‘Hooked from the first page and in the end I was really sad when I had to say goodbye … So I just have one word to sum it all up: AMAZING!!!’ Sky’s Book Corner
Life is better with sand between your toes.
For Emily Tate, returning to her charming childhood home Oyster Bay is like coming up for air after the fast pace of her city life. At the farm her grandfather built, surrounded by sister Rachel’s chatter, Gram’s butter biscuits and the soft, white sand, Emily is reminded exactly who she is and what she holds most dear.
When Emily starts work at elegant Water’s Edge Inn, Charles Peterson, the handsome new owner, asks for her help. He wants to expand and needs Emily to teach him the local ways, so he can convince the planning commission. Emily vows to make him fall in love with her hometown, just the way it is.
At work, Charles is reserved and serious, yet once Emily has him kicking off his shoes in the sand and sailing across glistening Chesapeake Bay, she sees another side to him, and their easy rapport feels like the start of something big.
But when it becomes clear Charles’s plans for the inn involve bulldozing Oyster Bay, Emily is heartbroken. Will she lose her home and Charles all at once, or can she save Oyster Bay, and give true love a chance?
Summer at Oyster Bay is the perfect, feel-good summer romance, about the importance of home and family, learning what love is, and living for the moment.

Don't read this review, just read this brilliant book! This book should really come with a warning to make sure readers have a box of tissues at the ready! It is an emotively written, delightful read that takes the reader through the whole gamut of emotions before attaining that elusive but desired HEA. Emily Tate is returning to her childhood home after three years of city living that just showed her how wrong the city is for her. She’s staying in the home her Grandfather built, the home she grew up after the tragic death of her parents, the home that is packed with happy childhood memories, set in an idyllic location. She’s starting a new job as Events manager in the Water’s Edge Inn which has recently been taken over by Charles Peterson. He has plans to expand the Inn, plans she things are good till she discovers the cost - he intends destroying the very home she’s returned to. As their attraction builds, their different upbringings and expectations are highlighted, tearing them apart. Can they love each other whilst at the same time destroying each other’s dreams? There are many subplots interwoven into this brilliantly crafted novel. There is a theme of one person’s dreams being another’s nightmare throughout the story for many of the characters. Gram’s plans upset her grand daughters, Rachel’s is in danger of destroying her marriage to Jeff whilst those of Charile and Emily are so divergent they’re likely to stop any potential romance for them. All the characters are complex with believable flaws that make them human and easy to empathise with. The author has the reader giggling at some of the antics, tearful at others, hanging on and page turning in the desperate hope of a happy resolution for the characters you’ve grown to know and love through the story. The ending is absolutely fantastic, I loved this book and will definitely be remembering and revisiting it in future. Jenny Hale is a supremely accomplished and highly talented author, I can’t wait to read more from her in future! Thanks to the author, publishers and NetGalley, too, for letting me read this in exchange for my honest review.
