My only gripe is that "Bonnie Blue Flag" and "The Battle Cry of Freedom" are both conspicuous by their absence, but why nitpick?? I especially loved the renditions of "Lincoln and Liberty," "Give Us a Flag," and "Marching Through Georgia;" they all have inspiring messages of freedom and liberation. Now, to any Georgia residents out there, I hope my mention of that last song doesn't offend any sensitivies. I actually LOVE the present-day South, from having spent a sizable chunk of my military career there: stationed at Tyndall AFB (Panama City), FL, for two years, three TDYs to Maxwell AFB (Montgomery), AL, and two Thanksgivings in Moody AFB (Valdosta), GA. I certainly like the more-friendly gun laws and taxation policies of modern Dixieland than the present-day "Yankee" states, ESPECIALLY Illinois! But all the same, if I were living in 1861 as opposed to 2005, I'd still have fought for the Union, for the sake of (1) the slaves' liberation, and (2) my commissioning oath was to the UNITED States of America, not the Confederate States.

I bought this years ago in an obscure CD store, when there still were CD stores, and "Songs" has been the biggest contributor to my songlists since. I felt the choice of songs were excellant for what one could fit in this CD format. Contemporary artists like Judy Collins, Joan Baez, Hoyt Axton, Kathy Mattea, etc, and especially the McGarrigles really put their souls into these songs. If you loved the series, and like songs that get inside you and touch your soul, this CD is for you.
