A wonderful Caribbean-influenced musical by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. You can't see the fluid staging of Graciela Daniele on this disc, but the music almost makes up for it.

this is a great show, and the CD will give you the whole story in itself

''Once on this Island,'' is the most wonderful show I've ever had the oppurtunity of playing in. I was cast as Daniel, the the spring of my Junior year in high School, and since then have played the title role in Meredith Wilson's, ''The Music Man,'' and Tevye, in ''Fiddler on the Roof,'' to name a few. I have yet to be in or see as wonderful a show as, ''Once on this Island!''

This year-2008- my high school performed this musical for the first time. Now mind you, no one has EVER heard of this musical before or ANYTHING! Well i purchased the CD when I knew i was in the musical and lemme just say HOW WONDERFUL the music is and how uplifting and motivating it is-the music and the musical itself! When we performed this show EVERYONE was sooo amazed on how it turned out and that it was NOTHING what they thought it was going to be!!! :-) So if it weren't for the music and the AWESOME choreography we had, it wouldn't have been a success!

My son attends University Liggett School in Grosse Point MI. He played the role of Ton Ton Julian in the play and I was so overwhelmed at the whole cast likeness to the CD. The play was over a month ago and I still listen to the CD every chance I get. The music is so wonderful it makes you laugh, cry and definately sing along.

I was in ''Once on this Island'' in my sophomore year of high school, which was five years ago. I still sing the songs from this musical every single day - no joke. It is such a beautiful story, and the songs truly tell the story. I give this musical ten stars out of five. I have yet to see or hear a musical that can compare to ''Once on this Island''.

we put this show on at my high school, and it was awsome. we had a great cast and the songs were great. its been over a year and to this day we still go around sining the songs and reciting lines. it wsa one of the best shows we've ever done.

This is a wonderful recording of an underappreciated show. The recording is nearly complete (lacking only one reprise), so you can get the flavor of the entire show. The story is powerful, and the music is upbeat, with a distinctive Caribbean flair. Aherns and Flaherty excel at capturing the island rhythms, and communicating the tragic yet uplifting tale. I find the Broadway cast recording more accurate and therefore superior to the London cast recording - though the latter is also worth having in your collection. I HIGHLY recommend this recording!

Once On This Island is a wonderful musical to not only watch but perform in. I recently played the role of Agwe in my high school's production of it, and had the best theatre experience ever with it. The music, the setting, the costumes-it all blew me away. The show was amazing and one of the few that I would enjoy performing over and over again. Anyone who has not seen this show should see it immediately-it's worth it.

Once On This Island is one of the greatest musicals ever! My school is performing it for our spring musical and you would think after listening to the music and dancing for 6 hours a day you'd get tired of it, but you don't! As soon as I get home from practice I put the cd on and sing and dance. And when I'm online I am looking up stuff about the musical constantly. It's a musical for all different ages, also. And it has a lot of depth and meaning to it.

''Once On This Island'' is an impressive and great show. I am currently am in a production of this musical, and am the part of Agwe. The songs in the show are, as the title reflects, very carribean, but with reflections of Musical Theater (see- Pray), R&B/Soul/Gospel (see- Mama Will Provide), and Pop (see- The Human Heart). I recomend this show to any and all lovers of musical theater.

I was just in a camp production of this show ( it was modified, but I'm sure the real one is as good) and I was Agwe. I love(d)that part and the musical, because it was sad happy, funny, and dramatic at the same time, a whirl of emotion.

Once on this Island what a wonderful musical. This Pasted Spring I audtioned for a part at a local theatre and I was casted as Ti moune. I listened to the CD every day but sadly it never went on because the theatre couldn't afford to pay for the royalties.I still listen to the CD daily and hope and pray that pretty soon there will be audtions held for it in the Baltimore area.

A better play than this? There is not one! This past Spring I was cast as Mama Euralie in this play. I bought the CD and listen to it 24/7- literally. I would get in trouble for having my discman in school listening to it. The songs are catchy and awesome and there is great dancing. All around this show should win every Tony Award!

When I was cast as a chorus member in Once On This Island, I was overjoyed. The musical was great, and tons of fun. During the production, we found laughter, sadness, and most importantly, love. I found this show my favorite in all the musicals in my past.
