The novel Safe At Home by Mike Lupica is a story about a boy named Nick Crandall. Nick was adopted by his parents and attenda Haywoth school. Nick plays baseball and his position is catcher and Nick has an unbelievable throwing arm. This novel keeps you intrigued and grabs your attetion right from the start. one thing i didnt like the book because the pace was slow at certain areas. In conclusion i would recommened Safe At Home because itt brings excitement to the readers about baseball-America's favorite sport!

Nick Crandall is 12 years old and lives for baseball. He was adopted by two professors who don't know much about sports. Nick cares more about sports than he does his grades, which is the polar opposite of his parents. Nick is a catcher, who has a great arm. When an injury to the varsity catcher occurs, Nick gets called up to the varsity team (how realistic, right?). Nick has to go through teammate harassment (at first) and getting his grades up. With help from friends, Nick gains a whole new perspective on life.

Our grandson is a huge fan of Mike Lupica's books. He looks forward to each new one that comes out. He's 11 and loves to read especially sports books.

Twelve-year-old Nick Crandall has just received the wish of every boy on his middle school JV baseball team - a chance to play varsity, a chance that no Hayworth School sixth-grader has ever been given. He should be thrilled; but he's not. Nick, adopted only three years earlier from a foster home, is happy on JV. He's a star player. He's among friends. When he's drafted to fill in for an injured varsity player, he no longer feels "safe at home." In fact, he longer feels at home anywhere.Safe at Home is part of the Comeback Kids series, written by famed sports columnist, author, and TV personality, Mike Lupica. The thrill of the game takes center field in this story as Nick Crandall learns confidence and an appreciation for the things he has, rather than a longing for those he doesn't. Middle school boys and baseball fans should enjoy this short, baseball-themed novel.

a fun baseball story. i also really appreciated that the main character of this book was a former foster child and now adopted. there aren't a ton of young adult books that feature adopted kids and so i really appreciate that this book exists. there was a lot of fun baseball action and some good life lessons as well.
