Overview

One hundred years ago when I was young and impulsive (okay, it was five, alright? Five years ago...) I let my boyfriend take, let's just say... compromising pictures of me.

(Shut up. It made sense at the time).

Surprise! The sleazy back-stabbing jerk posted them on a website and, well, you can guess what happened. That's right.

I'm a meme. A really gross one.

You're seen the pictures. And if you haven't – don't ask. And don't look!

As face recognition software online improves, I get tagged on social media whenever anyone shares my pictures. You try getting a thousand notifications a day, all of them pictures of your tatas.

So. I'm done.

It's time for revenge. Let him see how it feels! But how do you get embarrassingly intimate pictures of your jerkface ex who double-crossed you five years ago?

Especially when he's a member of the U.S.House of Representatives now?

Getting sweet between the sheets with a congressman is pretty much every political roadie's dream, right? I'm one in a crowd.

Except to this day, he swears he didn't do it. Pursued me for months after I dumped him five years ago. Begged me to take him back.

And I almost did it. Almost. I was weak and stupid and in love a hundred years ago.

Okay. Fine. Five.

But I still have the upper hand. Second chance romance has all the emotional feels, doesn't it?

I can't wait to punch him in the feels.

All I need to do is sleep with him once, take some hot-and-sweaty pics of him in... delicate positions, and bring him down. That's it. Nothing more.

Pictures first. Revenge after. And then I win.

At least, that's how it was supposed to happen. But then I did something worse than sexting.

I fell in love with him. Again.

About the Author

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Julia Kent writes romantic comedy with an edge. Since 2013, she has sold more than 2 million books, with 4 New York Times bestsellers and more than 19 appearances on the USA Today bestseller list. Her books have been translated into French and German, with more titles releasing in 2019.

From billionaires to BBWs to new adult rock stars, Julia finds a sensual, goofy joy in every contemporary romance she writes. Unlike Shannon from Shopping for a Billionaire, she did not meet her husband after dropping her phone in a men's room toilet (and he isn't a billionaire she met in a romantic comedy).

She lives in New England with her husband and three children where she is the only person in the household with the gene required to change empty toilet paper rolls.

Once again Julia Kent has delivered a read that had me in stitches, I laughed out loud or should I say snorted out loud and one bit advice I need to give you is don’t read Perky while eating or drinking because you risk covering anyone sitting close by with what’s in your mouth...... Perky follows on from Fluffy which is a series of second chance romances and I have to say so far this is one of the best series of romantic comedy’s of this year but to honest I wouldn’t expect any thing less from this very talented author. This book is an entertaining fun read read with quirky characters you can’t help loving, it’s about friendship and romance with some sizzling hot chemistry but will the chemistry be enough for Perky’s first love Parker to redeem himself when he comes back into town. Perky is a smart, funny yet dramatic woman and she is someone I’m sure we would all love to have as a friend but one thing is certain life would never be boring with her by your side and for me one of the highlights of this great read was the the friendship Mallory and Fiona shared with her, I loved the banter and every character in this book and I’m so looking forward to book 3 which I understand will be the final book in this great series.

Julia Kent never fails to deliver; whenever I see her name I know that I am in for a fabulous read. As with previous books I have read I was in stitches having laughed so much I cried. That’s right, not only laughing but snort laughing, totally unattractive I assure you and the looks I got from my fellow commuters just made me laugh even harder. Julia Kent is one of my go to authors in the romantic comedy genre. There is just something about her style of writing that draws me in and I devour her books.   I absolutely loved the premise for Persephone’s (Perky) story. Perky was everything that I hoped it would be and so much more. Perhaps because Ms. Kent has such an ability to write about characters who are human, engaging and realistic that you cannot help but be drawn in to the story she weaves. Betrayed years before by Parker, the man she loved, Perky is determined to seek her revenge. After all he pursued her for months after she dumped him after his betrayal. I I so felt for Perky and the embarrassment and humiliation she has been made to live with over the last 5 years and I totally understand her need for revenge. Although a hilarious read it is also a story of a second chance at love, of taking a leap of faith. The secondary characters were an absolute hoot and it was great to catch up with Will and Mallory. Reconnecting at the rehearsal dinner Parker still maintains his innocence and he still has feelings for Perky. Unfortunately Perky’s head is set on revenge but her body and heart are still drawn to Parker. Which will win out head or heart? I fell hard and fast for Parker, he ticked all my boxes and was totally swoon worthy.   This is a gem of a book and in my humble opinion Ms.Kent has another winner on her hands.

A few twists and turns and a whole lot of sincere sweetness and vulnerability. And a lot of cringe-worthy second guessing by the main character. All in all a great read.

Five years ago Perky's life was a mess with compromising pictures released of her. Now Parker is back still claiming his innocence. Can he be believed? Can the chemistry be off the charts more between these two! Loved this book and laughed out loud so many times!!

Honestly, I keep asking myself why in the world I waited to read a book by Julia Kent. This one is my 2nd, and it might even be better than the first one! The number of times I stopped to post an update on Goodreads as I was reading because I wanted to remember a line or something that happened was silly. Usually I only update my Goodreads status when I've stopped reading the book for a while because I'm having to go do something else. But one night while I was reading in bed, I kept disturbing my dogs to reach over and grab my phone to update with another hilarious example from the book. This book was laugh out loud from beginning to end. Even the sexy steamy scenes had funny bits, making me want my own Parker! The characters are hilarious, and the connection between our couple is perfect. I honestly don't have any issues I can think of with the book. It was just all good. In fact I would have sat and read from the very first page to the last page in one sitting if I didn't have to do life things like eat, sleep, go to work, celebrate my stepmom's birthday, babysit my niece and nephew, etc. Now, here are a few of the things I had to stop and make a status update on Goodreads because they made me laugh so hard. There was a reference to Dolores Umbrage from Harry Potter when describing Parker's mom, and that came from Perky's parents! Mallory, who we met in book 1, Fluffy, has a thing about how tacos are supposed to be eaten. And when someone did something she didn't like, she said that "he didn't respect the taco". To that one of the group said it sounded like a complaint after a one stand with a date from Tinder. The sex toy factory worker parts were hilarious. And then, there is Raul who works at the coffee shop with Perky. He gets some of the best lines. I also now have learned about a brown starfish, and I might be traumatized for life. LOL!!! Once again at the end, like in the first book, we got an epilogue, or stinger as the author calls it, letting us get ready for how the next book will start. While these are all standalones, the characters are all parts of the stories, and you will want to read all of them, in any order, but just read them all!

Julia Kent did it again. I loved this story, Perky is so funny and no-nonsense. I love that her best friend Mallory and Fiona are in the story from the first book. I can't wait to read the third book. I thing to remember is don't read it at work if you need to be quiet, I was laughing out loud so many times in the book. I would highly recommend this book and all of her books are great.

Perky is a hilariously addictive thrill ride of the heart. Just when you think you have things figured out, here comes another twist in our lovely story that throws things into disarray. I savored every minute of watching these characters come to terms with their real feelings while being a helping hand and open heart for each other. Nothing is as powerful or as beautiful as a true friend. However, in the end, the only person who can truly pick out the solemn truth about our circumstances is our own heart. As we grapple with our feelings and how to live with them, we must remember to see the world around us through our heart. No matter how painful the truth is to see sometimes, it is our own only saving grace. Perky has never truly forgotten or given up on her past. She won’t say his name outright, but her heart whispers throughout each day for the one she longs for with every fiber of her being. No matter the horrible circumstances that tore them apart nothing is truly irrevocable when it comes to the inner workings of the heart. Their bond is one that you don’t find often let alone in one good lifetime, so when Fate throws them together, Perky is left reeling. She must remain true to her heart, but what if it has always betrayed her? What if it lives within with him which would explain why she has felt so empty and lost for the past five years. Can she move on in order to erase the paralyzing pain and emptiness that constantly surrounds her, or will she find that giving in to her heart’s desires is her only saving grace? I was truly amazed and hypnotized by the incredible connection that Perky and Parker have even five horrible years later. The heart know what it wants whether we choose to listen to it or ignore its every prompting. There is nothing more breathtaking then watching two soulmates and best friends find each other and reach for the love they so desperate need and want. This story ripped my heart out and yet left me with a deafening hope that I was not able to walk away unchanged. These two will always live within my heart as a incontrovertible example of how love and the heart will always lead us to where we need to be if we will only hand the reigns over. Julie Kent has done it again! She has created an incredible story that will delight and entertain and teach so much if we will only listen and feel. We can only live life once, so why not live it to the fullest which is why Perky is such a wonderful story. What we find within these pages is the strength and the courage to live life the way it was meant to be lived with hope, love, and faith. This is an unspeakable and stunning gift that will never get old or fade into the sands of time. It will remain in the forefront of your heart and soul every day as long as we breath the air around us. That is a legacy that we can only hope for!

4.5 stars Perky is an entertaining read with quirky characters that make you laugh! The banter in this book was outrageous at times which made it a real fun story to read! Perky aka Persephone’s past comes back to town and needless to say she melts in his presence! You can literally feel the chemistry between her and Parker! Can he redeem himself though and what is it about small spaces for those two!! Lol im serious!! You have to read it for yourself to understand what I mean!! I especially loved Perky’s friends, they were a laugh a minute! A great story to read, it will definitely perk you right up!

Julia Kent has outdone herself with Perky! If you're looking for the ultimate laughs, debacle and romance - look no further. Perky and Parker have history and chemistry, but misunderstandings and stubbornness are difficult obstacles to get past. I tend to forget with each book, how well and truly I appreciate the writers blatant lack of filter, it makes for the most entertaining read! Absolutely adored Perky and I still have a smile on my face just thinking about her story.

I have been waiting for Persephone or Perky's story since I read the first book Fluffy and met this wonderful group of gals. (Yes I want to know each friend in depth but Perky calls out to me.) Perky and her boyfriend did something so many other folks have been guilty of doing, they took a naughty photo of themselves back when they were dating. The photo got out, let's say part of the photo got out ...way out all over the net and it was the end of Perky and Palmer 5 years ago. Fast forward to Will and Mal's Wedding prep and things get interesting to say the least. We get to see more literally of this fun couple and get to know more of this group of girls and the wedding party too. This second chance romance is not only fun it is quirky and also touches on some issues that are well important to many of us in the world today.

Parker and Perky.... Two people that probably couldn't be more different or more perfect for each other. The protesting activist and the DA who was assigned to prosecute her. It's like a crazy version of Romeo and Juliet. Their relationship should never have worked but the more glimpses into their past and interactions they had, the more I was convinced that there was nothing that could stand in the way of these two. Obviously, this book is hilarious. JK never fails to deliver on the hilarity. But this book also hit me in the feels. A lot!! My heart broke for Parker and Persephone but I loved how they were able to come back together and rebuild. Second chances are my absolute favorite and this one is amazing!!!

I've been anxiously waiting for this book since I read Fluffy, and it doesn't disappoint. Perky is over the top, absolutely hilarious, and totally swoon-worthy. Parker and Persephone are lovable, both separate and together, and the story is lighthearted and fun. Once again, the secondary characters are just as much fun as our romantic couple, and we get tons of witty banter between this group. This one is everything I want in a romantic comedy and then some, and I can't wait to see what's next for the crazy bunch of friends.

Julia Kent is another author who has the ability to make me both laugh and cry simultaneously. My sides hurt from laughing so hard at this book, but where it had the greatest impact on me was in the bigger, deeper emotions. Perky (Persephone) and Parker’s second chance is a spinning emotional roller-coaster ride filled with everything from crack-pot harebrained ideas to uncomfortable truths. And it’s all topped off with more innuendo than you can shake a stick at. When our leading couple finally make peace with the past, you can feel the universe sigh – it’s that precious. The lead in to Feisty makes me just a little ravenous to get my hands on it. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.

‘Revenge’ is a dish best served... Perky is the second in a new series of (inter-connected) standalones by Julia Kent. First came Fluffy and all that was Mallory and Will in their hugely entertaining story. If you haven’t had the privilege, do yourself a favor and read it first, even though it’s not necessary, but your missing out, plus it does kinda lead into this one. Anyway, back to Perky. This is Mallory’s best friend, Persephone a.k.a Perky’s story. We met Perky in Fluffy, and she was cool and interesting. Maybe a little wild? Here we get the backstory of why she came back home five years ago. Her then-boyfriend, Parker took a picture of her in a compromising position, and even though she agreed to it, she didn’t okay him posting all over the internet. Needless to say, she and Parker were very much NOT an item after that. Parker denied culpability and kept on denying for five long years until the meetup and Mal and Will’s wedding rehearsal. Parker tries once more to apologize and Perky is having none of it, all she can think about is having her revenge on him. And it wouldn’t be hard work. The man is the Da Vinci’s ‘David’ of U.S Congressmen. He’s hot, sexy and still makes her lust for him. Perky’s problem, even though she hates him, she’s still totally in love with him too. But, revenge, whether served hot or cold, is never sweet in the end and while getting close, then repeatedly pushing him away, Perky finally hits rock bottom. She’s surrounded by good friends, a loving family. Parker just has his mom and an ex-girlfriend turned journalist who follows his every move and tries to dictate his protocol. But, if Parker didn’t do it, and Perky sure didn’t, who is the real culprit that has caused them, two tempestuous lovers, to be separated for five years? And is it too late for them to make things right? This was a funny, somewhat angsty and teeth-clenching, sweet, awesome story. A slow-burning, second chance/ near enemies to lovers tale of twisted lies and machinations behind the scenes. The build-up to the final chapters was fast-paced and well thought out. I truly enjoyed every moment of this book and now I’m left waiting for Feisty’s story.

Oh, this is fun story! Years after a naked photo of her is circulated and turned into an awful meme, Perky comes face to face with the man who took the photo - her ex, who is now a Congressman. Perky and Parker have this electric chemistry whenever they're around each other. There's obviously still feelings there, but despite this, Perky is focused on getting revenge for the photo, even though Parker is adamant he didn't do it. This was a really fun read, great characters, funny moments (and some truly awkward ones)! I'm excited to read Feisty next!

Perky 5⭐️ Amazingly, fun read, my favorite so far. One discretionary lapse, changes the lives of those closest, and mayhem ensues. Julia Kent’s signature humor, snark and laugh out loud idioms are abundant in this newest book. There is steam, romance and HEA. Another top read, add this to your “top read” list.

4.5 stars for this second chance romance. Perky aka Persephone is infamously known for a horribly invasive meme. One she can't forgive her ex-boyfriend for releasing that photo into the world. But what if he didn't? What if you devise a plan to exact revenge on said ex? What if you end up falling in love (or realizing you never really stopped) all over again? This book is witty, sassy, funny, and has great female bonding and a sexy ex that you just can't help rooting for...as long as he is as innocent as he proclaims. Things get very messy, but in the end - it all works out and you've had a wildly entertaining and delightful read. I voluntarily requested and read an advance reader copy.

Revenge shouldn't be this adorable. Julia Kent takes an awkward situation and finds humor and heart. Perky takes a look at the bright side of a darkly, embarrassing situation. One bad choice, five years ago has come back to haunt Perky and she blames her ex, Parker. Careers may have changed, hearts have obviously been broken, but the attraction is still there. Can a bad decision and an embarrassing meme, be the second chance these two have been waiting for? There's always a smile waiting to be found in a Julia Kent romance.

Funny, crazy characters, laugh out loud moments make this a great book. I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to Perky.
