Overview

Meet Amelia Louise McBride. She’s been forced to move out of Manhattan after her parents decided to get divorced, and is now living in a small town (who cares which one) with her mom and her aunt, Tanner. Not to mention the fact that she’s dealing with being the new kid in school, many trips to the principal’s office, first kisses, etc. But you know what? She’s got her friends Reggie, Rhonda, and Pajamaman, and everything’s going to be okay. Except, of course, when it isn’t.

In Book 3, the members of G.A.S.P. (Gathering of Awesome Super Pals) embrace their inner superheroes, even if it means wearing underwear over their pants.

This comic series has a lot of heart and I'm definitely digging it.

Volume one is still my favorite in the Amelia Rules! series, but this is still a really fun book. Gownley applies and displays such a range of talent here -- a story that can be appreciated by kids right up through adults, nice drawings, skillful use of the comics format, fabulous dialog. I can't wait for the next installment!

It's summer vacation, and Amelia is afraid that she'll have to move again. Then she discovers that her new friend Trish has a deadly disease. Meanwhile the members of G.A.S.P. (Gathering of Awesome Super Pals) and the Park View Terrace Ninja unite against the evil Legion of Steves.

A graphic novel for the upper elementary grades. In the third installment Amelia's aunt Tanner moves to the other side of town. Here Amelia meets some new friends who work as super heroes to vanquish the Evil Legion of Steves. Classroom connection: This would work well as a free read choice in an upper elementary classroom. It could also be used to introduce the graphic novel genre.
