When Case Thompson's eldest brother dies in a car accident, Case is shocked they chose him to shelter their daughter. A confirmed bachelor, he gives up his singles lifestyle, focusing on his own and Kaylie's grief and the family business Scruffy Boys Architectural Salvage. Months later, Merritt Morgan, his dead sister-in-law's twin comes to town wanting to get to know her sister's child.

Dr. Merritt Morgan regrets the gulf she allowed to grow between her and her twin sister Annie after their mother's death. Braving Case's scorn, Merritt must deal with the hot, earthy, risk-taking Case who now raises Annie's child. Against her father's wishes, she takes a leave of absence from her medical residency to grow closer to her twin's daughter. But she's unprepared for the way the handsome Case makes her feel and the memories of her sister.

Can they heal the wounds of the past and can Case learn to trust Merritt with his most prized possession, his dead brother's child?
