Overview

Finally, the knight Sparhawk had come to possess Bhelliom, legendary jewel of magic that alone could save Queen Ehlana from the deadly poison that had felled her father. Sparhawk and Sephrenia, ageless instructor in Styric magics, made haste to free Ehlana from the crystalline cocoon that had preserved her life while they desperately sought a cure.

But Bhellion carried dangers of its own. Once the stone came into his hands, Sparhawk found himself stalked by a dark, lurking menace. Whether the foul Zemoch god Azash was behind this threat, or some other enemy, even Sephrenia could not say—only that the sapphire rose held powers too dangerous for any mortal to bear.

Restoring Queen Ehlana would only be the beginning of Sparhawk's mission. With the aid of four stalwart knights, one from each Militant Order, he must thwart Ehlana's poisoner, the Primate Annias, in his plot to assume the throne of the Church. For, as Archprelate, Annias would serve his secret master, Azash, and deliver up to the dread god the one thing Azash thirsted for—Bhelliom itself!

This is one of those authors who you read over and over. I have read this particular series at least 4 times, I have read the Belgariad and Tamuli books as well several times. They always make me smile! I love the characters and their interaction, and he is a genious at engaging dialog. Thank you so much for giving me a place to replace my well-worn paperbacks so that I can continue to enjoy them in the years ahead.

Love this book! The whole series is FANTASTIC! Eddings' Belgariad/malloreon and Elnium/Tamuli do have strond similarities, so if you like the belgariad, these books are great.

The conclusion of the Elenium gets a little strange. Sparhawk continues his almost single handed war against the enemies of the kingdom, even when it becomes clear those enemies are the gods. As usual he does so in his straightforward, no-nonsense way, aided by his sneakier allies. The strengths of this book are the same as the previous two, the character of Sparhawk is entertaining, and so are his friends. The plot in this one isn't quite as good, but its still an enjoyable book.

This is the best of the trilogy. I love the comraderie between Sparhawk and his companions. The election of a new archprelate is the best part of the series. I love to reread that section.
