This book is certainly short and simple. It is one of a collection of books written by Irish authors for adults with low reading levels. The collection is a wonderful project that provides literacy stepping stones for adults who want to read about real life and not be condescended to. The other review I've seen here is very correct in that there isn't as much 'meat' as one might expect, but that is very much in tune with the purpose of the book. I found it funny and enjoyable, and certainly think it is part of a positive movement in literacy.

Not a Star is unfortunately not a star. I was disappointed in this book. It was very short, not a whole lot of character development and not really funny. I am currently reading Juliet, Naked also by Nick Hornby. It has been a little slow at the beginning, but holds more promise than Not a Star. In my opinion, the best book that Nick Hornby has written is A Long Way Down. It is unusual and funny. In fact, it is on my 10 best books of all times list.
