Overview

The second I ran into Gunner Wilson and his outrageously cocky attitude at my cousin's shooting range, I considered us a team. Then he played dumb about a duffel bag full of money, my cousin's whereabouts, and the freaking case he'd been working.

Now, I'd bet my britches (and everything else I'm wearing) that my sexy, hot-assed Texas Ranger is lying about my cousin's real involvement in the local gun smuggling ring.

I know just how damned distracting Gunner can be. Trust me. The pure, unadulterated want between us has never been stronger—and it seems Gunner is pulling all the punches to drive me crazy. He's good, I'll hand him that.

But as they say—"You can't pick your family"—and I'll be damned if I'm going to let one of them take heat for a crime they didn't commit.

Book 2 PRETTY SHAMELESS is a continuation of Deputy Laney Briggs, her hot Texas Ranger boyfriend, Gunner Wilson, her dim-wit cousin Wyatt and of course Luke Wagner, who I haven't quite figured out yet. I think Jodi wants to keep me in suspense longer about him...LOL..There's shooting, bombs, arguing and of course some really hot sex in this story. Gunner is stepping up to the plate with Laney but I think he has a way to go yet. Wyatt is in more trouble than he can handle and Luke has himself involved right along with the other characters, although that part is still a mystery to me. A lot of 'Laneyisms' to make you chuckle too.

Overall Rating:  4.5 Rockin Stars In Jodi Linton's newest novel, Pretty Shameless, a Deputy Laney Briggs novel part 2, the author gives Deputy Briggs another adventure with her smoking hot Texas Ranger.  The characters are flawlessly written and excite a love for the cowboy way! Laney is on the hunt for her wayward cousin and butting heads with her long time love, Gunner Wilson.  Every twist and turn leads her back to a dead-end.  She knows that Gunner knows more than he's letting on, but she loves her tight jean wearing cowboy, so she's biding her time and waiting patiently.  However, with all the excitement, Laney brings her game no matter what is thrown her way. Will Laney solve the mystery of her cousin's disappearance and clear his name?  Can Laney and Gunner continue their on again off again relationship and have what they crave so deeply?  Read this book to find out!  Disappointment is not an option! This was yet again another striking, action packed situation of hot cowboys, sizzling romance, and mystery.  Jodi has a beautiful strength that is shown in her books that involves immense woman power!   I love the way that Laney Briggs takes the lemons that she's given so often and makes lemonade.  However, in the end, I was shaken to the core with the cliffhanger ending!  Deputy Laney Briggs ROCKS and I anxiously await the next installment.  Way to saddle up, Jodi! Hero -  4.5 stars Heroine - 4.5 stars Steam Level: 4.0 stars  Plot: 4.5 stars  Cliffhanger: Yes  Would I recommend this book:  Yes! This book has mystery, romance, and adventure!  Add a little smoking hot cowboys in the mix and you get an incredible story that will rock your world. Would I read other books by this author:  Yes!  I love this author!  She brings an incredible take on the cowboy way that incites interest for the readers.   ***Received an ARC of this book from the Author in exchange for an honest review***

I enjoyed this book. It is part of the series and I have been trying to read in order. I love how Laney and Gunner are making moves toward permanence despite how they can irritate each other. The physical love between them is hot. I am looking forward to the next book to see if the steps that they have made toward the future together actually come through.

Wow! Just finished this one and I am in a daze. Talk about action, hot loving, funny friendships, crazy family members and a seriously messed up twist at the end. I did not see that one coming. I have read the other two books in this series but this one seemed to have an edgier/meaner feel to it. Well between Gunner and Laney. There chemistry was by far still combustible. But their relationship felt a little more strained to me. They almost seemed desperate for each other like they would disappear or lose each other if they weren't joined. And their issues seemed to play a bigger part in this one. Not that this is a bad thing but kept me interested and hoping they could work it all out. The supporting cast in Pretty Shameless were just that, without shame. Wyatt, Laney's cousin is a hot mess and very selfish. Her mom is total piece of work. And a few other characters who brought about very entertaining scenes. Then there is Luke. I like him and the way he was there for Laney, maybe a little too convenient, but still there for her when no one else was. I hope the next installment in this series will focus on Luke and clear up any misunderstandings or confusions. I don't want to give anything away but would love to delve deeper into his story. I received this book in exchange for an honest review from the publisher.

Deputy Laney Briggs is one tough cookie and I absolutely love her character and her sassyness. Her boyfriend, Ranger Gunner Wilson, well he is definitely hot, but he is one cocky and arrogant a**. In this book Laney and Gunner are thrown into a situation involving her cousin Wyatt. And at every turn Gunner works to impede her progress. Now I will say I felt like Gunner actually was overly manipulative and mean to Laney in a professional capacity. While yes their past is quite messy, the situation is compounded with their run ins over the case. At times it kinda irked me that Laney was able to get over it and forgive him so quickly. And she isn't necessarily always honest with him. But again their past is is a long one riddled with up, downs and in betweens. I don't think that all love stories should be easy peasy, because that ain't real life. My hope is that Laney will make him sweat whether or not he can be forgiven so easily in the next book. Ms Linton again displays her excellent writing skills. Especially the plot, it will definitely keep your attention. Not only about what may be going on in Pistol Rock, but also regarding Laney and Gunner's past. And the ending... well I never saw that one coming. So be prepared for a cliffhanger!

Jodi Linton brings us the wise-cracking, sharp tongued Deputy Laney Briggs back for the latest installment of her cowboy series set in the fictional town of Pistol Rock, Texas. And boy do we get a bang! Laney has settled into life with her Texas Ranger lover Gunner Wilson, contemplating starting a family and putting down some serious roots when a string of murders hits the area with ties to organized crime. So of course it’s Laney to the rescue with Gunner on her tail. But things are never what they seem in Pistol Rock or in Laney’s life. The first-person narration is top notch, painting each scene vividly in Laney’s point of view with the supporting characters working well to make the mystery play out well. Gunner and Laney steam up the pages with their hotter than hot sex and the sexual tension between them peaks throughout, driving the story forward while keeping me riveted and wanting more. And there will be more!

I received a copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads, so here it is. Deputy Laney Briggs is at it again. Along with her sexy cowboy boyfriend Texas Ranger Gunner Wilson. They are after her cousin Wyatt, who stole guns from Willie, the local bad guy. Each has their own secrets that they are keeping from each other and this will make trusting each other harder. When Gunner sends Laney on a wild goose chase, it only serves to make her angry. With Luke still hanging around, can Laney keep him at arms length? Will they find Wyatt and get him back to Pistol Rock before the bad guys get him? Can Laney and Gunner move forward from the past? This series gets better and better with each book. **Wicked Reads Review Team**

Another adventure for Laney courtesy of her crazy cousin Laney needs to locate her cousin and Gunner knows more about that then he's letting on. You have powerful off the charts chemistry between Laney and Gunner. When Gunner makes it look like he is in the doghouse he does something that just melts your heart. Poor Laney has more unexpected things happen to make he question some people. Can't wait to see what's in store Laney next.

Awesome Series! Pretty Shameless is part of the Deputy Laney Briggs Series, and these books keep getting better and better. They can be read as a standalone, but I encourage you to read them all, they are worth reading. Deputy Laney Briggs is a sass talking country girl and trouble seems to follow her around. She is on the hunt for her dumb ass cousin who has disappeared after her mom bailed him out of jail. He is wanted for gun smuggling and whatever else he has managed to get himself into. While Laney is searching for him she find sexy agent Gunner, who is also her boyfriend snooping around her cousins house. The problem is the infuriating Gunner is never honest with Laney. She must find her cousin, to get her mom off her back, fine out what Gunner is hiding from her and solve the case. I LOVE the characters in this book! This book has it all humor, laugh out loud moments, mystery, suspense, and wonderful southern mannerisms. I can’t get enough of Laney Briggs and sexy Gunner, I can’t wait until the next book comes out. A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

Pretty Shameless continues the saga of Deputy Laney Biggs and Texas Ranger Gunner Wilson. Laney is snarky, feisty and stubborn and Gunner is a hot cowboy with a protective streak a mile wide. Whenever the two cross paths, sparks fly. In Pretty Shameless, Laney is racing against the clock to prove that her cousin is not smuggling guns nor did he kill someone. Will she be able to help prove his innocence before someone harm him? I love Pretty Shameless for its witty banter, hot sexy scenes, and touch of intrigue. I love Laney's snarky attitude - several of her idiom's had me literally laughing out loud. I love the sparks between Laney and Gunner which were so hot they could set an igloo on fire. Pretty Shameless is the fourth book in the Deputy Laney Biggs series, but can be read as a stand alone. Do be warned that the book takes several twists at the very end and does have a cliff hanging ending. I cannot wait to find out what is going to happen to Laney and Gunner next!

Read the earlier book first! I’ve read several books from this publisher in this category and, despite the title, thought this would be a criminal/suspense genre story and, whilst there are some aspects of these genres in the story, it isn’t really what it is about and, as I really like those genres, I was therefore quite disappointed. I think this is one series where it really would pay to read the earlier book before starting on this one. The characters in the story have already well defined relationships and reactions to each other and, having not read the earlier book, I found it difficult to rationalise their actions at times. Indeed, I have no idea at all who she called at the end of the book! I am still confused as to why Laney reacts in the ways she does to the men in her life and as to the sexual act descriptions!?!? . . . . Sorry, probably the sort of book others will thoroughly enjoy, just didn’t rock my boat as I felt more like figuratively shaking some sense into Laney! Don’t let me put you off, though, you may thoroughly enjoy it. Thanks to the author and publishers, too, for letting me read an ARC of this book in exchange for this, an honest review.

Laney Briggs and her sexy red boots make for one hot read. Add irresistible Texas Ranger Gunner Wilson and the story reaches explosive levels. Trouble with her family and secrets with her man lead Laney on a wild goose chase. Gunner exasperates Laney by day and burns her up by night. This story will have you itching for the next page followed by the next story.

I was so excited to read another Laney Briggs book. I love Laney and her sexy red cowboy boots and her boyfriend Gunner. They have some amazing sex in this book. A mystery in Pistol Rock that involves Laney's cousin needs to be solved, with many twists and turns. This was a book that I could not put down. I just love Laney's sexiness and her smart mouth. I just need to know how soon is the next Laney book. I received this book from the publisher for an honest review.

Laney's super unique voice is back! And so is the drama, AND her mama! Lol!!!! This time, she's trying to get her cousin Wyatt out of prison, and ends up learning a lot of secrets about her cousin and her Texas Ranger, Gunner Wilson. This book has enough twists and turns to make you dizzy. Can I say I love the secondary characters? Wyatt was awesome comic relief! Lol! Linton excels at pulling us into these scene, and her descriptions/character's mannerisms are top notch. She nailed the small town livin'! The heat is ON! Laney and Gunner have their realistic up and downs. Luke also brings the heat. Can he please get his own book? I also would love a little something-something with detective Brock.  I loved the ending and I can't wait to read more. I truly appreciate the author taking a risk and doing something different with the ending. Well done!

I enjoyed this continuation of the Laney and Gunner romance that started with earlier books in the series and will continue with the next one. (This story can be read as a standalone, but benefits from having read previous books, and doesn't end with their HEA so you know that story isn't finished yet!). This writer has a very unique voice, and I find the style of Laney's inner monologue to be quite amusing, as well as the distinctive descriptions that she uses to showcase the world around her. It's very colourful to say the least! The love scenes between Laney and Gunner are heated and intense. The plot of this one, involving Laney's cousin Wyatt and his shenanigans was quite entertaining and kept me interested from beginning to end. 4 stars!

Welcome back to Pistol Rock, Texas where the people are more colorful than the scenery and where sassy-mouthed Deputy Laney Briggs has found herself smack dab in the middle of trouble…again! One would think a town of only 200 would make for a relatively quiet oasis, but Pistol Rock continues to spout forth a well of depravity surrounded by a landscape ripe with the likes of organized crime, drug rings, and sordid other criminal activity. If you are looking for baseball, Mom, and apple pie, you have pulled up to the wrong one horse town. Laney has always been an interesting character to me. Her tough, sassy-mouthed personality is a great cover to the sensitive and scarred heart she harbors. When you layer on her less than ideal family, namely a mother who makes Joan Crawford look like June Cleaver and a cousin who can’t keep his nose clean, it’s easy to see why Laney is a prickly as she is. Of course her history with her Texas Ranger Gunner Wilson and her best friend Luke Wagner – who of course don’t ever see eye to eye – only add to the many problems that Laney finds herself having to navigate through. I love the story that Jodi Linton has woven around the town of Pistol Rock. Her characters are colorful and her descriptions of them have you easily painting an image in your mind of what they look like, their mannerisms, and their behaviors. It’s become apparent that she has crafted a mystery that starts in the first book, Pretty Reckless, and will take us through the conclusion of the series, but each book will focus on a separate event that will somehow tie in to her overarching story arc. Even though you won’t need to read the other books in the series to read and enjoy this book, if you do read them you will have more of an understanding about the dynamics between the characters, as well as be treated to some pretty funny “Laneyisms”.  I still find myself struggling with the relationship between Laney and Gunner. There is such an attraction and addiction between the two that I find myself disappointed at times that the focus seems to be only on the sex – which is certainly hot. There were a few honest moments between the two in this book, but I definitely need more from them on an emotional level – I am still trying to feel that connection between the two that the words on the page say is there, but when I tie that in to their actions I come up short in actually feeling it. And although I can certainly appreciate Laney admiring those sexy cowboys she comes in contact with, she really needs to get a handle on that libido of hers, especially if she wants to create a solid foundation for her relationship with Gunner. My other minor issues surround two things – one being the need for both Gunner and Laney to respect the fact that their jobs force them to keep secrets from one another. I’m a bit surprised at times that Laney doesn’t grasp the fact that Gunner can’t disclose information on the investigations he’s working on – even if they do involve her relatives – and think she needs to get a handle on the fact that the nature of their jobs will always have this being the case, but I would like to see more from Gunner reinforcing that fact with her. If they are ever going to make things work, this needs to be addressed. My other issue would be around the amount of metaphors and other “Laneyisms” that got thrown around in this book. Ms. Linton tells a wonderful story that, for me, got bogged down at times with what seemed to me to be too much of this type of phraseology. I love some of the things that come out of Laney’s mouth and shoot through her brain, but feel that in the case of this book there were too many and it became a distraction at times. All in all this was another great installment in the Deputy Laney Briggs series and has me now waiting for the next book to see where the story will go. I’ve come to love all these characters and can’t wait to see what trouble Jodi Linton stirs up next for them, especially surrounding my personal favorite Luke (who’s mine by the way, just sayin’!) I was given a copy of this book from the author for an honest review and have rounded my 3.5 rating up to 4 stars.

Loved this book! This installment is action-packed with lots of mystery and suspense. Laney Briggs is awesome! Sassy, funny, strong, outspoken. Someone you would want to have as your friend. But, I get frustrated with all the crap Laney puts up with from Gunner. He is disrespectful, controlling, keeps secrets from her and lies to her. Needless to say, I am not a fan of Gunner. I wish she would stand up to him and kick him out. She deserves to be treated better and as an equal. This book did end with a cliffhanger and I can't wait to see what is going to happen next. Will Gunner redeem himself? Will Laney finally get tired of him? Who is the mystery man? I guess we will have to wait until the next installment to see. ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.

I’ll admit to not being a big Gunnar fan.  I think he treats Laney poorly.  He knows she is hooked on him and uses that for their mutual sexual gratification but outside the sexual arena he treats her like she doesn’t have a brain.  As for Laney it is true that pickings of decent single men in her age range are slim to nonexistent in Pistol Rock but she shouldn’t settle no matter how hot the sex is. If this book was only about Laney’s men problems I would have rated this much more poorly but there is a mystery to be solved in between all the bedroom shenanigans.  There are twists and turns and fabulous secondary characters that make this a worthwhile read.  I do hope that Laney gets her act together and kicks Gunnar to the curb.  She deserves a man who doesn’t lie and or use her. Complimentary copy provided by author/publisher for an honest review.

Another great Deputy Laney Briggs novel. The sex scenes between Laney and her boyfriend Gunner are so beyond hot. There's another mystery in Pistol Rock that Laney has to solve because it involves her no good cousin Wyatt. The story is very well written with many twists and turns. The ending left me scratching my head and anxiously awaiting the next book!

This is the second full length Laney Briggs book and I loved it. It kept me guessing until the end and after. I love the story of Laney and Gunner. They have a very bumpy relationship, especially with him being a Texas Ranger and keeping things from Laney. This story has Laney looking for her not so bright cousin who jumped bail. The bail was paid by Laney's mom so she has to find him fast. Nothing is never easy for Laney though. Let the fun begin. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes a little suspense and some steamy parts to go with it. It is a really fun read.
