Loved this story of sisters, both gobsmacked by life's surprises, yet both finding reasons to move on. Very real but also funny, poignant, hopefully and of course, romantic. One of her best!

This booked slayed me, but in a wonderful way. The writing is superb. It's emotional, yes, but also some humor sprinkled in. It's a wonderful, wonderful book. One of her best, and that's saying a lot.

And this is why I started reading her books! Very funny and great story lines. Because I did not like her last book at all, I almost did not purchase this book. I am so glad I took a chance and purchased it.

I have read all if Kristan Higgans books, some i liked, some i loved and some i did not like st all. This book fell between like and love. I had a difficult time with Nathan's family and his ex-wife. I also had difficulty remembering who was who with so many characters. Having said that, I think this is a wonderful, enjoyable read. I felt Kate's pain at losing her husband and I laughed at her jazz hands to turn on lights. I read this book in one day and am looking forward to reading the authors next book.

Not the standard romance. Its no spoiler that this book is about 2 grieving sisters. Its showed the good, bad, ugly and funny. I love a character with a good sense of humor. It was very well done! As the grieving began to take a back seat, each of the romances started. Loved this book.

A set of sisters are both going through some changes in their lives and for the first time they are finding solace in each other. Ainsley and Kate may have grown up in the same home, but sharing a dad and two different mothers, they had unique childhoods and finally as adults they can find common ground and help each other through their own tragedies.
I loved how Ainsley and Kate told their own stories and they wove back and forth. I love me a dual narrative! I loved that it didn't take long for the girls lives to be upended and then to find solace in each other so the majority of the story could be them helping each other move forward.

On Second Thought is pure Kristan Higgins. This story is of two sisters who deal with loss and love made me laugh and cry. In many ways it made me think about the relationship I had with my younger sister. We were six years apart and sort of close as children but became best friends as adults. The two sisters in the story, Kate and Ainsley, were there for each other as they dealt with loss, pain, grief, new loves, and unexpected events. Ms. Higgins wrote a story that reflects family dynamics which many readers can relate to.
I highly recommend On Second Thought to all readers. I have read every book Kristan Higgins has written and love how she draws the reader into the story. She is a talented writer and story teller, able to bring humor, tears, and sexy into her stories and make it realistic. Higgins makes me laugh and cry when I read her books and that’s a good thing. I am sad whenever I finish one of her stories as I have to wait a while for her next book and see what magic and genius she creates.

An excellent read! This story is loosely connected to If You Only Knew since both use the same small town setting, Cambridge-on-Hudson, outside Manhattan. Like the first book, it was told in first-person alternating points of view chapter-by-chapter switching between KATE, the central character, or AINSLEY, her half-sister. In the first book this was off-putting. In this book, I was familiar with that style.
Kate O'Leary, a successful, single professional photographer was not looking for love when she unexpectedly met and married Nathan Coburn at the age of 39. In the first chapter, (after only 96 days of marriage,) Nathan died accidentally when he slipped and fell against a kitchen counter while attending a party hosted by Ainsley and her boyfriend, Eric. Ainsley, had her own shock. Eric, her boyfriend of 11 years, dumped her after Nathan's death.
This was a richly layered family drama that went beyond a traditional romance to explore love among family, siblings, friends, community, etc. Both Kate and Ainsley learned to heal and open themselves to love despite their loses. I loved following their journey.

Another winner! Love all of Kristan's books. The stories she tells elicit a full range of emotion and this one is no exception. I highly recommend this book.

I loved the book! This is my first read by Kristan Higgins. It was somewhat predictable but still entertaining. My husband passed away very unexpectedly 3 years ago so Kate's journey was very relatable. As far as how Nathan's family reacted didn't surprise me. I am sure we all know families that would have been just like that. Glad to see his mother came around in the end. Absolutely cracked up laughing when they were in Eric's house and he came home with his friend. Totally made the book worth reading.

ON SECOND THOUGHT by Kristan Higgins
This is a wonderful novel about two sisters and their relationships. Kate is the older step-sister and Ainsley is several years her junior. As youngsters and young adults, they had a semi-satisfying relationship, but a tragedy in Kate’s middle age and a broken relationship for Ainsley brings to two sisters together.
Kristan writes beautiful heart-wrenching stories. She is able to weave sub-plots together so smoothly, it appears effortless (and I am certain it is NOT). I have noticed a change in her writing lately, and although I have been a fan for several years, her books seem to just get better.
PS. Kristan, The Best Man is still one of my flavorites!!!!
