Its July 1st and my June 30th release of Jill Shalvis' Second Chance Summer has not changed its pre-ordered status on my Nook HD. I'm frustrated, but don't wish to harm Jill's book reviews so I gave it a five star rating. I have supreme confidence in her writing, hence the pre-order, that this book will be a hit as is her norm. Had to vent though as my list of authors whom I pre-order is a small, but distinguished list. Hope all the non-nook owners are enjoying it!

Contemporary romance at its finest! Jill Shalvis strikes gold with this new series full of humor, family and love. I love books with a second chance at first love. Lily is reeling from a disastrous betrayal from her last employer/lover and has come home to lick her wounds. Cedar Ridge is the LAST place she wants to be because it holds nothing but heartache and a past so devastating that it’s destroying Lily. When Aidan finds out that Lily Danville is coming back into town, he can’t stop thinking about how she left 10 years earlier and broke his heart in the process. Seeing Lily so defeated does something to Aidan and he just can’t seem to leave her alone despite all the reasons not to get involved with her. Lily doesn’t feel worthy of love or Aidan’s affections. She is harboring some serious guilt from her sister’s death. But Aidan is persistent in his pursuit of Lily and is slowly wearing down her resolve. Being in constant close proximity to each other, the flames of passion are reignited and the pair can’t seem to keep their hands off each other. Aidan is all in but Lily still can’t let the past go and claim her well-deserved happiness. This couple definitely has their work cut out for them. It was a beautiful love story that really tugged at my heartstrings. The characters are genuine, the plot is amazing, the dialogue was extremely funny and I laughed out loud through the entire book! The Kincaid family sure knows how to have a good time! They live for pranking each other, even their mom gets in on it. I absolutely LOVED them and their crazy antics! My favorite part of the book is the Kincaid family. I loved learning about them, the problems they face, and I admire their fierce loyalty and unbending strength. This family has steel in their spines and courage running through their veins. I can’t wait to read more about the people of Cedar Ridge! This is by far my favorite Jill Shalvis book and is easily one of the best books of 2015! I recommend SECOND CHANCE SUMMER to everyone! ***I was gifted an eBook copy from the publisher via Net Galley in exchange for an honest review. All conclusions reached are my own***

Aidan Kincaid and Lily Danville are two souls destined for one another. Lily has been away from Cedar Ridge for a long time, but within minutes of being back she runs into her ex Aiden. I believe that true love always finds a way of entwining those lost souls that are meant to be together, and for these two it looks like fate does intervene in bringing them back together. From the very beginning of this book you are transported into their lives, and the intriguing Cedar Ridge. Cedar Ridge is a place where tragedy often strikes, and where pain, fear and loss occurred for Lily. This loss led to her leaving the town and everything she ever loved behind, including her one true love Aidan Kincaid, a sexy firefighter who all the girls want. As you get to know more about him and his life, you learn that there is much more to discover. Such as his fierce love for his family and hatred for his father, (with good reason) and the over-protectiveness of his mother, (who honestly is more than capable of looking after herself), but most of all you learn why he has closed off his heart. When Lily returns after 10 years of being away from the place which broke her heart, you learn about her life after Cedar Ridge and why she has suddenly chosen to return, but most of all you learn about why she pushed the only man she ever really felt a true connection with away. Will Aidan and Lily ever rekindled what was lost so long ago, well you’ll just have to read the book to find out for yourself. What I will say is when you read this book you will be transported to Cedar Ridge, feel what they feel, the heat, fire, intensity, and the sex (well, let’s say it’s definitely a lip biting moment), incredibly hot enough for you to allow your own imagination to feel the passion and lust between them. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and cannot wait for the next instalment, to see where life takes Aidan and Lily to next.

Lilly Danville had to get away from Cedar Ridge after the death of her sister then, very quickly, her father. When she left she also left behind Aidan Kincaid. She moved to San Diego where she was a successful beautician. After 10 years there she lost her job and was black listed in that area. An old friend gave her a job but it was back in Cedar Ridge. Not only that but at the resort Aidan's family owns. Aidan is now a firefighter and volunteers for Search and Rescue. He is stunned to learn Lilly is back especially since he still has feeling for her. But she doesn't plan on staying so he can't risk his heart. I loved the characters in this book. Being about Lilly and Aiden they were the most developed characters. I couldn't help but feel sorry for Lilly and all she went through both in Cedar Ridge and San Diego. Aiden always wanted to help others which is why his jobs were perfect for him. He was a gorgeous, sexy man which drew me to him even more. His siblings and mother helped move the story along by always meddling in each other's business. What a great family! But the writing in general was terrific. I easily followed the plot and pictured the town. It left me wanting to visit the lodge and hike the trails. I really liked that there were several laugh out loud spots in the story. This was a captivating, enjoyable novel that was a joy to read. It is definitely one that should make its way into the libraries of all romance lovers.

A sexy, well-paced, solidly-plotted romance with plenty of swoon-worthy moments and liberal doses of humor “He remembered kissing her… falling for her. Then how she’d left the mountain without looking back, forgetting about him with shocking, heartbreaking ease. Now she was back. And she’d kissed him like maybe she hadn’t forgotten him after all...” SECOND CHANCE SUMMER is a wonderful second-chance-at-love story set in Cedar Ridge, Colorado. I wanted to take deep breaths of the Rocky Mountains' clear crisp air and overdose on the clear blue skies. It took a couple of chapters to get fully vested in this one, but, once I did, I was thoroughly hooked, and found myself searching for ways to cram in additional listening time. Love is in the air in Cedar Ridge and another Kincaid brother is fixing to bite the dust... This is the story of Aiden Kincaid and Lily Danville. Aiden is one of the Kincaid brothers and, therefore, part-owner of the family's popular ski resort. He's also a firefighter and on call for search and rescue. He's a hero of epic proportions and hot, hot, hot! He's also been enamored of Lily for years. She broke his heart when she left leaving him in a condition akin to the walking dead. Now she's back... Lily escaped from Cedar Ridge years ago after her sister tragically died while trying to conquer a climb and after her father had passed at her sister's funeral. She never looked back. She has made a name for herself at a world-famous spa, but after her boss back-stabbed her, she desperately needs a job and Cedar Ridge is the only place that has offered her a chance. She's a basket case having had her life pulled out from under her and now she has to face her hometown teeming with memories that she doesn't want to face. One of those most painful memories is Aiden... The telling of NOBODY BUT YOU was exponentially enhanced by Karen White's performance. Karen always delivers stellar executions and she's hands-down one of my very favorite narrators. She has a pleasing, clear voice and delivers realistic, genuine-sounding female and male voices. Her narration makes it very easy for the listener to differentiate between the characters. Simply said, she brings the characters to life. All of Jill's books that I've read could be easily enjoyed as standalone reads. There are interconnected characters and a common setting, but Jill seamlessly provides whatever nuances needed to fully enjoy each book individually. So... feel free to dive in to Jill's books whenever and wherever. I'm a huge fan of Jill Shalvis' books. If you enjoy sexy, well-paced, solidly-plotted romances with plenty of swoon-worthy moments and liberal doses of humor, I'd highly recommend any of Jill's books. Her characters can be counted on to steal your heart. I am reading this series out-of-order. I've thoroughly enjoyed all three books in this series and highly recommend them all. I love each and every series from Jill Shalvis. I was so sad to see the end of the Lucky Harbor series happen, but was super excited when I read we would get a new series and I loved the first book in the Cedar Ridge series so much. I have to say I loved both Lily and Aidan from the moment we met them both. Aidan loves to take care of everyone in his life and has always been the one to try and protect his family and friends. Lily pulled at every single one of my heartstrings. She really was such a strong character and has been living with the unnecessary guilt from her sister's death for 10 years. I really felt like Lily had no chance of finally coming to terms with her sister's death until she came back to Cedar Ridge. I also think she really needed to be around Aidan again to help move forward, as she left town and him behind with no warning after her sister died. I loved that Lily and Aidan had major chemistry from the moment they saw each other again. Lily continuing to say she was only in town until she could find a new job pretty much killed me as I could tell that Aidan still loved her and I didn't want him to get hurt again. I also love the family dynamics between Aidan, his brothers and his sister. I loved they are all so protective of one another, with Aidan being the most protective of everyone. I love reading about a small town, family run business and the Cedar Ridge lodge run by the Kincaid family is the perfect setting. I absolutely loved Aidan and Lily's romance and can't wait to see the rest of the Kincaid family find their own happily ever after. Second Chance Summer was an awesome start to the new Cedar Ridge series from Jill Shalvis. Fans of Jill Shalvis will be happy to have a new small town series after leaving Lucky Harbor, and new reader will quickly see why her fans fall in love with each of her books.

I am a huge fan of Jill Shalvis, but this book is poorly written and makes me question her passion for writing. The plot was rushed and the dialogue painful to read. Usually when I read her books, I am so lost in them that time slips away. She has the ability to transport you to other towns and adventures, but with this read, I was too distracted by the gaping plot and awkward character exchanges to go anywhere.

Cedar Ridge - I want to live there. Second Chance Summer is the first book in Jill Shalvis's Cedar Ridge series and what a great start to it. This book is about Aidan and Lily, Aidan is a fireman, a search and rescue team member and he works at his family resort too and Lily was the love of his life that left town 10 years ago after a tragic event that made Lily feel so guilty that she left him behind in her dust. Now she is back and Lily is still wrecked with guilt, but she has come to the aid of her friend Johnathon who needs her to cover maternity leave and until she can find herself another job and she can leave Cedar Ridge once again. On arriving back in town Lily calls at the grocery shop to get herself some comfort food and ends up having an accident on leaving and drops her purchases and her car keys, she picks up her shopping and exits the shop. Aidan is in the queue and sees all this happen and the cashier asks him to aid her by taking her her keys that she has lost- this is the first time that he comes to her aid and he realises that she is STILL the one he wants. Lily tries to resist Aidan but with their amazing chemistry that leaps out of the pages - she has not got a chance. This story goes on to show you how Lily comes to terms with her guilt, how Aidan tries to win her love once again and show her she belongs in Cedar Ridge with him. So as you can probably gather I can not wait now for the next story in this series as I am hooked with the story that I know will follow of all the inhabitants of this mountain town. This is a definite must read for all alpha romance lovers out there.

This first story in the Cedar Ridge series featuring the Kinkaid family is all about Aiden and Lily. When Lily's sister died in a mountain climbing accident, Lily left town for California, looking to find a way through her grief by moving away. When she ends up in a tough spot ten years later, she returns home to a job in a salon with a friend, and the man whom she's never forgotten. Will returning to Cedar Ridge, and the man she left behind, heal old wounds and open up her heart to a better and brighter future? This was a very enjoyable story. Because it's the first of the series, you get a good introduction to all of the Kinkaid family (4 brothers and 1 sister) and the background to some of the issues they've had to deal with over the years. For Aiden, his feelings of responsibility to his siblings also work their way into his job in firefighting and search and rescue. He'd like to rescue Lily too, but it's up to her to deal with her own ghosts. I liked both characters and felt that Lily's response to her sister's death was believable. She feels guilty for what happened (though she isn't at fault) and hasn't really confronted those feelings until now. When she left town the first time she broke Aiden's heart and she's not willing to do that again. She's made it clear that she's going to leave town at the first opportunity and doesn't want to get emotionally involved with anyone. But Aiden does a good job of showing her what she'd be missing and she begins to see that she can have a family again, if she'll accept his feelings for her and let him into her heart. Their love scenes are steamy yet tender and emotional. This was an entertaining and fast paced read and I'm looking forward to reading the next in the series.

Second Chance Summer is book one in the Cedar Ridge series by Jill Shalvis. So this is my third book by Jill Shalvis and I have pretty much come to the conclusion that I am going to love anything she writes. Such is the case with this fabulous first book of this brand new series. It didn’t take long for me to not only fall in love with the two main characters but also, all of the secondary characters, well, maybe except one. Welcome to Cedar Ridge, Colorado and meet the Kincaid family. You will find it hard not to instantly love this family made up of an ornery Mom, four very sexy brothers, one of which we don’t get to meet just yet. And one very temperamental half-sister. This family might be a bit dysfunctional but they love each other and will to go the ends of the earth to protect one another. Aidan Kincaid is the second to the oldest, his older brother, Gray, is the only sibling that is married. Aidan seems like he is the brother that holds everyone together. He is the ‘pleaser’ as one of his brothers calls him. He tries to fix everything for his siblings. Aidan is a firefighter, is a member of the search and rescue team, and helps his brothers run the family resort. Ten years ago, Aidan found himself falling for Lily Danville. But when tragedy struck Lily’s family, she left town, never looking back. Since then, Aidan keeps his time filled with work, his family and occasional ‘friends with benefits’ encounters with various women. But he has never been able to open his heart to anyone since Lily left. Then, one day as he is in line at the convenience store, there she was, with her arms filled with junk food, more beautiful than he remembered. For the last ten years, Lily Danville has built a life for herself in California. She worked up to assistant manager of a high profile salon and is quite proud of what she has accomplished. Then, everything fell apart. Now, she has no job and no prospect of one in the near future. Her friend, Jonathan, in Cedar Ridge has offered her a temporary position working for him at Mane Attraction until she can find something else. Can she go back as a failure? Can she face all the memories that Cedar Ridge holds for her? And what about Aidan? Of course, she is in town barely a few minutes and she is face to face with him. It seems ten years did nothing to dampen the chemistry between them. “You don’t have to try so hard to get my attention, babe, you’ve already got it.” Being back in Colorado after ten years was going to take some getting used to. And it seemed like Aidan was coming to Lily’s rescue every time she turned around. But as the book progressed, I had to wonder, who really needed the rescuing? Was it Lily from the memories that Cedar Ridge held and her feelings of grief and responsibility for what happened? Or was it Aidan who seems like he feels responsible for everyone? “You’re not a job to me, Lily. Not even close. You’re more. And I think I’m more to you too. I think it’s not that you don’t feel anything, it’s that you feel too much. I scare you.” I think Aidan is my new favorite book boyfriend. This guy was just…well, amazing. Every time he uttered two particular words to Lily, I would melt into a puddle. “Think of me.” These two were a mess together. And perfect together. The last 25% of the book was freaking fabulous.

I’m pretty much a read-‘em-all Jill Shalvis fan and although I was disappointed to hear Lucky Harbor books are done (maybe/sorta/we can hope not, right?), I really love the start of the Cedar Ridge novels. Second Chance Summer is the first book about the Kincaid Brothers and I think Aidan almost – and I mean almost – came close to giving Sawyer, from Lucky Harbor, a run for my favorite Alpha. (Sorry, Aidan, although I love you Sawyer is still #1 in my heart. You were soooooooooo close, though!) Aidan Kincaid and Lily Danville meet up again in Cedar Ridge, Colorado and the story begins. You can read what the story is about so I’ll just tell you that it is classic Jill Shalvis – it was funny, as in it made me snort-laugh in places; it was sweet; it was heartbreaking; and it was fun. There was a lot to accomplish with this first book as it introduces the place, the Kincaid family, et al, and what life is like in town. I loved the dynamic and I loved Lily and Aidan. I highly recommend, especially if you love Ms. Shalvis, and even more so if you haven’t read any of her books and want to start somewhere.

Loved, loved, loved this one! Lily left Cedar Ridge ten years ago after her sister tragically died. She left behind Aidan, who she cared deeply about but couldn't allow herself to have because she felt so guilty about her sisters death. Lily and Aidan circle each other afraid to give in to their attraction to each other. Emotions run high, you laugh and then you feel sadness for Lily, who can't forgive herself. A must read and I may just read it again!
