With cameos on two smash singles -- Moby's "South Side" remix and Eve's seductive "Let Me Blow Ya Mind" -- since No Doubt's Return of Saturn, Gwen Stefani easily could have gotten comfortable riding shotgun in other people's flashy cars. Fortunately, she's back in the driver's seat of her original new-wave hot rod, refueled by her forays into dance and hip-hop. Rock Steady is as fresh and fun as No Doubt's breakthrough, Tragic Kingdom -- it's a valentine to dancehall and reggae written in the day-glo bubble letters of synth-obsessed new wave-lite pop. The thumping first single, "Hey Baby," features a roof-raising chorus and a bouncy Bounty Killer cameo, and Stefani sweetly woos and coos on the upbeat, reggae-flavored ballad "Underneath It All." Lyrically, the blonde bombshell still has no problem divulging the secrets of her personal life, but this time, she keeps the subject matter lighter than on 2000's disappointing Saturn. In contrast with that disc's overarching concerns with biological clock ticking and personal reevaluation, Stefani seems content to play a starry-eyed romantic and keep the heavy stuff between the covers. On the Kraftwerk-inspired "Hella Good," co-penned by one-half of the ubiquitous star-producers the Neptunes, Stefani sings, "You got me feelin' hella good so let's just keep on dancing," while on the excellent William Orbit-produced, fuzz-bass pumped "Making Out," she anticipates just "hanging out" with her long-distance lover. Even with so many strong production personalities at the mixing board (including Prince, Sly & Robbie, Nellee Hooper, and the Cars' Ric Ocasek), Stefani's charisma shines through and ties all of the tracks together. With Rock Steady, No Doubt haven't grown up -- instead, they've grown into the party-hopping, free-loving wild children their audience has always wanted them to be.

As a MAJOR Gwenabee, I give Rock Steady THREE thumbs up! Only complaint: I think the cover art's kinda ugly :P

I have all of No Doubt CDs (from their self titled to Rock Steady) and this is by far one of my favorites! They brought back their ska sound making it seem more like The Beacon Street Collection and Tragic Kingdom than the more R&B styled Return of Saturn (which I also luv!)

This is an awesome album. Not exactly like the last ones, but I love it.

No Doubt's cd, Rock Steady, is sure to be a hit. No Doubt lets loose and has fun on this album, not like Return of Saturn in which the band tried to show its seriousness and maturity. Some of the better tracks on the cd are Hey Baby, the first single off the album, Underneath It All, which features Lady Saw, Detective, in which Gwen sings of suspecting her lover of being unfaithful, Start the Fire, a song about getting back together, Running, which is a slower and more serious balad than many of the other songs on the album, In My Head, about a long distance relationship, Waiting Room, with vocals from Prince, Platinum Blonde Life, which is a harder rocking song than the others, and the title track, Rock Steady. All in all this is a great cd with the potential for many singles and I would definitely reccommend it.

Seriously, if you liked Tragic Kingdom or Return of Saturn, or especially the self-titled first No Doubt CD, you will definitely love Rock Steady as well. It is not as good as Tragic Kingdom to me, but it tops all the other CD's! It's still great, exciting, fun music that sucks you in and never lets you out. =)

This album is the best yet that No Doubt has offered. The styles that they use vary from 80's to pop and regae. I have listened to this non stop for 3 days and I don't think that I can ever get bored!! A definante must buy for all No Doubt fans!

Rock Steady is a great album that calls back to the days of The Beacon Street Collection. This is a fun, lighthearted album that just makes you want to get up and dance!! For those of you that may have been a bit dissapointed with Return Of Saturn, check this album out, for it is great! Definately something that you'll have in your cd player for quite awhile.

This CD blows Return to Saturn away! It is their greatest cd yet, it is the coolest. I am a huge fan of Tragic Kingdom, but this is way cool! It's awsome! Everything they have done so far can't measure up to how great they made this cd! I totally recomend it if your into that cool, edgy, rock steady attitude! You would have to be a total nut case if you did not like this cd. It's a cd that even the geekiest nerds are allowed to love. It's totally awsome! I think that No Doubt is the greatest band, because they are not trying to be pop people, but they have been doing their own thing, the thing that they love the most!

I've been a fan of No Doubt's since Orange County, before they broke big. After all these years I think it's great to finally see an album that shines light on the fun loving, free spirited No Doubt of the pass.

I love this album!! I have lost count on how many times I have listened to it. I like "Dective", "Underneath it All", "Rock Steady", and "In my Head" are some of my favorites.

This album blew me away when I first heard it at a Hot Topic store last week. Once I baught it, it immediately became one of my favorite CD's of the year. Gwen and the gang experimented with synthesizers and casio keyboards for this record, and her sound resonates of 80s nostalgia with a perfected tone that is all her own. The only thing wrong with the record is the depth of the lyrics...the girl could use a little more insight, but the honesty and sincerity of her words makes up for it. A must buy!

No Doubt's genre almost completely changes w/this CD! There's a little Jamaican mon, 80's, ska & even a 70's disco-type song!! It is really awesome - Gwen has really expanded her reach with this one!!! :)

No Doubt is an awesome group. Gwen Stefani sure is a role model for some teenagers who want to be like her!

No Doubt has done a good job with this album although I thought they used the synthsizes too much! Not as good as the brilliant Tragic Kingdom. Songs like ''Don't Let me Down,'' ''Hella Good'' ''Start the fire'' and ''Platnium Blonde Life'' are very catchy tunes. There are only two songs on the album that I don't like including first single ''Hey Baby'' which I find ear damaging!! No Doubt are known for experimenting with music so I hope that they will go back to another Tragic Kingdom!!! Go No Doubt!!!!

This CD is so cool it just makes you want to get up and dance! I love the title because it is one of there hit songs on the CD! No Doubt also has a number of slow songs and a number of fast songs as well! This CD has also some songs that have rap in them and some songs that don't, which is really cool in my point of view! So what else is there to say No Doubt is the coolest band in world history!
