This is the original soundtrack to the highly anticipated 2009 motion picture. From producer/director J.J. Abrams (Lost, Mission: Impossible: III, and Fringe) comes a new vision of the greatest space adventure of all time, Star Trek, featuring a young, new crew venturing boldly where no one has gone before. Starring Chris Pine as Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Simon Pegg as Scotty, with Eric Bana, Winona Ryder and Leonard Nimoy. Michael Giacchino, who has served as J.J. Abrams' musical lieutenant on all his projects, follows the extraordinarily rich musical legacy of Alexander Courage, Jerry Goldsmith, and James Horner, as he boards the Enterprise for her maiden voyage.

It easy to know how well this score works when you seen the movie, but apart from the film it is equally as compelling. Michael Giacchino has given Stat Trek a new sound that is independent from all previous musical incarnations - only the theme from the old TV show is used, and then it's only used at the end. This is film scoring in the John Williams vein full of catchy themes and wonderful counterpoint. Michael Giacchino has had one heck of a year in 2009 and the future only looks brighter! Sad that the Oscar winning score for Up never had a proper CD release.

I saw the movie this past weekend. I really liked this soundtrack and it re-tells the story right after you see the film.

I saw the movie the weekend after it came out, and I was blown away. It was wonderful to see elements from the series, and movies combined into something truly new. Being a fan of instrumental music, I completely loved Michael Giacchino's score, and it sounds just as good playing out of my car's audio system.

I am a soundtrack junkie and was so impressed by the music that I immediately went to purchase the cd when I left the movie theater. After searching desperately I found the last copy at the local B&N store. THANK GOD! The musicianship and style variety from smooth to harsh makes you feel like your right there next to Capt. Kirk or least wish you could be anyway. It makes you ready to fight the good fight. EXCELLENT MUSIC!!! I've already recommended it to everyone I know and hope that one day, as a brass player, I will get the joy getting to play the music myself.

I saw Star Trek three times, and have most of the soundtracks from their 11 movies. This soundtrack evokes many fond memories of the new movie, and makes me eager for the day when the film is available on DVD. Even the quirky names of the tracks symbolize how this Star Trek is more "cutting edge" than those that came before it. Even my kids (8 & 2) enjoy the music. Purchasing this soundtrack is the next logical step for anyone who wants more Trek!
