Overview

Recipe for Success....After four decades of professional practice I felt I had something to share with my colleagues in health care: practical experience and information, and some insights, all of which I have tried to roll into an enjoyable and usable guide to help prescribers improve the safety of their prescriptions. By providing examples of common prescriptions that illustrate some of the drawbacks of electronic prescribing; by demonstrating some of the potential problems encountered with poor or hurried handwritten prescriptions; by discussing practice barriers pharmacists may encounter, I try to make the health care experience safer and more efficient by pointing out easy, simple ways to reduce interruptions to patient care.
And it turns out Recipe for Success is an enjoyable read for everyone!

About the Author

Joe Goldstein is a registered pharmacist and has practiced pharmacy in Maine and Massachusetts since 1976. He is a graduate of Boston’s Northeastern University Bouvé College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions, and is an adjunct Associate Clinical Professor of Pharmacy Practice at that institution as well as at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences University, Worcester-Manchester Campus in Worcester, Massachusetts, where he was voted Pharmacy Community Preceptor of the Year 2011-2012. He has worked in independent and chain pharmacy, as well as in a “big box” retail pharmacy outlet. He has also worked in managed care and in a staff model HMO. He has managed a physician’s office with a staff of 21 direct reports. He has authored and co-authored nearly 20 articles in professional medical, nursing, and pharmaceutical journals as well as in the lay press. His wife is a Registered Nurse, which often leads to spirited discussions about health care. They have three adult children who are wisely not involved in health care, and live outside of Boston.
