wonderful and protective with her. As usual, Theo and Huge know that Sarah is running away, like their girls, but to get information on the man who helped them run away was not forthcoming. However, Sarah will tell them about Aaron (brother) and Logan ( her forced fiancée), and how dangerous they are. The previous books were exciting, but I thought Survive the Night was pulse pounding action right from the start. In a short time after Sarah arrives, Aaron will find her to try to bring her back. She manages to escape and the guys arrest him. What follows is an intense, wild adventure that will put all of them in danger, as the villains will bring all their resources to the small town to prevent them from getting help. This was so exciting that held me on the edge of my seat with so much action. Sarah turned out to be a big lifesaver, especially with the animals. Survive the Night is another suspenseful, action packed story, and I can’t wait for the next book in this series. Katie Ruggle has written a great story, wonderful couple, and exciting action packed throughout. I suggest you read this series and start with the first book, Run to Ground.

Review: SURVIVE THE NIGHT by Katie Ruggle Publication Date: February 6, 2018 Genre: Romantic Suspense Reviewed by: Reading in Pajamas/ Donna Rated 5 Stars I loved it. The action was an adrenaline rush from the start, intermixed with a sweet romance between to very likeable characters. Otto is a mountain of a man with a heart of gold, and Alice/Sarah was the lovely woman needing that heart. I liked how she worked hard to find her strength despite the terror stalking her. Did the action get a bit flamboyant at times? Heck yes – and it was a fun ride. Pulse-pumping and romantic all blended together. This is a great series. *Review copy provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

oh my! I have a new favorite author! I cannot tell you how much I loved this book and this series! You don't have to have read the previous books to totally enjoy this book. I love any story that has an animal in it but combine animals and police officers and I am there. Great read!

This is the third in a series, while each book follows a different woman the previous characters are heavily present so it is advisable, but not necessary, to read the previous books. I have only read the first book before this one but I recognised the characters. Alice Blanchett is the daughter and sister of crime bosses. Effectively a prisoner in her own home, an asset to be sold off to a rival crime family as a wife for the prodigal son, Logan Jovanovic, until a mysterious note warns her to be prepared to escape. Some time later Alice is rescued by one of her brother's henchmen and sent, via secret ways by the mysterious Mr Espina to the small town of Monroe, Colorado as yet another "old friend" of Jules under the alias Sarah Clifton. Jules was Mr Espina's first rescue and there is a theme to the women he rescues, they are all connected in some way with the Jovanovic family. K9 Officer Otto Gunnersen does not, in my mind, look anything like the picture on the front of the book, Sarah describes him as a cross between a viking and a lumberjack, and one of his best friends describes him as a Ninja Paul Bunyan. Anyway, he is one of a trio of friends in the Monroe Police department: Theo and Jules are a couple and Hugh and Grace (the couple from the second book) are also a couple. Otto is a big, strong, silent man, he lives alone outside of town and rescues animals that no-one else will take. When he meets Alice/Sarah it is insta-lurve, he is struck dumb. Unfortunately, the overwhelming impression I got, at least from the first half of the book, was that Otto was a little simple. Maybe because he was slow to speak, big and lumbering, good with animals? Anyway, its not too long until Sarah's brother and future husband find her in Monroe and try to take her back to Texas. What follows is a tense cat and mouse game through the snow with helicopters and bombs and all sorts. Unfortunately, I have very little visualisation ability and frankly I was lost. One minute Sarah is nine miles from town down a deserted road, the next she seems to be bumping into the townsfolk left, right and centre. Everyone appeared to be a suspect and gathers in one place for a finale that was both thrilling and confusing (because of the visualisation thing again). Overall, while I still enjoyed the book my credulity was stretched pretty thin. This is supposedly a small town yet it appears to have a large police force, the majority of whom have been sent off on a special training course, leaving just our three intrepid friends. Why draw attention to strangers by having three fugitives move to the town in a short period of time? I though that this was the final book in the series but the ending (and indeed NetGalley) suggests there is another to come. Not sure the premise can hold out for another book. I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in return for an honest review.

I love the characters that live in Monroe, Colorado and had such high hopes for the big, quiet man that is Otto. Described as a cross between a Viking, a lumberjack and a ninja this gentle soul seemed almost like a candidate for my favourite fantasy man ( that's still George in Gone Too Deep by the way ). Unfortunately I just didn't really fall for him as initially he seemed so very tongue tied and shy that honestly it was embarrassing ! He's this tough mountain man and a police officer to boot so you can possibly understand my disappointment. Otto is matched by Sarah and like Otto she's not exactly the most confident or worldly. She's spent her life bullied by her family so I had sympathy but honestly their interactions to me just felt well odd . It's a romance that didn't work for me but nevertheless I did actually enjoy the story although it was a little drawn out and had me rolling my eyes as at times it was difficult to actually believe all that was taking place. Still I do enjoy these books and even though this pairing of a socially awkward couple failed to set the pages on fire I'm definitely on board to read more. Plus if you love cuteness there's plenty of that with sneaky , slightly mischievous children and adorable animals. So not my favourite from this author but still an entertaining read . This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

I thought that this book was very well done. This is the third book in the Rocky Mountain K9 Unit series and I do believe that it would work best for reader that have read the preceding novels since events from earlier books do come into play in this one. This book had a lot of action and I found that I didn't want to stop reading once I started. This book was just a lot of fun to read. This book features Otto and Sarah. Sarah has lived a life controlled by others. She is given no choices and is physically abused often. When she gets a chance to start a new life, she jumps at the chance and ends up rooming with Jules and Grace from previous books. Otto is an officer with the local police force. He is quiet and extremely kind. He has a soft spot for animals and is known to take in those needing a home. I liked Otto and Sarah together and thought that they had a lot in common. They are instantly attracted to each other but they don't seem quite sure how to deal with it at the start. Otto seems to be what Sarah needs and is there when needed. He has a quiet calmness that Sarah seems to need. When Sarah needs to be rescued, Otto is there to help. They really seemed to compliment each other very well. The books in this series have all had a lot of action but I think that this one takes things to a whole new level. There are several very exciting scenes that really had me nervous for the characters. I liked that the characters from the prior books all play key roles in this book and get in on the action as well. The animals in this book were great. Any book that can work a few animals into the story get a few bonus points from me and this one had quite the menagerie playing the part. I only had a couple of very minor complaints. I thought that Sarah recovered from the years of abuse a lot quicker than I would have thought possible. I also would have liked to see a bit more regarding Otto's history. There is a quick mention of his past that really made me want more. I would have liked to see them both work through their issues from the past together. I would recommend this book to others. This was a really exciting book that was a whole lot of fun to read. I can't wait to read more of this wonderful series! I received an advance reader edition of this book from Sourcebooks Casablanca via Edelweiss.

The recurring theme in this series keeps going back to Jules in book one. While you can probably read this as a standalone, you are going to be jumping into the middle of the overall plot and it could cause some confusion. In book one, Jules needed to save her siblings from her evil stepmom. She kidnaps them and has a contact, Mr. Espina create a whole new identity for them all and moves them to a new location where she falls in love with Theo, a cop. Theo and his partner, Hugh know Jules is hiding something, but Theo is so in love with her, he decides to not look into her past. At the end of each book, Jules gets a call from Mr. Espina to let her know he's sending someone to her that needs to start over just like she did. In book 2, it was Grace. During Grace and Hugh's book, they do learn Grace's true identity and that she is running from a family named the Jovanovics after witnessing something horrible. Jules and her siblings still remain quiet about why they left because Jules does not want Theo to be an accomplice if they are found out. In this book, Mr. Espina sends Sarah to Jules. Sarah is the sister to a criminal family. Her brother Aaron is abusive and is about to sell her off to a Jovanovic. Theo, Hugh and now Otto are leary of anyone coming to Jules because they know they are hiding from a past. Theo and Hugh designate Otto to interrogate Sarah to find out who she is hiding from, except he takes one look at her and goes tongue tied. A lot of progress was made in this book. We learn that Grace and Sarah are both hiding from the Jovanovics. Sarah's truth comes out very early in this book but what surprised me was Jules finally confessed to Theo, Hugh and Otto that she kidnapped the kids and why. With everyone's true story out, I thought that would mean this was the last book and everything was going to come together. Instead, this book ended with a hint that the next book is circling back to Jules and the kids. There was no call from Mr. Espina about another woman needing to visit. I'm extremely curious how this is going to play out and if there will be new characters. This has been a very entertaining series so I'll be anxiously waiting for the next book. This story was so full of fire that it almost ignited my reader! Finally we get K9 Officer Otto Gunnersen to star in his own tale, the man has always fascinated me ever since this Rocky Mountain K9 Unit series started. It was not only well worth the wait but totally in keeping with his characters laid back personality. Of course we find that Otto may be a gentle giant but he is no pushover when it comes to protecting someone he cares about. Sarah Clifton came to Monroe Colorado for the same reason Jules and Grace did before her, looking for a safe place to catch her breath and escape her past life before it is too late to get out of it. She had no intention on staying longer than a few months in the small town, she just needed time to stand on her own to feet and learn how to survive on her own. Funny how plans go by the wayside when one least expects it isn't it. If had to pick a favorite amongst the heroes of this wonderful series it would be Otto Gunnersen, he just stands out as a wonderful friend to both animals and humans. A man who would go that extra mile for those he considers in his care, including the entire town of fictional Monroe Colorado. Sarah starts out as someone who is almost afraid of her shadow, it is a nice change as the story unfolds to see the strong woman emerge from her shell and take charge of her own life in every respect that counts. Together these two work, even though they are both soft spoken that big stick comes out when needed and it at times is even comical to see just how much of a force each one can be to everyone else but each other. By the end of this read it has become my favorite so far of all the books that I have read by this author. For a while I was struggling to reacquaint myself with the others who had come before in first two books but from the get go never felt totally confused as this story unfolded because it immediately captured me and drew me into the action. Survive the Night by Katie Ruggle Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit #3 Captive of her family since childhood Alice Blanchett can hardly believe there is someone willing to help her escape her prison. When it finally happens there is a mad dash to freedom that sees her settled into Monroe, Colorado with two other women Mr. Espina has rescued in the past. Living with Jules and her siblings is a breath of fresh air and having friends in Jules and Grace a delight and blessing. The women have beaus and those beaus have a friend named Otto and of course Otto and Alice – renamed Sarah – will be attracted to one another. And, the beaus are police officers with K-9 partners – that only adds to the story. The first time Otto sees Sarah he is speechless and so is she. Feeling awkward but interested they hope that their next encounter will go better. Well, their next meeting is over dueling elk and a wee bit easier. The third…awkward again…but…the attraction persists and when Sarah is found by her despicable brother and the man he wants her to marry things begin to heat up in more ways than one. This is an action-packed suspense-filled romance with main characters that charmed me. Huge Otto and tiny Sarah are perfect for one another and oh so sweet together. Otto’s rescued animals are a delight and the finale stupendous…if perhaps a bit unbelievable. Two deserving but shy people find love unexpectedly and grab it with both hands in a book I could not put down. There is a lead into book four that makes me think the evil stepmother from Jules and her siblings lives may make another appearance – hope she gets her comeuppance. I did not read book two, somehow missed it, and didn’t need it to thoroughly enjoy this story. Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for the ARC – This is my honest review. 5 Stars

Otto gets book! K9 Officer Otto Gunnersen is a tall Viking god with a hard body and a soft heart. Both come in handy when he meets Sarah Clifton. He is utterly gobsmacked. Not something we see often with Otto. This story sees Sarah escape a horrid situation in Texas to end up in small town Monroe, Colorado. The town will never be the same again. This story is as action packed as any movie. Prepare time to read this because once you pick it up it will be impossible to put down. Romantic suspense at its finest. My favorite of the series to date.

Sluggish, scenes are too long. Too much soul searching. There should be more action.
