Not a fan of romance but could not get enough! I wish these books would have been 400 pages each. So much to explore in this world. By book 2 you'll be hooked.
In this fifth and final novel in the Chaos Station series (all standalone stories with happy endings but with an overall story arc that has continued from book 1), Zander and Felix finally seem to have gotten past their challenges and are ready to move on with their lives. In fact, Zander has a proposal planned - but it all goes awry when they discover a hacker trying to download information from the ship and from their home base. The data relates to Zander's time as a super soldier for the AEF, and following the trail of the hacker leads them to an unknown planet and a horrifying plan. Can Zander and Felix stop the madness from happening again? And will they live to tell the tale to their future children? Once again we're thrown into chaos (ha! no coincidence that the ship is named chaos station with all these guys have to contend with!) and a fast paced, action packed plot as Zander and Felix must do their best to save the universe - again. I'm truly amazed that each book in the series has been a unique experience. The backbone to all the stories has been the relationship between Zander and Felix that has taken its own twists and turns. In the previous story, Inversion Point, they were able to establish a telepathic connection (due to their interactions with the alien species The Resonance) and this has given them the added reassurance that they belong together, their love for each other clearly felt on all levels now. While Zander wants to take the next natural step, Felix is content with the status quo. Just being together is enough; he doesn't need a ring and a ceremony to make their relationship permanent. Zander is etched into his heart already. Through the course of this story Felix comes to realize that what Zander wants is really what he wants too - especially when they get into situations that look very dire and he realizes he might have missed his chance. We get some sexy love scenes between the couple and their love for each other is never in doubt, but it doesn't mean it's all hearts and flowers for these two (at least, not until the ending if they can make it through some more hair raising adventures!). While each of the stories has taken place in different quadrants of the universe, this is the first one to feature a majority of the storyline on an alien planet. The planet in question is unknown, supposed to be uncolonized as it's not on any star charts, and not the most hospitable to human life when Felix and Zander end up there on their quest to find out who is stealing data from them, and why. From the moment they 'arrive' (in typical Zander and Felix disastrous fashion), they are kept on their toes with intense heat, alien life forms, and the discovery of a colony of humans, some of whom have some plans that could lead to another intergalactic war. I don't want to give away too many spoilers, but the whole time they were on the planet's surface I was biting my nails, trying not to flip to the end to see that they would make it out okay. The rest of the Chaos station crew is featured again as secondary characters, friends we've come to know and love as Zander and Felix have cemented their relationship over these past five books. Elias, Nessa, and Qek all make their appearances and add their unique relationships and affection for Zander and Felix to the story. It's been a wild and exciting ride through all 5 books - 5 stars for this dramatic conclusion!
