Ada and Harriet don't know what to expect when they meet their new guardian, Mr. Wolfson. Here is a strangely magnetic, darkly amusing man confined to a wheelchair and flanked by a pair of fierce, dangerous dogs—an enigmatic benefactor, at once welcoming and intimidating. Even more unsettling to the girls are Wolfson's two sons, Julian and Francis. One of them is warm and good-natured, the other is pure malevolence. But young Harriet is about to discover a frightening truth: that evil runs rampant throughout their mysterious new home, Abbey Manor, and the surrounding moors—especially when the moon comes out . . .

Barbara Michaels never disappoints, and here is another of her gothic victorian era novels. The characters are likeable, the plot is unique and keeps you wondering exactly what is going on throughout. A good , quick read for those who like suspense, mystery, and a bit of romance.

I'm rarely ever disappointed by Barbara Michaels, and this was no exception! A lovely mix of historical mystery, romance and a dash of paranormal. A good read!

Very Mary Stewart- ish i.e. "Touch Not the Cat" Nothing too unique but still a pretty awesome gothic romance.

The reviewer who stated this book is too short was incorrect. When I first purchased this book I was really upset thinking I'd purchased an abridged book that wasn't labeled a such. After looking to find if I could request a refund and finding B&N doesn't refund Nook books I flipped through the book and found that the pages aren't listed correctly. Several pages are listed as one page.

Eight bucks for 172 pages! What a rip off! I can't get free books on here with 1000 pages or more. I won't buy another single one of your books. I was hoping to select a nice book, settle down this afternoon and read late into the evening. With a whopping 172 pages, I guess now I have to spend the rest of my afternoon looking for another book. What a waste of eight dollars. Thanks!
