Deja and Josiah are seasonal best friends.
Every autumn, all through high school, they’ve worked together at the best pumpkin patch in the whole wide world. (Not many people know that the best pumpkin patch in the whole wide world is in Omaha, Nebraska, but it definitely is.) They say good-bye every Halloween, and they’re reunited every September 1.
But this Halloween is differentJosiah and Deja are finally seniors, and this is their last season at the pumpkin patch. Their last shift together. Their last good-bye.
Josiah’s ready to spend the whole night feeling melancholy about it. Deja isn’t ready to let him. She’s got a plan: What ifinstead of moping and the usual slinging lima beans down at the Succotash Hutthey went out with a bang? They could see all the sights! Taste all the snacks! And Josiah could finally talk to that cute girl he’s been mooning over for three years . . .
What if their last shift was an adventure?

By the way this cover looks I KNEW I needed to get this in my hands. Just the cover alone made me want to give this 5 stars. I have liked her art from her other works. Deja and Josiah are seasonal best friends. Meaning they are friends at the Pumpkin Patch they work at during the Fall. But this is the last time they'll have the Pumpkin Patch. Josiah wants to spend his night sad about leaving, but Deja has something else in mind... Going to talk to the girl he's been into the entire season. Will he do it? The main reason I added this to my TBR was the art. Hicks is super talented. She made every look on Josiah and Deja's face so believeable, like you were sitting there looking at them. And then everything else that she drew in the background and the decorations, it was just all really pretty. But even still with the beautiful artwork, the story wasn't all that great. I knew how it would end up from the first page. And that was without flipping through, reading the back, or having any idea prior indication where this was going. Although this may seem ok to others, this totally took the surprise out of it for me. It made the entire thing seem really anticlimatic. To me, the art made this graphic novel. From the color palatte, to the expressions on the characters, and just everything about it helped to make this book what it was. The art is what made this for me.
Sweet read to be nostalgic for the fall. Also Deja is a mood and I adore her
So, all I’ve read was unfortunately just a teaser but I’m hooked and can’t wait for this to be released. Deja seems like such an amazing friend to have and if I were her I’d give Josiah so many judgey looks too. I was sold on this already because of the two names on the cover but the art is wonderful and the story is delightful. Will definitely recommend this.
