There must be something in the water as I’ve read three books in quick succession that all deal with loss, grief and a new path to happiness. And in this, Jenny Hale has created a unique twist on the ‘message from the departed’ story with a series of five tasks set out to Hallie to receive her own inheritance. But there are more things to be uncovered and discovered in this family – from Aunt Clara’s husband Hank is suffering the loss of his purpose. In an effort to help Hank, and themselves, Hallie, her mother, sister and her young son all converge on Firefly Beach to stay at Hank and Clara’s house. There’s one addition, Hallie’s best friend Ben, now working as a music producer, who comes along -more a member of the family, always playing with Hallie’s nephew, and a constant source of support and understanding for Hallie. But he’s also been in love with Hallie for forever, watching her date series of boys, being there when she and her fiancé were planning their wedding, and never really moving along toward his own life. This was so special – with the list Hallie had made when she was twelve that encompassed her life goals – from building a sandcastle to living somewhere else, to kissing a boy she loves…. All in an attempt to get Hallie to let go and find her joy – a joy that she used to have when taking photos. For Aunt Clara was a renown designer, and she and Hallie are very similar: creative, imaginative and able to find the beauty in small and large moments. With her list feeling stifling, and not really sure of what step to take next as she’s got a secret she can’t get past, she finds Gavin, a well-known photographer and owner of a local gallery – who is interested in her photography, dealing with his own grief and is willing to teach Hallie how to edit and frame her photos. A match made for Hallie’s slow increase in confidence in both her photos and her ability to make a wholesale change in her life. Bringing Ben and Hallie together takes a bit more work and time, as does discovering the ‘trespasser’ who has caused Uncle Hank so many sleepless nights. With Hallie starting to find her way through her pre-teen bucket list, and everyone seeming to find the magic of Firefly beach working its miracle, the story has many moments of true grief, laughter, caring and love. Most of all love. The story is a wonderful escape into a ‘find a path with some not always gentle’ nudges, plenty of family support and the ability to dream and create being set free. A great summer read for when you want something different and quite unique, that reinforces the power of love to overcome most everything. I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

I thought that this was a sweet friends-to-lovers romance. The beginning seemed a little bit jumbled as it felt like the author tried to cram a lot of introduction into a short space, but once Hallie made it to Firefly Beach, everything slowed down and the plot became more relaxed – not unlike spending a vacation at the shore. I liked how Hallie’s past (and the secret she held inside) shaped her decisions, but I also liked how her Aunt Clara seemed to know Hallie better than she knew herself (at least in some ways). The bucket list that Aunt Clara left for Hallie proved this (which was a clever twist). The message I got was that people who know us best can still be there for us, even after they are gone. This would be a great beach read for the summer. Thank you to Bookouture (via NetGalley) for a complimentary pre-release digital ARC of this book.

I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. This is a feel good, make you smile and cry, romance novel. I enjoyed both the characters and the story. Ben and Hallie have been friends forever, with Ben being a huge part of her family. Over the years both have dated other people and had long relationships. When Hallie's favorite Aunt Clara dies, her family gathers at her aunt and uncle's house to show support to Uncle Hank. Aunt Clara has left letters and an inheritance for each member of the family, but Hallie's letter is actually a list of things Hallie must accomplish before receiving her inheritance. It is the journey of completing the list Aunt Clara left her that leads Hallie on a path that will change her life forever.

****Summer at Firefly Beach. Hallie is consumed with grief when her great aunt Clara passes and is also very confused about her inheritance. While the rest of the family got their inheritances immediately, Hallie is tasked with completing the items on a bucket list composed when she was 12. Six months into her grief she and her family go to visit Uncle Hank, himself still struggling with his new widowhood. Childhood friend Ben, always Hallie’s rock and support also makes the trip. Hallie finds her uncle to be a shadow of his formerly strong self and the cottage he shared with Clara in disrepair. Can either of these two find the strength needed to survive and will Hallie ever get her inheritance? Jenny Hale is a new author to me and while I found her very adept at descriptive phrases, I felt she overplayed the grief angle...repetitively. Turns out Hallie’s pain also has another cause that may have her turning away from her true place. One of her bucket list items was to have a wish come true, but which wish might that be? As Hallie comments, she has made lots of wishes and none have ever come true. Overall this was a good story with interesting characters and some surprises along the way. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book that I received from NetGalley.

I received this book in exchange for my honest review. Thank you Netgalley. The book has a little bit of everything as far as emotions. Grief, forgiveness, love... This was a sweet second change/childhood sweetheart romance. The setting of the beach town in the story made me want to climb into the book and settle in there.

This was a well-written, heartwarming story. I could visualize the long, lovely summer days the family used to spend at Firefly Beach, especially at Hallie's favorite place: her Aunt Clara's beachside house. The family has gathered here again, but now they are mourning Aunt Clara's passing. Hallie's best friend, Ben, is here too, and Hallie loves having someone she can talk to about everything that is going on. Aunt Clara left Hallie the bucket list Hallie wrote as a child, with instructions to fulfill it. The characters in this book were wonderful and I enjoyed reading it. I highly recommend this book to others and I look forward to reading more books by this author.

Summer at Firefly Beach by author Jenny Hale is a delightful story about family, forgiveness, and going toward your dreams! Hallie's beloved Great-Aunt Clara has died and the family is going to her expansive home at Firefly Beach to try and cheer up Uncle Hank and make sure he is well. Hallie also has the challenge to fulfill items on a list of 'things to do' she had written when she was twelve. He aunt had found the list years ago and included it with a letter to Hallie before she died. Her aunt left instructions for Hallie to fulfill each wish on the list before she receives her inheritance. This is a very pleasant feel-good romance! Enjoy!

A nice light hearted summer read set at the beach. Hallie and Ben have been best friends their whole lives and spent many summers on Firefly Beach. This summer they return to follow through on the final wishes of Hallie's aunt Clara revisiting their childhood memories and discovering feelings for each other.

Haillie Flynn has experienced a lot of loss in the past few months. Her marriage has recently ended in divorce, and her beloved Aunt Clara has died leaving her Uncle Hank alone at Firefly Beach. Haillie, her family and her best friend Ben make their annual summer trip to Firefly Beach to try and heal and spend time with Uncle Hank. Aunt Clara has left a final wish for Haillie - to complete the bucket list that Haillie wrote when she was twelve years old. I really enjoyed the sense of romance felt while reading this book and the overwhelming companionship of Haillie and Ben. The read is an easy one and ideal for a beach read. I thought the progression of Haillie's artistic career was a little too quick to be truly believable, but typical of this type of romance novel. I'd rate this book 3.5 /5 stars (rounded up to 4 stars). Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC in exchange for the honest review provided here.

Thanks go to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Why is it that we can’t see the potential in ourselves that is so obvious to others? We see the potential in others, but are blinded to our own potential. This is the situation in which Hallie finds herself as she works through the aftermath of Aunt Clara’s death. A thoroughly enjoyable read!

Jenny Hale's Summer at Firefly Beach seemed to be shrouded in grief and depression-like spanish moss hanging in the trees. Hallie Flynn has a good eye for photography and design but when it comes to seeing love staring her in the face she is definitely blind. She misses all the signs. Hallie's aunt has died and her mother, sister, nephew, and a friend have gone to Firefly beach to check on her uncle. This is a story of missing a loved one, forgiveness and putting yourself out there. Good book but has the potential to be so much more.

This is a wonderful book. The story is just as beautiful as the cover. I had never read any of Jenny Hale's books and didn't know what to expect, now I want to read all of her books! I would love to visit Firefly beach! Excellent summer read. Thank you Bookouture via NetGalley for the ARC copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.

Hallie comes home to Firefly Beach to help her uncle Hank after the death of his wife, her beloved Aunt Clara. She's surprised to find that Clara held to the bucket list she made when she was 12 and even more so that Clara challenged her to fulfill it. She's going to find out some family secrets along the way. AND, there's her childhood BFF Ben. It's a nicely done story of finding yourself. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A good summer read.

Hallie Flynn and her family gather at her favorite place ever. It is the home of her now deceased great Aunt Clara. The home is lovely and brings with it very warm memories to Hallie. She is devastated by the loss of her aunt. Aunt Clara has left inheritances to the family, which include Hallie's mother and sister. When it came to Hallie, however, instead of a sizable inheritance, she receives a letter that included a bucket list that Hallie wrote as a a child. Clara insists that Hallie complete that bucket list before she can receive anything. Some of the things on that list seem impossible. Hallie must take on some real challenges. Hallie has already made great strides, as she left her non-fulfilling job to go to Firefly Beach. Now, will she go further and actually strike out on her own with her incredible talent in photography? Will she kiss a boy she loves? Will she complete the bucket list before the summer is over? One person right by her side in life, ever since she was a child, is Ben Murray. They are best friends, incredibly close, and he is there with her now helping her to cope with her loss and to consider her bucket list. Meanwhile Hallie meets a painter named Gavin Wilson, and he turns her head and this really has a chance to change her future. If this happens, what of Ben and their close relationship? One thing about this book is the fact that Hallie has a secret. It is a devastating one and has shaped Hallie into the person she is today. Sharing this secret would take a lot, and the way Hallie handled it was done well in this book. I enjoyed all of the characters in this book, especially Hallie's uncle Hank. Her mother and sister were quite wonderful too, as was her nephew Robby. This book had an excellent family feel to it and I was drawn in from the very first page. I also enjoyed the romantic aspect of the book and how best friends had a chance at finding love, despite overwhelming challenges. This was quite an emotional read and will make for the perfect book to take along to the beach. Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC to review in exchange for my honest opinion.
