- A tale of the Ruby Dynasty/Skolian Empire. -

Two interstellar empires are locked in seemingly endless conflict: the Skolian Empire, with its well-trained Jagernauts and faster-than-light communications maintained by members of its Ruby Dynasty, against the Eubian Empire, which thrives on slavery and whose elites are known for their cruelty.

Soz Valdoria, a Jagernaut and member of the Ruby Dynasty, is attracted to her supposed "enemy" Jabriol, the son of the ruler of the Eubian empire, or Traders. With hostile forces seeking their capture or death, Soz and Jabriol must work out their own -- and hopefully their empires' -- salvation.

Called by Booklist "one of the best SF first novels in years", Kirkus Reviews praised PRIMARY INVERSION: "An imaginative debut that takes off at a frantic pace, with dazzling technology, stirring battles and mental hijinks ... plenty of energy and invention."

(LIGHTNING STRIKE, BOOK I and LIGHTNING STRIKE, BOOK II are the same story as told in CATCH THE LIGHTNING, but substantially rewritten and expanded for the eBook form.

The eBook version of PRIMARY INVERSION is rewritten from the original and is considered the best version.)

The text is truncated rather then wrapped correctly. This is a review on the brokeness of the media rather then the story line or writing.

I really like this book and want the ebook version. I was hoping that the format problem had been fixed by now so I risked the $5.99 and lost the bet.

I wish I could rate the book but I can't even read the book. The formatting is messed up on my Nook. I have reported it and they claim it should be fixed within the next couple of weeks. Hopefully it will be. Star rating left because you have to leave a star rating. I can't really rate it though until I am able to read the book. Sorry Catherine.

I will certainly be checking out the other books in the Skolian series and any other works by Catherine Asaro. The book is all at once Science Fiction, mystery, suspense and romance. Very well written with superb characterization. An impressive first book.

Primary Inversion was a book that was hard to put down. Even for a twelve year old like me. I read this book in about six hours (In One Sitting). That's how good it was. From the technology to the different ways Cathering Asaro presents the information. She does repeat some information a lot but it all helps in the end. I'm still trying to find a copy of the sequel cause I was left on the edge of what happened next.

A soldier walks into a bar on a neutral planet, and a cute boy in an enemy uniform tries to pick her up. Is this the start of true love? She doesn¿t think so, but it kindles a desperate desire to learn more about him. Her interest is not romantic; it¿s strategic. He just doesn¿t come across to her as one of the sadistic aristocrats of the Eube Concord, and Sauscony Valdoria, commander of an elite Jagernaut squadron, wants to know why. There¿s also a personal reason for her interest in the enemies of the Skolian Imperilate, she¿s one of the heir to the empire, and she¿s will to put her considerable cybernetic and telepathic military training into finding out more.

This is the 'first' of the Skolian Empire series, though a later book goes back in time to tell earlier parts of the story. The idea of a communications 'net' powered part by computer and part by telepathic minds is interesting, though it relies on magical technology from some other civilization that isn't understood at all. This book is the story of a young Sauscony Valdoria, a Skolian princess and fighter pilot. There is some space battle in the beginning, but after that it is primarily some intrigue and lots of romance. Entertaining to read.

A fantastic read. An amazing blend of science fiction and romance where the story balances out both expertly. It was a groundbreaking enough story that I have read every sincle Skolian Empire novel Asaro has written since...and not been disappointed.

One of the best reads I've had all year, an actual clever SF with Psychics and relationships that are hurtful and hard and joyful.

Reviews from 5 years ago state the problem but it has not been fixed.

Great yarn!

A year later and it is still messed up. The right half of the text is off the screen and no setting change will fix it....
