Salvador Dalí was one of the most important artists of the twentieth century, as well as a cultural figure who challenged convention. He became the most recognizable face of Surrealism, and later Modern Art. The young Salvador Dalí was much inspired by such modern artists as Picasso, and he began to harness his drawing talent in Surrealist fashion by blurring the line between reality, imagination and perception while choosing subjects that ranged from the unconventional to the taboo. His works abounded with Symbolism representing eroticism, death and decay, demonstrating his fascination with Freud and later science and religion. He is just as well known for his eccentric behaviour, his incredible moustache and his love for his muse and wife Gala. A creative genius, Salvador Dalí was instrumental in shaping the art world from the mid-twentieth century and is still influencing art as we know it today. This wonderful, heavily-illustrated book is a fascinating foray into the life and works of a man whose ability to reveal the gap between reality and illusion proved to be of huge influence to many artists, as well as popular culture in general.
