A 27-year-old woman returns home from the gym and her world changes forever when she nearly dies from a massive cerebellar stroke. Unbeknownst to her, Sara was taking combined estrogen and progesterone birth control medication while experiencing migraines with aura — a potentially lethal contraindication. Progesterone-only birth control is the safest to take.

After spending six months in rehab in California, she returns home to the great state of Wisconsin with her incredible and loving parents and continues rehab there. Sara remains patient, positive, and persistent in her fight back to overcome the effects of this devastating condition.

A must-read for anyone who has experienced a stroke, and for the loved ones who care for them.

Excellent book about survival, fierce determination, love and overcoming the odds. I found this book surprisingly emotional to read which I believe is a testament to the author's outstanding job relaying the details of her incredible journey to the reader. A great reminder to all to become our own advocate in the healthcare system as well. I highly recommend this book!

This book is remarkable in so many ways. It offers one of the clearest messages of hope and determination I've ever read. Sara Anderson's account of the disastrous effects of a massive stroke, which nearly took her life, is candid, honest, and amazingly positive. She faced total paralysis with a positive attitude and never thought of giving up! As she stated in several places in the book, she was determined to recover and to become her normal self once again. This book is really a must-read for anyone with severe illness or with a loved one who is struggling to overcome the odds. A 10 thumbs up!!
