About the Author
BILL RAYNOR is the Director of Athletics, Recreation and Wellness/Community Out Reach programs and Head Men's Basketball Coach at MassBay Community College. Under Raynor's tenure MassBay's Basketball teams have been consistently ranked in the National Top Ten polls amassing a 175-69 record.The 2008-2009 team was crowned New England champions and finished 6th in the country after advancing to the National Tournament. The 2010-2011 team was ranked as high as 3rd in the country and finished the season as New England Region XXI champions with an overall record of 27-7 while advancing to the National tournament ending the season ranked 8th in the country. The 2012-2013 team had a 27-8 record winning the New England Region XXI championship and finishing with a school best 5th place finish nationally.Raynor has been named Coach of The Year in Region XXI in 2009-2011-2013 and was named National District 8 Coach of the Year in 2009-2011-2013. Raynor is a 2006 inductee into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame and was inducted into the Brown University Hall of Fame in 2007 for his contributions as a member of the coaching staff that led to Brown's only Ivy League basketball championship. He was selected into the Catholic Memorial Hall of Fame for his stellar high school achievements. Raynor serves as the chair of the (NJCAA Region XXI) New England Basketball Coaches committee and is the Vice President of the Massachusetts
Community College Athletic Association. Raynor serves as a consultant to the Harare Basketball Association in Zimbabwe,organizing and conducting clinics for the development of both coaches and players.Raynor works diligently with the at risk student population developing and implementing the Young Men of Color (YMOC) program at MassBay Community College through a grant awarded by The Boston Foundation. The program was created to address the academic and retention issues which plague this population and serves to provide support services and a pathway to success for this at risk population.
